dryad Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 I'm looking for a site similar to cc.com that covers New England, and specifically the Boston area. I want to find out more about the climbing scene in that area. I know about NEice.com, but I'm not an ice climber. Any first hand info would be great too. Thank you! Quote
ClimbingGirl33 Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Ahhhhhhh Beantown, my old stompin' grounds. Actually there is a pretty big network on Rockclimbing.com out there - at least in season. Off season the easiest way to meet people is to head to one of the gyms . . . I also have a lot of climbing connections back in Beantown so PM me and I can make an introduction ;-) B Quote
Double_E Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 no first-hand info, but i have known a lot of dedicated climbers who were from New England I climbed Glacier Peak with a couple dudes from NH actually. a high school buddy of mine went to college in Maine. he was always talking about all the sweet climbing he was doing up there. plenty of both rock and ice. .... but if you don't like ice climbing, you'd better learn to like it if you're moving there .... from what i hear it's some of the best in the lower 48!! and the skiing sucks, so what else ya gonna do in the winter? (BTW, i've never ice climbed, but would probably take it up if I moved there.) Quote
dryad Posted January 17, 2005 Author Posted January 17, 2005 Thanks everyone! Another question: Does the Appalachian Mountain Club get as much ridicule as the Mounties do here? Quote
Ade Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 No. I think everyone just ignores it. None of my friends back there have ever mentioned it. Quote
PaulB Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Does the Appalachian Mountain Club get as much ridicule as the Mounties do here? I don't think so. My impression is that the AMC is mostly made up of hikers and backpackers. If you want a good look at the New England climbing scene, get a copy of the DVD "Uncommon Ground". Quote
