Gaper_Jeffy Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 To steal a quote from someone else (I forget who): "When I grow up I want to be TOMSKI!" Quote
cman Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 you gotta love it when people are out skiing just to say they were out skiing rather than actually getting some fun turns in. i am sure the conditions are awesome down at muir right now for all you yearround NW skiers. Quote

It was. Twelve months, baby! Quote
cman Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 how far did you have to walk to get those turns? and how many feet below that spot does the snow die out? Quote
Gaper_Jeffy Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 (edited) Nice photo Cracked! That deserves a: Edited September 8, 2004 by Gaper_Jeffy Quote
cracked Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 4700 vertical feet of hiking, 2800 vertical feet of skiing. Why are you so skeptical? The biggest descent of the season I did on July 4. I've had fantastic August and September turns. And pow starts in November. October is the only lean month, and when you're skiing 11/12 months already, why not make it 12 and have something to brag about? Quote
philfort Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Oh, c'mon... October isn't always lean: 10/26/2001 Quote
cracked Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Hey Gaper_Jeffy, so that you fully understand the implications of my photo, I have added a bit of text: Quote
AJScott Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I have a 1 month streak, and because I had such a seeeeaaak time skiing dem sickie freshiez up at muir...I am planning on trying to keep it going, seems like something fun to do. will see about 25 years worth! Quote
swaterfall Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Plus skiing at this time of year allows you to post mutliple versions of a picture of yourself skiing in shorts. Quote

Gaper_Jeffy Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 More FRESHIEZ!!! in forecast!!! A SLOW MOVING AND RATHER WET FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL DRAG THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. UNSETTLED WEATHER WILL CONTINUE EARLY NEXT WEEK The weather lately so freakin rocks! Quote
snoboy Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Heavy snowfall warning for the Peace District of BC... too bad it's a day's drive, and flat. Quote
AlpineK Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 There's a time and a place for everything. If you want to ski in August, September, and Rocktober you should get a plane ticket to the southern hemisphere. I like the time off from skiing. It gives you time for other fun stuff, and it makes you appreciate the true freshiez when they get here. Quote
iain Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Exactly. I sometimes wonder how much those kids like running gates endlessly all summer up at Timberline. I'd be so sick of skiing. The time off makes November really exciting and fun. Enjoy the sun and summer weather, there's only so much of it left this year! Quote
swaterfall Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 For AlpineK and iain. Just because you ski at some point during the month doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the sun at some other point during that same month. Do it all!!! Quote
skykilo Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 (edited) That's right. I spent two days doing fun, moderate alpine rock climbs this weekend. Then doing something a little more cardio and carving some creamy corn on Monday was as sweet as it could ever be. It's ALL good... Edited September 8, 2004 by skykilo Quote
cman Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 isn't anyone going to spray about how many months that have in a row? that was the original topic here. you can ski whenever you want but if you are trying to ski every month of the year for years on end you are definitely hiking far to ski crap at some point just so can you do what? spray about it, which i think is a weak reason. Cman, you have a very valid point however no one I know maintains a streak just for the sake of being able to maintain a streak; rather they do so because it's enjoyable. Skiing when the snow is miserable is still quite fun and it's much better then not skiing at all. Enjoyment is subjective: one man's curse is another man's freishiez dream :-) Quote
