cracked Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 In my time as a sport climber (ugh!), I have NEVER seen anyone brush an entire route before they get off it. Maybe it's a Washington thing. Quote
pope Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 something like 20 people climbing there last afternoon not a single wanker even carried a tooth bruch to clean holds. Out of 20 sport climbers, what's the chance one of them could even recognize a tooth brush? Quote
chirp Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 "...the pungent aroma of urine wafted about the chalk and dried urine stained rock in front of me. I was determined to make upward progress, so I gritted my teeth and scouted about for some rugosities. Upon finding suitable purchase, I began to move quickly upward through the stench..." Quote

Distel32 Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 yeah just give them a little brush over while you're being lowered Quote
Distel32 Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 clean em up, holds get so cacked and nasty if they aren't brushed Quote

ashw_justin Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 clean em up, holds get so cacked and nasty if they aren't brushed Agreed, the best way to keep a route brushed would be for climbers to brush on descent. I imagine this is only really a concern for very difficult sport routes, where chalk is used religiously and you simply can't send without having a clean route. Oh and bouldering I guess. Quote
Distel32 Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 bob and I clipped bolts today, then brushed while being lowered Quote
chirp Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 ...too much work, if your clipping bolts, you deserve to have to suffer through "others" old chalk. Really thats the only sporting option aside from "pre-chalking grades". 5.13c PC4. Scrubbing actual routes seems silly and superflous. Boulder problems I can definitely see, but routes? Cmon, just be an , <insert gender> and use less chalk. [disgust emoticon]disg.gif[/disgust emoticon] Quote
Distel32 Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 one of the routes we were working on yesterday has a slabby 12- crux. with the humidity so high yesterday you really had to brush the holds if you wanted to pull on them. Quote
glassgowkiss Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 chirp, you are a certified wanker- punter. you are so full of shit your eyes turn brown from turd overload. and if you don't brush off holds you deserve to suffer a big dildo up your ass Quote
Dru Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 one of the routes we were working on yesterday has a slabby 12- crux. with the humidity so high yesterday you really had to brush the holds if you wanted to pull on them. 5.12- and you can't pull. you are weak. if it was 14d maybe but fat punters can climb 12-. I always hated the Gallery for that very reason. On a realistic note, yeah it makes perfect sense in a busy and popular area to be as courteous as possible in cleaning up after yourself. I think the issue goes beyond routes but is indicative of everyones social responsibility regarding a shared resource. ... Quote
Off_White Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 On a more serious note, where can I go to get certified as a wanker? It would seem there must be some sort of online course I could sign up for somewhere on this board. Quote
chirp Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 OW, this is the best online resource for wanker testing and certification...and it is work safe!! . Wanker Test TIP: It takes a steady mouse hand!! Clean your ball first if you're not using an optical mouse. Quote
glassbonghits Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Dru you talk shit about as well as senile grandma at a bingo match. You do not even qualify as wanker, only wank stain. Keep trying. Fat boy can climb 12-, but not you. Is it just the sore ass from anal adventures or are you too skinny to climb 12- ? Quote
glassgowkiss Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 reasons 2 brush: 1.keeps it nice for the next person (popular crag or not) 2.keeps the visual impact down (chalk stains running down from holds after the rain) 3 gives you something to do on your way down 4.chicks dig guys with brushes same people who don't brush at the crags leave unfushed turd in your toilet and piss in your shower. they usually live in a trailer park, drive elcamino still wear mullets, watch jerry springer.... same mentalty at least... carry on redneck trash... lancegranite Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 (edited) Oh great white chalky, scrubber of crimps.... We are not worthy !!! I thought of you today... When I climbed Triassiac Sands in 105 degeree tempatures. For the record we both came home and passed out... my head still hurts. Edited August 9, 2004 by lancegranite Quote
Szyjakowski Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 definitely not worthy. TS...that is one killer climb and at 105deg F , jeezeus man... sounds like climbing season is almost upon hot vegas. and that above list should be ammended to include: 5- keeps your teeth and gums happy. Quote
Drederek Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Chalk is aid. Excessive chalk is not. It is a misguided attempt to simulate GU FA conditions. Vigorous brushing can enhance the holds. Chipping on a miniature scale. My point is shut up and climb. Of course I am here so I guess I'm a Neil Young fan too. Quote
Distel32 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 brushing with a toothbrush is not chipping on a miniature scale. Quote
chirp Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 brushing with a toothbrush is not chipping on a miniature scale. With these babies it is! Quote
Szyjakowski Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 brushing with a toothbrush is not chipping on a miniature scale. do you use the extra soft variety or hard bristle? Quote
