scot'teryx Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 While in the icicle today I got to watch this guy climb "Doin the Dishes 5.11D" at 8 mile rock. It is an awfully thin climb, and Kramar says, "Many try this technical tweaker, but few suceed" Whenever at 8 mile I always wished to see someone climb it, so it was like.......cool and stuff. Quote

What the hell this is the ultimate gaper TR... I watched someone TR an 11d!! Quote
Peter_Puget Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Dru wait 'till you read mine. Besides I have been psyched lots of times after watching someone "send" a route. Quote
Figger_Eight Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I think that was THE definitive gaper TR. I watched someone climb a route, I took a picture of that complete stranger, then posted it on the internet. This post just set the standard by which all others shall be judged. Quote
Dru Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 So Ok...Is unknown TR guy pulling on the rope in the picture? His hand is right on the rope! Discuss at depth. Quote
b-rock Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I enjoy watching others send routes that I cannot. I learn and take inspiration. Quote

Granted, but would you post an informationless third person trip report with a picture of an anonymous person? Lame, dude. Greg W P.S. I hear Scot'Mart likes Earth, Wind, & Fire Quote
Peter_Puget Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Probably wouldnt post Doin' Dishes but unless your strokin for particular guy it doesn't matter who the climber is now does it? I'll even admit to getting psyched looking at a pic in Climbing or Rock & Ice. Quote

Looks like his left hand to me -very important distinction. beta calls for thin sloper for the right hand, rope for the left - blow the sequence and you look like a gaper. Quote
iain Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 careful dudes, it's probably someone on this site in the pic. but then again there is no CH-47 or cellphone in the picture so probably not. Quote

Peter_Puget Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Ok I'll admit it reason I am defending the pic is it's me Quote
Greg_W Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Actually, the reason he is grabbing the rope is because he just heard his belayer say, "Doood, you're the hand!" Greg W Quote
erik Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 another question along drul's line of questioning...why does he have a rack on his harness??? is he top roping practicing placing gear on an unprotectable slab??? Quote

I can hear your mocking tone, Erik. This is a very important skill to learn on toprope. Much like climbing at Marymoor in a helmet and backpack. Greg W Whatever happened to speedmetal? Quote

Peter_Puget Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 It is best to always practice with a rack that way it won't be a pain when you're on the sharp end. You guys must all be pink pointers! Quote

Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Is that actually a rack on his harness? The Doctor thought the man was just wearing a rather garish pair of shorts. Anyway, slab climbing is, as they say, "gay." DFA and his peeps demand the steeps! Quote
Winter Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Oh brother ... dissin' sport climbers is snobby but slab climbing on granite is "gay." Come on!! I think that guy spent at least four wekends trying to TR that slab. Quote
