Ever since they shut down the river-bend campground I've been lost.

 

Anyone have good suggestions on where to camp- hopefully where you can keep an eye on your car?

I don't think the Chief campground is officially open yet so you can stay there for free - walk in only.

 

you can drive up the Stawamus road and camp wherever's convenient.

 

if you sleep in your vehicle you can stay pretty much anywhere you want.

 

keep your eye on your car from where? the climbs?

I parked my van in Smoke Bluffs parkinglot a few times last year, and never had any hassle. It's quiet, not dusty (like the road) and close in.

 

But I have been told since then not to do that. What gives?

Yeah, people were car-camping there this past weekend as well.

Apparently no-one's getting hassled there (yet).

I didn't get hassled over at the Smoke Bluffs parking lot at all this last summer. IMO there are much nicer places to stay up some of the dirt roads heading east. The only nice thing about SB parking lot is if you want to socalize and meet up with partners it is a good place, otherwise it sort of sucks, you can hear the traffic from 99, trash, pavement, no fire.

me and my lady used to bivi at the tiny skate park, by the place with the showers...we just parked the car in the lit lot, and walked on over to a little grassy soft area beyond the skate park...very quite, conveinent, and safe feeling...get creative!

i spent many nights in my car in the smoke bluffs lot. i felt safer having other people around me. the one time i slept by the rec center i felt a little exposed to hooligans.

makes sense... i felt real safe with my gal...she went to franklin and shit , and i like to sleep next to my ice axe sometimes as well...they can fuckin bring it! heres a quote for the day: "i don't fuckin' wrestle chicks, i straight beat bitches up" -Coral mtv just kills me sometimes

I think BP has the right advice ... get creative.

 

There is no replacement for the river site. Any public suggestion of "yeah go to this place..." will probably end up with that place getting overcrowded and shut down too, like the Smoke Bluff parking lot last summer.

 

If there is a "No Overnight Parking" sign then don't be surprised if you get booted out in the middle of the night.

camping next to the water out past the train tracks can be really nice, but i wouldn't do that one alone. drunken hooligans everywhere!
