Pete, you're a right-wing shill.

I work in ennvironmental protection and regulation, 5 years at US EPA Region IV in CWA NPDES Enforcement, currently with US Army Corp of Engineers Regulatory Office (404 Wetlands issues/permitting & Sec 10 work in navigable waterways,). To posture as if Bush has done some great service to the environment is absurd even for you. We could get into a long debate about the whole credits system, the history of the CAA, and the intention of credits / why credits came to be in the first place, but I'd rather do actual work on the environment than argue with you about it. bigdrink.gif

It's been posted plenty of times before, but IT'S SO GOOD:

RESUME: GEORGE W. BUSH

The White House, USA

PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:

I ran for congress and lost.

I produced a Hollywood slasher B movie.

I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas; company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock.

I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money.

Biggest move: Traded Sammy Sosa to the Chicago White Sox.

With my father's help (and his name) was elected Governor of Texas.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

I changed pollution laws for power and oil companies and made Texas the most polluted state in the Union.

I replaced Los Angeles with Houston as the most smog-ridden city in America.

I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas government to the tune of billions in borrowed money.

I set the record for most executions by any Governor in American history.

I became President of the United States of America after losing the popular vote by over 500,000 votes, with the help of my father's appointments to the Supreme Court.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:

I attacked two countries.

I spent the surplus and bankrupted the treasury.

I shattered the record for biggest annual deficit in history.

I set the economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.

I set the all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market.

I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.

I am the first president in US history to enter office with a criminal record.

In the first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history.

After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over the worst security failure in US history.

I set the record for more campaign fundraising trips than any other president in US history.

In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.

I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any president in US history.

I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any president in US history.

I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.

I presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have.

I cut healthcare benefits for war veterans.

I set the all-time record for the most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.

I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.

Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The 'poorest' multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice has a Chevron oil tanker named after her).

I am the first president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community.

I created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.

I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any president in US history.

I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the human rights commission.

I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the elections monitoring board.

I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight of any presidential administration in US history.

I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant.

I withdrew from the World Court of Law.

I refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.

I am the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 US elections).

I am the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.

My biggest lifetime campaign contributor, who is also one of my best friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).

I, with a policy of "disengagement," created the most hostile Israeli-Palestine relations in at least 30 years.

I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

I am the first US president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the US than their immediate neighbor, North Korea.

I failed to fulfill my pledge to get Osama Bin Laden "dead or alive."

I failed to capture the anthrax killer who tried to murder the leaders of our country at the United States Capitol building. After 18 months, I have no leads and zero suspects.

In the 18 months following the 9/11 attacks, I have successfully prevented any public investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States.

I removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history.

In a little over two years, I created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided the US has ever been since the civil war.

I entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

RECORDS AND REFERENCES:

I have at least one conviction for drunk driving in Maine (Texas driving record has been erased and is not available).

I was AWOL from National Guard and deserted the military during a time of war.

I refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use.

All records of my tenure as Governor of Texas have been spirited away to my father's library, sealed in secrecy and are unavailable for public view.

All records of any SEC investigations into my insider trading or bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

All minutes of meetings for any public corporation I served on the board are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

Any records or minutes from meetings I (or my VP) attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

For personal references please speak to my daddy or uncle James Baker.

Hey PP - from the drivel of that last post it's obvious you know nothing about the issue. The Bush Admin is the worst for environmental issues we've ever had. You might try engaging your brain instead of spewing the party line all the time. I'm with you Will. bigdrink.gif

Ah, you mean Economics certificate.

I remember the days of GT... the sophomore-level weeder courses... zero partial credit on exam problems... TBS...

Exactly, we didn't have "minor" per-se, but most schools do and it only confuses people to try to explain how you could essentially minor by getting a certif, but it wasn't required. I took something like 22 credits of Econ.

Fuckin E-Mag and DiffEqs baby! Super weedout classes. Every math TA spoke about 3 words of english and with horrible accents. Guy to girl ratio of 7:1. You could smell the Varsity restaurant from campus. Junior's Grill! The North Ave bum-toll bridge! Steam whistle for class changes. Creepy ass third street tunnel...never knew what you'd find in there. Walking up the hill everyday and that stupid ass Mickey Mouse clock on the Skiles Bldg. I was back on campus about 5 months ago...scary how it's changed.

I was thinking about this yesterday when I heard this stunning new.

Isn't the economic growth rate based on the same quarter's growth of the previous year? I know that's what most major corporations base their sales growth on. Anyone want to make a guess on what the GDP growth rate was last year? Hmmm? How about the year before that?

Here's what I found on 4th quarter:

2001 GDP growth -1.0% (recession)

2002 GDP growth +0.7%

2003 GDP growth +5.6%

I only went to community college, but I think I could accurately say the growth has only been 5.3% over the last THREE years. This may infact be a case of my man GW shooting himself in the foot, DOH!

Credentials don't mean squat Pete...take Mr. Shrub for example, he's got dick for credentials and he's the Prez the_finger.gif And my hoops team can beat your hoops team moon.gifthe_finger.gifwazzup.gif

I gave you stats from an unbiased source re: the election. And I do believe that my EXPERIENCE as an environmental engineer in the regulatory field has bearing on my ability to assess the value of an administration's environmental policy. College chestbeating was an offtopic ramble/spray against cracked.

I think O'Reilly might be coming on soon, you better go turn on the tele. Oh yeah, Rupert Murdoch called and asked what was keeping you....said to tell you it's time for you to get back to slobbering on his sack. Buh Bye now shillboy wave.gif

Whew all that hot air must feel nice up in AK...I can here it now "turn my way Will..."

Yeah Pete, I can "here" it too: "Oh Will, we beg of you, please lay your infinite wisdom upon us, so that we might see the light" smirk.gif

Trask, three words: pot kettle black.

Mr. E,

It's amazing how those 400w HPS lights simulate the sun. Add the right greenery and it feels like a tropical island...Jamaica. We had right at 4hrs sun today. Amazing sunset from my office window at 2:45pm.

Will, we've got twice the daylight here in Seattle and it still gets me down. I don't know how you guys survive the winter in Fairbanks. This afternoon at about 3 pm, a ray of sunshine came through the clouds and I just stood there and stared at it like junkie getting a fix.

I put a high pressure sodium light in my greenhouse to supplement the natural light for my orchids. I sometimes go out there and pretend I'm in the tropics. It's 70 degrees in there with 60% humidity and everything green. It helps.

Catbird,

You know it's getting to you when the day you're most looking forward to is Dec 22nd. It's marked prominently on my calendar. The upside is, the sun is always so low in the sky that when it is daylight, the light is that sweet golden "photographers light" that most folks only get during the first and last hour of the day. And with all the ice crystals in the air you get some cool atmospheric phenomena like the 21 degree halos around the sun...which combined with a sunset make for some nice views from my desk. thumbs_up.gif

Even though the sun is in the sky for only four hours in Fairbanks, I'll bet you get to see it more than we do here in Seattle. Yeah, it's light for eight hours, but it's a bluish-grey light.

Plants need two colors of light to grow and flower. Blue light is supposed to be involved in growth, whereas orange-red light promotes flowering. In considering what kind of light to use in my greenhouse to supplement the natural light, I figured I needed more orange, so I picked sodium vapor. It's kind of depressing light by itself, but when mixed with the bluish light of a cloudy day it's kind of pleasant to be out there.

Well, a mix of metal halides for growth and hps for flowering works well. If heat and/or ballast noise are a concern you can get 48" fluorescent tubes that are full spectrum for about $12 each and have blue/red in one source. I'm not referring to the "plant growth" bulbs which are usually really pricey and put out less light, but rather the phillips or GE plain old "full spectrum". Of couse it would take a bank of about 6 or 8 of those tubes to put out the same light as a 400w. Another way is to use a bank of fluorescents with alternating bluish and reddish bulbs, ex: warm white(redder) and daylight or cool white (bluer). What the manufacturers call a "daylight" bulb is not even close to real daylight...their bulbs are around 6500k...the photographic std for "daylight" i.e. how films are rated, the light temp for lightboxes, is 5000k.

Now that's thread drift.
