Bill O'Reilly - America's "Pinhead"

Joe Lolli

December 10, 2003

I watched Bill O'Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor” lie to his viewers last night over what the Clinton "Assault Weapons Ban" (AWB) says. Mr. O'Reilly claimed that the public supports the AWB because it “keeps your neighbors from owning bazookas and machineguns in their homes”. But those type weapons have been illegal for almost 3/4 of a century. And the AWB has nothing to do that that. The Clinton AWB only makes guns that "LOOK" like military assault weapons illegal and has had no impact on preventing or reducing crime in the ten years of its existence.

Anyway, here's what I sent to O'Reilly:

Hey Pinhead,

The phony "assault weapons ban" is not about bazookas and machineguns... those things have been illegal since 1934. A bazooka is a rocket launcher. A machine gun is a battle weapon that fires numerous shots with one pull of the trigger. Both have been illegal for normal unlicensed citizens to own for almost 70 years.

What the 1994 Clinton AWB is about is banning rifles that merely LOOK like military weapons but function just like any other normal semi-automatic hunting rifle, i.e. firing just one shot with each pull of the trigger. In Switzerland, they actually REQUIRE the head of every household to own and maintain a REAL military-style fully automatic battle rifle. Bill, it’s been ten years since the ban was implemented... so can you show me the stats that where the AWB has reduced any crimes? You can't find any stats because there aren't any. The banning of these assault weapons has made NO DIFFERENCE in assaults, murders or any other violent crimes.

What's really needed here is a redefinition of terms. Remember the Korean shopkeepers defending their homes and property in East L.A. during the Rodney King riots? The only homes and businesses that were left standing were the ones where their owners stood guard holding their very intimidating looking "homeland defense" weapons, like AR-15s and police style Riot Shotguns.("assault weapons" to you pinheads... or "property and life insurance" weapons for those fending off the looters and vandals that would have otherwise destroyed everything these people created.) The real victims of this anti-gun law were all the shopkeepers and homeowners that DIDN'T have a homeland defense weapon during the riots and were prevented from buying one because the People's Republic of California requires a ten day waiting period before they would be allowed to take their new weapon home with them. That was the real gun crime in L.A. during the riots.

So Bill, the next time you want to have GOA's Larry Pratt on your show, why not try actually listening to what he has to say instead of simply pushing your "Howard Dean is flip-flopping" agenda.

Besides, nobody cares! Here’s a hint - Howard Dean is a politician! Just like Bush or Clinton before him, Dean is going to tell folks what he thinks they want to hear. In 1992 Dean was running for Governor in a state where honest law abiding adult citizens are allowed to carry a firearm CONCEALED on their person, anywhere in the state WITH NO GOVERNMENT SANCTION!

So, there you are, sitting in the in same anti-gun city that has just prosecuted an honest citizen for using a firearm to shoot a burglar in within the confines of his baby's bedroom in his own home and you are using a Dean campaign pledge made in the nation's most gun friendly state eleven years later as a hammer in front of a national audience that would actually prefer that the AWB expire.

Bill, get a clue!

Scrambler,

Here is a sincere thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif for your post. Bill ORilley is a pinhead. I liked him when he first hit the airwaves, and the guy has the makings of a brain, but his condesending style, tone, and mannerism quickly began grating on my sensabilities. I especially hate the way he posts text on the TV screen as he reads it verbatum... as if his audience is a group of kindergarteners. I rarely watch his show.

....but I will happily defend him here against the likes of his biggest detractor, Al Franken. Now that guy is the dumbest *@#% on the planet.

What's this world coming to when cc.com is accusing Bill O'Reilly of being too liberal? I thought the guy was a right winger. Al Franken was going after him from the left in his new book, and now they are going after him from the right.

O'Reilly leans a bit to the right, but he's actually pretty moderate. His problem, other than being an egotistical blowhard, is that he seems reluctant to check his "facts". Either that or he just makes shit up and takes it as fact. I haven't figured it out yet.

I completely agree, neither of those two want to understand or investigate issues, just shout and hear themselves interrupt the guests they have invited on the show.

The New Yorker (I think, could have been Harpers or The Atlantic) published an excerpt of a transcript between O'Reilly and a guest, including some of the footage that didn't appear on the air. This was probably six months ago and O'Reilly basically threatened the guy...like "I'm going to kick your ass you filthy little..." kind of threatened (that's not a quote, just an approximation, someone with a New Yorker subscription might be able to post the actual verbage).

Typical O'Reilly: "You're wrong counselor. I know you're wrong and you know you're wrong. End of story."

What's really funny is that he used to be a reporter for Inside Edition...the fucking tabloid TV show yelrotflmao.gif. Pretty much destroys his credibility in my book.

Hannity is the same way. He's like the ex-football jock who's now trying to fool everyone into thinking he's a politcal brain...please! He's a right wing sychophant party-line, ass kisser. Typical Hannity "Good evening General Chumpwad, sir. Always nice to have you on the show my friend"

That Shepherd Smith character kills me, the "G Block". Whateva you fuckin whitebread tool. OG rollin in his Brooks Bros suits. rolleyes.gif

I swear, the times I get around a TV (don't own one myself) FoxNews is the best comedy show on. Much better than South Park mmmkay!

I woke up in a bizarre parallel universe a couple of mornings ago. It looks just like the normal one but something's different. In this parallel universe, we see headlines like this: Bill Clinton Urges U.S. to Support Bush .

"Whatever our politics at this hour, we all should want them and their commander in chief to know that we're praying for them and pulling for them, for their success in their mission, for their safety, for as little loss of life as possible."

--quote from Bill Clinton at a fund-raising performance of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, March 25, 2003

Of course, there's the Bill O'Reilly comment concerning weapons. In the end I expect O'Reilly will eat his words.

"(I)f the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it's clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation, and I will not trust the Bush administration again."

---spoken by Bush's biggest TV booster Bill O'Reilly, the Fox News guy, on March 18 on ABC's Good Morning America

Point is well taken. But seriously, of the shit that O'Reilly may deservedly eat, he is not likely to choose his own words from the menu! Even he has better taste than that.
