montdo Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Hi all- Im new to the area - does anyone know when chair peak feezes up or has anyone been over that way to check the conditions? Thanks! Quote
klenke Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Aint ready. Mid winter: good. Last Thursday. {Note that this thread should be in the Alpine Lakes Forum. Southern Cascades is too far south of Chair.} Quote
slothrop Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Looked pretty rocky on Sunday, but there was a discontinuous line of white near the NE ridge up to the summit block. I didn't get any pictures. Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 It needs snow and some freeze/thaw cycles. There's been plenty of the latter, but little of the former. Quote

catbirdseat Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Mark your calendars. Ask your boss for the day off. The 3rd falls on a Wednesday. Quote
minx Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 it's pretty cold up there this morning and if the weather stays like this the conditions should be good very soon. Quote

i doubt that....that route needs alot more snow on it b4 it would be in prime conditions. and anyways, freezing level is going way up.... Quote
specialed Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Werd. In general, I don't think water ice in the mountains is too good right now. Not enough freeze / thaw. Somehwere in which there's an independant source of moisture is good. Quote

erik-  i should've posted a pic perhaps but there was fair bit of snow that dumped at that elevation over the last couple days. it may not be in prime condition but it would be climbable.  you're right though, if the freezing level is going up Quote

erik Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 soon to me implies within the next week or so.....  for reading comprehension and such... soon  so depending on the weather soon can me many things...  i dunno if you have climbed the winter routes on chair, but i have found variable conditions during different points in thw winter. with it typically being more lean and less desirable as a climb due to the fact that there was not enough snow to help the route shape up.  and currently with the amount of snow fall and the predicted snowfall and the predicted freezing levels and what not i would say chair will not be in for some time unless the current trend changes significantly!  Quote
minx Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 nice ass, but keep your pants up  sorry guess my sense of time isn't as hurried as yours  and i should've checked the weather forecast. just basing my comments on what i've seen in the last couple of days. the conditions were a little lean in early december last year alright, hope they're better this year!  Quote
erik Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 um i base my definition of soon just as the dictionary does. i linked it in my last post for you. so i would not say i view it hurrdily, but realisticly. Â Â Quote
minx Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 hey scott.. grow the fuck up a little. erik and i seem to have this discourse handled w/o your nonsense. Quote

scott_harpell Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 yeah sorry i quoted the wrong person. Â good to see you the other day hommes. i missed your smile Quote
minx Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 (edited) alright already! i was wrong. i should've looked at the forecast! i was just basing my opinion on what i saw this w/e. and the dictionary doesn't set forth specifics for "soon" for me soon means sometime before the first of the year. mainly b/c that's as SOON as i'd have time to climb it. Â i'm bloody sorry erik. i've said i was wrong like 3 times now. shoot boy what do you want? Â and scott, go yourself Edited November 12, 2003 by minx Quote
