gnibmilc Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 i just picked up a near mint vinyl copy of SRV's Texas Flood on my way back to work from the dentist for 2.98$US! the tube amplifier driven sound of that might be good, i'm not sure. TUBES! Quote
mattp Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Yeah, THE TUBES was a great band. Captain Qualude Quote
Toast Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Hey Mattp, is that Ampzilla, Son of Ampzilla, or Grandson? If I had any spare cash I'd be all over this. Quote

DFA? oh and not tooo spendy. also i do run through my comp. thanks in advance. Â Not too sure you're going to find a new tube receiver but if you want to go without the radio section both Creek and Musical Fidelity both make good, affordable tube integrated amps for modest power needs. You can also post to the newsgroups listed under rec.audio Quote
mattp Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 It is Ampzilla. Father, not son. It is a great amp, but I'm not kidding about how you have to be a little careful with it. Stand too close and you'll probably go sterile. Quote

Bitching amp, though. Hey, what about the Unison Research Unico? That's got the ever popular tubed input/solid state output combo, and all the reviewers seem to love that. Someone in the SeaWA area might carry that. Atoll and Cairn seem popular with tube lovers too, despite being solid state (and also very modestly powered); they are both supposed to be good bets in the ca. $1k price range. Quote
