jrb Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Planning on heading up to Steinbok this weekend to try the Northeast Buttress. Anyone have any beta and the route (do we need pins?) or words on the access? Quote
Dru Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 (edited) you need pins and the gates are both locked and there is no one in camp anymore to open them for ya. good luck. and are ya going for the flavelle/howe or edwards/spagnut? Edited August 6, 2003 by Dru Quote

layton Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 (edited) I thought you guys said the gate was pulled? I'd like to go back there soon, any current beta? Edited August 13, 2003 by michael_layton Quote
Dru Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 CAMP is pulled. GATES in place and no one in camp to unlock em for ya why don't you call cattermole and post the results here o ex-gimped one given recent fire i cant imagine they too keen to hand it out for a while. Quote
layton Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 I'll try n' call em tomorrow. What;s the story on the road going up to Bardean and Vienesse etc... are they really going to re-grade it so a 2wd car can get up there? I'd really like to know, cuz I'd like to extend the life of my truck (the road takes a good decade off the life of your truck). Any ideas when it'll be 2wd? Thanks, Mike Quote
Dru Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 you could call canfor and ask. except they closed the chehalis office so you have to call woss. Quote
layton Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Dude, what's "woss" and what's the #? I'll call tomorrow. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 I miss BS'ing with that old fart in the camp. When I was last through there, he was about to shut down and was pretty upset. He said it was because of NAFTA. Anyways, if you do get through the gate, the approach can be somewhat tedious. I can tell you that the wack'in sucks! So two options might help. 1. From the last switchback, B-line straight for nearest talus above. 2. From the end of the last switchback, head straight over the woods, then up. That is my experience, someone else (Dru) might know of a secret trail. The blueberries should be getting ripe (they delayed us a half-hour last year). Also got stung by wasps in the leg. Quote
lummox Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Dru said: the locks are inside bell cans I think. hard to get at the lock. you could always call cattermole and ask to borrow a key? bullshit linear thinking. hinges are not in cans. sometimes the hinge pins aint even capped from below so you can just lift up. then theres the utility of a $30 pipe cutter. layton Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 yeah, i've done the schwack already and the 1st 6p of Springbok(rain). It blows. ANYONE GOT #'s for Catermorale (sp?) and Canadian Forest Products. The numbers in McClanes guide aren't working. Quote
dberdinka Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Has the original Flavelle/Howe line ever been repeated? (I thought K2 was filmed on the east face Dru) Does anyone have any first or second or third (I'll even take fourth) hand info on any attempts or successes on the buttress? Thanks! Dru Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 the fixed pin stations on upper buttress date from the filming. why would they film on the east face? Quote
Dru Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 the rusted fixed pin stations on the upper buttress found by edwards/spagnut. sure weren't placed by flavelle/howe. Quote
specialed Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Edwards / Spag pretty burl from what I understand. Consecutive pitches of 10d with no good pro and belays that won't hold more than body weight. Quote
