Roger Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Has anyone been up to cloud cap lately? Thinking about a trip this weekend, and wondering about the status of the road. And don't give me any of that shitty beta like you gave Desey, or... or... I'll be really really mad! Quote
b-rock Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Cloud Cap road was gated at the ski area last Sunday. Didn't hit consistant snow on the Tilly Jane trail until about the shelter. Don't know when they plan to open the gate, but I bet the road is almost snow free. Quote
Winter Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 I just put in a quick call to the Hood River Ranger District. They said another month. Snow pack at 4000' ... no plans to plow. Quote
b-rock Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Hmmm, the road was gated at 4K with no snow in site... Ah well, takes about as long to hike up Tilly Jane as it does to drive the road anyways. Quote
Winter Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 just goes to show they couldn't find their ass hole unless it was strapped to a cut tree. Quote
Roger Posted May 15, 2003 Author Posted May 15, 2003 no kidding - I thought about calling the ranger district, but figured it would probably be a waste of time. I'd rather post the question here and get a real answer from someone who has actually been there recently, instead of some usfs employee reading a computer printout from a month ago. Quote
sheskis Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 I called the Forest Service today in HR. It was a waste of time. They haven't sent anyone to look at the road in weeks. They said they probably wouldn't open the first gate until the middle of June. Then they'll wait until the road dries out before opening the upper gate. Quote
Thrashador Posted May 24, 2003 Posted May 24, 2003 What a whinefest! The USFS is too easy a target. Pick on someone your own size. btw, there's lots of turns to be had in the Sisters. Less people too. Seek and ye shall find. Just don't rely on the government too much; it's a bad habit. Quote
b-rock Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 i can verify that the forest service said it was closed still prior to last weekend. for what that's worth. Quote
Roger Posted June 3, 2003 Author Posted June 3, 2003 Thrashador said: Just don't rely on the government too much; it's a bad habit. that was pretty much my point. cool avatar pic. Quote
gslater Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 I called the Hood River ranger station a few days ago to ask about this. They said the road wouldn't open until "mid-June" to give it a chance to dry out. Doesn't seem to be an issue of too much snow by any means. Quote
gapertimmy Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 letting roads dry out is a good thing imho, otherwise the WT drives too fast and washboard ruts the shit out of the road, like that freakin road to pole creek, i hate washboards Quote
flatnose Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 Has anybody been up the Tilly Jane trail lately to approach the east side. I'm planning on doing Cooper spur this weekend and want to know if there's any purpose in dragging my board up there for the descent. Quote
kurthicks Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 it sounds like it's open judging from the people that i talked to or saw yesterday while up on Hood. 2 guys did sunshine on thursday and i saw another guy wandering around on Snow Dome yesterday afternoon. I'd have to assume that they drove to Tilly Jane... who knows though? Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 We did the Cooper Spur route yesterday. Road is open and in good condition all the way to Cloud Cap. The water taps have not been turned on yet. There are just patches of snow in the campground. On the route, we did not encounter much snow for the first 2,000 ft. Quote
