There has been some speculation that Bush was wired for his debate with Kerry. See link here. Question is, does it matter?
  6. that's funny. thanks j_b
  7. Yeah, it basically ignores human nature. It's as if they formulated these plans with all the thought of a game of Risk : "So, if I put my base here that means that I own this region and all it's resources are at my disposal."
  8. So, I've got a bunch a of iTune files that I'd like to cut up and remix. What sort of software is necessary? Any recs?
  9. It's not so opaque why we're in this war. Please visit the website of Project for a New American Century. Since the late '90's this group of neo-cons has been pushing for war with Iraq, ostensibly to eliminate the threat of WMD's. However, this group has held that American security depends on access to Middle East oil. Towards that end, the group has advocated establishing a set of military bases in the Middle East. The founding members of PNAC include Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, and Cheney. Jeb Bush signed on by 1998. Invading Iraq and establishing bases in the middle east have long been part of this group's plan for world security. Here's a outside link on PNAC here
  10. Gentlemen, its clear we're losing sight of priorities. MORMON CHICKS ARE HOT!! REPRESSIVE RELIGIOUS CULTURES BREED KINK!
  11. They both have shitty traffic SLC has Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood > Boise w/ Black Cliffs Boise has excellent whitewater SLC has better skiiing Alcohol laws are really weird in SLC, but you can work around them if you live there. Boise has a better art/music scene (Built to Spill!) SLC has more 'culture': opera, theatre, etc. SLC has Mark Twight. SLC has Grivel, Black Diamond, and a thousand other gear manufacturers, so you're more likely to find gear deals. Idaho will offer more solitude, wilderness, wolves and grizzlys, Utah will offer crowds, the vacationing elite, and the Beautiful People. I'm an Idaho guy, and I always dream of going back.
  12. The Stone Gardens program has always had great staff for their kids programs- very supportive, very friendly. I watched members of their staff work with some pretty challenged kids- autism, etc- and have excellent results. I'm not as familiar with the VW program, but it always is a strong presence on the competitive circuit, and sends lots of kids to national comps. I know there are lots of parents & instructors (and prolly some kids) on this board who can give more advice.
  13. Yeah, I did, as I believed that we were going in to prevent genocide. Since then, I was challenged by some posts by the late G-rung to look into the causes and execution of that war- in retrospect, our participation in that war was less of an effort to prevent the loss of civilian life than it was an effort to secure future access to Baltic oil. Still, what is on our plate NOW is how to deal with the shit-hole we've created in Iraq. Bush is dim and stubborn- unable to recognize that his policies aren't working, unwilling to try alternative strategies. Speaking of which, what do you think of his post-war plan? I believe that he was honestly surprised that we weren't whole-heartedly embraced after the fall of Saddam, and has been unable to formulate a new approach since then.
  14. also, if you later would like to expand your distribution into seattle, I humbly offer my fridge as a starting place. Thanks for taking care of us, TG, your brew is good shit!
  15. Harpell: Ok, you're right. Good job. savor that. It still doesn't justify the war in the first place, and definitely won't sway my vote.
  16. I think Selkirk's got it right with his 'swim in Lake Washington' prescription. I believe the mechanism of adaption is to increase the capillary volume in the extremities- I know I've read this somewhere, but I can't find any references. Anyway, the theory is that if you chill your extremities, your body will adapt by increasing the circulation of blood to them. This is best served by chilling your body, but not freezing it (which would cause damage to the same tissues you're trying to help). Hence, months of cold showers make a good alpinist. By the time you're a good alpinist, you'll have already taken months of cold showers (see the posts of Layton, et al). I believe this to be true, but I can't find any supporting documentation. It may turn out I dreamt this in a psychedelic haze- don't blame me if doesn't work.
