  1. Well yeah I've got an agenda but I don't think Jim does. Consider some numbers: - Logging from our national forests contributes only 3% of the nationa's timber supply. - The FS loses more than $1 billion per year on timber sales. - These economic #'s don't account for the externalized costs of ecological degradation. So how can we justify spending $1 billion/year of taxpayer money to support 3% of the national market? It doesn't add up.
  2. whew times must be tough when ya gotta turn to cc.com to get some lovin.
  3. Joel, post a TR when you get backand good luck!
  4. Scott - That photo is from one of the timber sales we are currently litigating. This photo is a good example of why the FS screws things up. Cut the big ones, leave the little ones, call it good for forest health. Once they yard and deck those trees, you'll see even more piles of small fuel all over the landscape. Your disproving your own points.
  5. i guess that means layton is out of luck again i don't think prozac dq's layton.
  6. Well that comment right there shows you don't know a whole lot about a burned landscape.
  7. Joel, is that you? Thought you guys were going last weekend. Did you postpone due to weather or am I confused?
  8. I've litiagated at least 6 or 7 post-fire salvage sales, and I basically agree with Jim. A lot of people don't recognize that burned forests have a pretty important role to play in the ecosystem. Cavity nesting species like woodpeckers thrive and rely on burned areas for forage and nesting habitat. We have been logging the hell out of these areas, and it can cause an imbalance in the ecosystem. Burned forsts aren't useless - they're actually pretty dam important. The argument that you log a burned forest to prevent future fires is called the "reburn theory" and its bs. The FS claims fires burn longer if there is a lot of large woody debris, but its the slash and small fuels left behind after a salvage operation that really poses the fire risk.
  9. yeah hmmmm ... kinda casts doubt on the validity of the "free market" huh? where's mtngoat when you need a good libertarian to kick around?

  15. huh... i don't know if it is true or not, but I heard that they amount of energy needed to digest that crap exceeds the amount provided by eating it. I doubt that, i think there are quite a few calories in a cup-o-noodles. On a semi-related note, what do you all do for butter in the BC? a bunch of the camp foods i bring all call for butter in the recipe. bring butter.

  22. Hey hey, I'm glad to report we just got a great opinion from the Court of Appeals on the land trade case at Cooper Spur. Its just one step, but its a big one in the direction of preserving Mt. Hood from poor development ideas. Here's the opinion from the Court of Appeals. Its not he most fascinating read, but its a great decision.
