The M14 carbine is (or at least was at the time I was in) used as a sniper rifle in the Army. For home protection I agree that the M14 is way too big and bulky. Pump action 12 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip is where its at.

Bukake party in Camp 4? [insert wanking gremlin here]

I'm not really sure where he gets it. I understand that you can get some from Feathered Friends though.
-
Its also illegal to be in the left lane on the autbahn and impeding traffic behind you. I think there would be a lot less road rage on our highways if granny wouldn't get in the left lane doing 55 and refuse to move over to let others pass.

I have a friend who is making bivvy sacks out of Epic. He made me one that is modeled after the Bibler bipod bivy--sort of a one-man tent that weighs in at a scant 1 lb 7 ozs including the pole and stakes. Crams up about the size of a large pair of socks. (If anyone wants to order a custom-made bivvy out of epic let me know). I set it up and hosed it down in my back yard for about 5 minutes or so. Water beaded and rolled off the fabric no problem. The interior was dry as a bone. Oh, and I had not seam sealed it. Epic is the shit for lightweight personal shelters that I have tested. I imagine using it fora tent would be just fine with one caveat: the fabric is very thin and therefore pretty fragile.

Ryland to DFA as he pops out of the cake: "is that a half-eaten lifesaver in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

You are correct sir. I know only what you tell me and you told me about two years ago or so that you had never served in any United States military organization. So, STFU.

I can haul people and cargo from Portland.

AlpineK I was pointing out trasks obvious hypocrisy. You Sir may spray ad nauseum. DFA, you got me bro.

Hey Bill-- Its Rob. R-O-B. Mess it up again, you get penalty slack biotch.
-
What branch of service were you in again Trask? Oh thats right, you didn't serve. Well, by your own post you need to STFU, no? And in case you wondered, I have done all three.

Steve-- I worked on a lawsuit involving a fellow who used steel biners to do speed rappells as he had learned in the Army (I might have mentioned this to you before). I highly recommend you NOT use steel. The heat factor will case your harness to fail before the ropes fail. I can go over the details in person if you want.

I think this is redundant. As for killing all felons, I think thats a pretty funny troll. The idea of not giving someone a chance to pay for their mistakes and making a better person of themself pretty much runs counter to the tenets of the democracy our founding fathers had in mind. It also makes us pretty ugly as humans and eliminates the chance that someone can be rehabilitated and contribute to the social framework. Whats better? To kill an innocent man by accident or to rid society of all felons? No one is forced to live in this country. If you don't want to support the social programs we have then move--or change them. I have a story about someone very close to me. Some of you might even know him. He was a pretty fucked up kid, angry in many ways and decided to join the army right out of high school because he wanted to kill someone. He had a shitty attitude and as a result landed his ass in a military stockade where he served a few months for a non-violent offense yet still a felony (federal offense). Whilst in there and not working his ass off at forced labor he had lots of time to think. He decided that he didn't like what he had become and what he had done with his life so he changed. When he got out he finished his enlistment and surprisingly enough received an honorable discharge and was a decorated soldier. He went to school, got a good job, paid beaucoup taxes and even worked on several political campaigns and issues. Aside from the occasional speeding ticket he's been a pretty good chap. Under your system, Greg & Crew, I'd be dead.

Sorry--I should have clarified. WHen joining ropes of EQUAL diameter the EDK is my knot of choice. I agree with Iain and he gets my vote for best mountie

I got in no problem but maybe because I dont know shit. Lets start our own club Bill and call it "mossandchossbutnospeelyei" Pussies. I was skeptical when I saw it was moderated. Now I want nothing to do with it. Or maybe I'll just copy and paste everything here.

NIB Suunto Observer St/St Altimeter Watch - $225
rbw1966 replied to Superman's topic in The Yard Sale
I'm not trying to piss on your cheerios superman (lord knows I dont want a superhero pissed at me) but that website you direct us to has that very same watch listed at $299 Still a good deal but not as good as described. -
I am a big proponent of the EDK. Pretty much idiot proof as long as you dress the knot--and you do that anyway right? Chris Harmston, formerly Quality Control directory at BDEL, debunked that whole microfracture theory a couple years ago. If you can't find it by googling it, try googling rec.climbing. As TG pointed out, the biner isn't going to be falling 60 meters so its a non-issue.
-
This was the method I was referring to above. Its worked every time I used it and has never gotten stuck, but of course YMMV. You just have to exercise a reasonable amount of common sense to keep the biner from getting wedged. Remember, it follows your rap line all the way down. Also, to avoid getting the zip line all clustered by the wind you can leave it wadded in your pocket and feed it out as you rap. Its a PITA though.
-
Another option not mentioned is to buy a 5mm line to use as a zip cord. Then do single rope raps on your lead rope and use the skinny line to pull it. If you dont want to buy another cord, trail the second rope un-belayed or make the second carry it coiled on his/her back.
