But would they do a better job than Bush???

Josh, I've done St Helens 2x on skis in March and April, and there is no terrain anywhere where you really need to be concerned. The slope below Pan Point on Rainier is much more of a hazard than any slope on St Helens. That said, approaching the last couple hundred feet to the crater rim should be done pretty slowly...

It was great to hear two different Dean quotes the same day, just a few days ago when it was crystal clear Kerry was the man of the hour 1 when asked by an interviewer if Dean would be giving up (after yet another loss in a primary) he said (sic) "Not yet, but I want to get Bush out of the White House whatever it takes, and will support the Democratic nominee however possible. IF the nominee needs my enforsement, they've got it. If the nominee needs a running mate, I'll do it. Whatever it takes". 2) later the same day [on Kerry] "As far as I am concerened he's just like Bush. I will not run as his runnning mate, we need to clean up Washington and it won't happen with yet another Washington insider!"

Both avatars and IP addresses can be banned. bobbyperu, I am not sure whats up, but other moderators will see your post here and contact you about your status. (Typically whoever banned you is the person you deal with.) If its just some wierd glitch (I have problems logging in with the upgraded BBS software....) then we'll figure it out with you... Alex

Layton, either hike Palmer to 9200, cross under Steele Cliff as for WyEast and continue traversing to base (good option if returning via SSide) or approach through Medows and up up up on skis, then return via Cooper Spur (yuck)

Whats the beta on the sporto arete just left of Toxic Shock? Is the common way of climbing this route just to start with the lieback on Toxic Shock and then start clipping from off the ledge? Whats the consensus on the rating? Clint says 5.11something, but it seems easier than most Index 11s I've been on.

I think BBQ is 10b by conventional wisdom I've done Gumby back in "the day" and I found it pretty desperate for my sausage fingers I think someone mentioned Moons of Pluto (next to Zonkers) and I always thought that was pretty straight up 10d I have said it before and I'll say it again: Hyperspace - Pressure Chamber! Carnival Crack - SendBot ver2.65 says "10a" I say "yeah right"

I think both Ade and I agreed yesterday during idle conversation that the Spring will also sux with Washington Pass all but inaccessible (except to you Mazama locals, yo!)for Spring weekend trips.

We need an "Average Climber" and "Joe Simpson" reality series on cc.com. Average Climber --------------- 10 randomly selected cascadeclimbers.com avatars (thats like 2 real people yo) vie for the affections of "super alpine buddie", live online. Oh wait, we already have chat. Joe Simpson ---------------- A spin-off of "Joe Millionaire" except there is no million. Not even a thou. Just a rack of cams and more gear than you can stuff into a trick Toyota PU. Still, the (real) women of cascadeclimbers.com all haggle over who gets to go out with the mystery man, debate over whether his rack of cams is really his or just borrowed, and whether they will get rope-gunned up something significant this season.

Josh, in my experience the highway usually has alot more snow on it this time of year, and in years past has been plowed only as far as Silverton on the South side. If there isnt any snow past Big Four and over Barlow Pass (I dont know) then you should be able to get at it from the South, yes. I was really surprised that there was as little snow as there is currently.

We drove the mnt loop hiway this weekend looking to get to some super secret ice projects, and the bridge mentioned on map above has been repaired. There was also no trouble getting past Bedal (no snow on road, and for those who dont know, there is no gate on the mnt loop highway past Bedal, so "closed" is more of an advisory than anything that will really stop you). However, the mnt loop highway is completely washed out about 2 mi past Bedal. good luck!
