OK I'm posting, but only cause I had to come back early from Lil' Wet. Why post when Bonbon, Beck, little Mikey from North Bend, and Eric/k have spray down to an art. Plus Mattp still thinks it's a conspiracy when Gator and I try and hook him up with bad beta... cheers.. (still no Pioneer Ridge Beta... Berdinka? Fortier? Skoog? Beckey?)

Anyone been up Pioneer Ridge? (Not in Winter you watusi rodeo clowns) Tell me about it... (I have a question about a project that the Skoogs probably have already done)

Just got back from week long trip myself. Cascade, Grotto, Haffner, Junkyards all worth checking out. Ice may be thin for the Canadian Rockies, but CC folks will find plenty to do. GR

Ice near leavenworth? or anywhere for that matter?

We're all going to Banff... -
MH Venti-gaiters. What was I thinking? I wear gaiters most days throughout the summer, mostly to keep the snow and mud out. The vent was an interesting idea- too bad they didn't add any gaiters. they were hard to put on and the tension on the snap had them coming undone all too often. I through them in the garbage- wanted to take them back to the store, but figured my blood pressure didn't need me to go ballistic about them any more. Back to OR..

I did what I've been doing the last month or two. Spent the nights guarding Grand Coulee Dam from terrorists. Since I was up all night and the weather was clear, the Leonids were quite spectacular. Looking forward to coming home after two months here. No sign of Banks Lake ice, not nearly cold enough. Just rain today. Get some climbin in for me...g

In response to Courtney's feelings that lat pulls won'r help with pull ups, I've had the opposite experience. For those of us cursed with a paucity of pull up genes, lat pull machines can let you work at "sub pullup" weights. I've never gotten better at pullups by doing sets of 1 or 2, but working with the lat pull machine helped me get to sets of 7-9 pullups. gr

Beck- that's two dates now! we're all a little sceptical.. I vote for the PVI in Rockport since I drove down to Seattle last time.. g

Has anyone done this route? Is it "destined to be a classic" as per Fred, or...

The bushwack isn't that bad (try marble creek instead..) The camp in terror basin is one of my favorites - nice running water, pretty flowers, durable gravel surface, decent views. enjoy.

Nice work. Take any pictures along the way? What does the Chopping Block look like from the East- esp NE ridge? thanks in advance. GR

Someone went into the southern pickets over memorial day weekend - can't wait to see the trip report if you know who these guys are. GR

Road is in good shape. Haven't been on the route, but all of BC was there last weekend.

I did the SW Couloir for the 2nd time this season last Friday. There's actually more snow than there was when the highway first opened. Neither time did I climb with a rope though other parties we saw did use one. I doubt you will find anything to put a screw in. A few nuts, pickets, and a rope for rappeling will do. Both times we descended the arete route. I wouldn't do that again since it's a bit of work (more interesting than the climb) but it 's bettern than kicking stuff down on people climbing the couloir, have fun

Borbony aka BonBon really likes those radios. One almost hit him on Saber ledge as it came flying down the cliff. (another point for the mtnrs) g

DoIgottahaveaame- You can "get out of" a ticket by appearing in front of a Federal Magistrate in Federal Court. Me, I'd rather be spending my time climbing. If you've really got a beef, run for congress. g

Last summer I got rejected from Sloan because the water crossing was too deep. So with the drought in effect I thought I'd check it out. You can't drive the mtn loop from the south, but you can get to the trailhead from Darrington. The last few miles are 4x4 required because of rutted snow, but that will improve within weeks. The trek to the river is nice without the brush and the river is low, low, low. (You can boulder hop the slough that we waded in August and the river looks about a foot deep.) Now who's going with me to check on climbing conditions? g

I e-mailed DOT and they are going to send in avy experts within the next 10 days to assess the highway to see of work can begin. The site to check on their progress is www.wsdot.wa.gov/regions/northcentral/maint/area3/nc2000/ncassessment.htm (maybe the computers wizards can make a link..) Geordie
