there are a couple of passes down there that are pretty steep on the north sides. Glen pass will be pretty scary. the good news is is that the south faces of the passes will be melted out from the sun, and you will have met several hikers that you can tackle it with. I think a 50cm camp corsa and some micro spikes and youll be cruisin. up at timberline lodge there are several slopes in salmon river canyon that you can practice self arrest on, right near the parking lot.

Trip: Mt. Hood - north face right gully Date: 1/2/2013 Trip Report: we climbed that north face right a couple of days ago. approach was deep snow but lots of snowshoe and ski tracks helped out. sorry i walked in the track. the cooper spur stone shelter is dug out, spacy and warm. we traversed in across the north face to avoid postholing up the glacier, not sure if it was easier or not... the snow was steep and deep and the ice was hard. i was glad i brought those BD guide pro gloves. constant spindrift avalanches were extremely not fun. tunnelling out the summit cornice was quite scary. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8500/8346933467_0c2e718a27_c.jpg[/img] Gear Notes: 4 ice screws, simulclimbing and simul-soloing Approach Notes:

this was on a totally different aspect and elevation but the whole upper mountain seemed like it was ready to go. watch out for avalanches up there! [video:youtube]

CLIMBING GEAR STOLEN in West Portland
christophbenells replied to YocumRidge's topic in Lost and Found
i work at next adventure in the tune shop/bargain basement, we have not seen any of this gear in our shop. the buyers usually read through the stolen gear list every morning, and receive emails from the portland police dept. just for the record next adventure would not buy any of the safety rated climbing gear, and we would only offer in store credit for items like the pack, shoes and chalk bag. there really is not much value in it for a thief to bring us that gear. still, we will keep an eye out for you, and call you if we see anyone trying to sell us your gear. -
right around this area on white river we found a glacial tunnel that ran farther than we dared to go...

i was at eliot glacier two weeks ago, and on white river glacier last week climbing. https://nextadventure.net/community/blog/ice-climbing-mt-hoods-glaciers id reccomend white river, much easier to get to.

The Best Ski Benches and Ski Shops in Portland?
christophbenells replied to chris's topic in Oregon Cascades
hey man i think i answered your post on TAY also. i do all the ski tunes here at next adventure, and we can repair whatever you need done. 40$ gets you base grind, stone grind, edges and hot wax. lots of local knowledge, friendly faces and good deals. if youve never been in the bargain basement it is a sight to see. mountain shop and oregon mtn community are also good, and hillcrest has got your race style tunes going. send em in man! also i like your blog dude. -
let me know if you need any help modding out the primes (i assume youre the same jason4 from sb.com?)
