oh I see. When I was there snow covered probably 90% of the walkable terrain in the upper basin. Let us know how it works out.

?? Must have melted out a lot or you were in the wrong spot. When I was there maybe a week and a half ago the snow was maybe 3-6 feet deep in the whole upper basin.- Not the lower Source Lake which I think you might be talking about. Plenty of melting is possible though.

hey there, No big deal. Snow in the upper basin, but doable in approach shoes without ax or crampons for the experienced. If not, bring an ax.

And I agree. Soloing helps you in many ways as a climber. Confidence, speed, ect. It can just as easily save you later as kill you now. Pros and cons...

LCK- I know you mean well, and you might even be right, but I figure, if you feel any doubt whatsoever- change the webbing. I don't like to encourage people who maybe don't know that much about climbing to push webbing as far as they can. I think that could be misinterpreted. I realized just how strong accessory cord was when I forgot a knife and had to cut it on some rock. Oh my gosh! Took three guys and 10 minutes. But still, I like to be conservative.

I tend towards burlier gaitors. But that's just me.

Sorry to hear that this happened as well.

I just skimmed this and saw some weird stuff so decided to post. People travel all the time without pro in on a rope team over glaciers. That is what a self-arrest is for. It isn't neccesarily wrong to not have pro while on a rope team on a glacier. Although pro like pickets would be nice, it isn't always practical to have a constant running belay for miles.

ah. Haven't had that problem. But ya there are better harnesses out there.
