One thing unknown to mankind is why K&D did not release anything like Definition since 1995? I guess it is an austrian thing.

I am looking for the evolutionary explanation why men (in general, of course) cannot tolerate things having their immutable place on a couch while drinking beer?

Why climbing gyms do not have sweedish walls?

Cool. I wish PRG would get the concept too and especially so if it originates in 1907. -
The road is open and the Mazamas successfully had an ACR on the Elliot Glacier (ice) last Saturday. I am recovering after the surgery so could not make it but my friend's comments might be helpful to whoever is heading up that way: "The road going from Cooper Spur all the way up to Cloud Cap was 10 miles of crap. There are steep dips in the road…at least 20 of them and I lost my muffler in one of them! Never found the muffler on the way out so my car is LOUD now…some tweaker must have picked it up and got a hit off it turning it in for scrap metal! The road washed out this past spring and instead of driving along at 30 or 35 mph, it was half that and was in marginal condition". Elliot Glacier 10-03-09

Time will come when even comedians like Jon Stewart and Bill Maher will not be able to offer an explanation as to why we have a BOTTOMLESS FOUNTAIN OF LEGISLATIVE IDIOCY coming out of the Democratic Senate (that we worked so hard to put in place in 2008)! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/01/stewart-destroys-dems-for_n_305948.html

MAN/WOMAN Friendship among Women: A woman didn't come home one night. The next morning she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house. The man called his wife's 10 best friends. None of them knew anything about it. Friendship among Men: A man didn't come home one night. The next morning he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house. The woman called her husband's 10 best friends. Eight confirmed that he had slept over, and two said he was still there.

Bill, do you drive a Dodge RAM 4x4 with a gun rack and an NRA sticker in the window? Does it also have "socialism is for losers" stenciled across the length of the tailgate? Just curious.
-
While we as a country watch idiots with "Obama is a Nazi" signs on TV, ALL the civilized countries in the world are pursuing solar and other alternative energy sources and are about to overtake us in every venue of science and technology. We are meanwhile preoccupied with "socialism". Serves us well, we'll be paying for our own stupidity. Nobody does it to us, not Al Qaeda, not Kim Il-sung, but we, ourselves... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/16/opinion/16friedman.html?_r=1

Priceless as ever: [ultimately, climate change hysteria rests on an unbiblical view of God, mankind, and the environment. Come and hear how the Cornwall Alliance is pushing back--producing ground-breaking studies on Biblical environmentalism, educating pastors and churches across the country, and activating thousands of Christians to rally against the hype through the WeGetIt.org Campaign. Learn why policies to fight alleged man-made global warming will instead cause hundreds of millions of premature deaths throughout this century, and how human liberty, responsibility, and flourishing are the key to a healthier environment] "Even the more radical conservatives in Europe, who tend to emulate American and British conservatism, uphold environmental values and grasp the challenge of climate change. Those leaders cannot understand why their ideological comrades in the United States refuse to acknowledge the gravity of the problem -- and insist that "conservatism" is synonymous with freedom to pollute and ruin": http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2009/09/25/global_warming_conservatives/index.html Yep. And we, in the US, are stuck with the boneheadiest of the boneheads in the Universe!

Pain from metalwork/Pilon fracture
YocumRidge replied to archenemy's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Arch, I know it is hard and it sucks, but sit tight on your butt for a little longer (give it like 4-6 months, you have a type 3 Pilon fracture for gods sake) before being concerned about pain not going away. You are already making a good progress: you are off your pain meds and soon you will climb better than before. For a change, think of the millions of others who are stuck in front of their idiotic TV boxes and would not climb anything ever. BTW, I did not like the comment "the doc basically said he opened up the facia, stuck the pieces he could find back in there, and is hoping for the best". What does it mean the pieces he could find? And how about those he could not? Did he just patch it up to his heart content? DO insist on the several follow-up X-rays and make sure everything is healing how it is supposed to and all the pieces/metalwork are in place. I am trying to be optimistic and perhaps I am not doing a good job at that but I would hate to see you to have the same procedure done twice or thrice when they open up your ankle, break everything down and start from scratch. I was "fortunate" enough to experience that with my wrist and I tell you it was not fun. And the best part is you cannot sue the bastards. And you know what? You better heal right and soon since today I had a real mental block trying to lead and being preoccupied with your type 3 fracture. -
Nice elaborations on the theme! Likewise I did road bike racing and still do but never suspected Gatorade would make all the difference in the world on my overall performance. I guess I do now because the performance sucked. It is not surprising Gatorade is now sold at the fast food places. Never tried Citomax, but Emergency tastes awful to me. I do appreciate its scientific formulation and such but seems like it goes overboard.

Yes, and you get encapsulated into a nice snow/ice crust and things like the Episcopal School Tragedy then happen: http://www.seattlepi.com/archives/1986/8601100290.asp So, the bottom line is to forget the Cotton. This might be not a bad idea if you do not wanna die of hypothermia. While this stuff works fine, Smartwool (wool/poly blend) and Icebreaker came up with a new line of base, mid- and heavyweight layers and bottoms your might also look into. I personally prefer the Smartwool. On the Buckaroo's list, a few things are not mentioned but probably assumed: - Mountaineering dynamic rope (not a rock climbing rope) as a team gear. Usual length is 30-40 meters. - Mountaineering (not a garden) shovel for making a snow cave (one per team). - Snow pro: pickets and alpine draws (and know how to use them) - Two pairs of heavy duty socks (wool/nylon blend) - Headlamp - Sunscreen - Map, compass, altimeter - First-aid kit - Trekking poles - Ultralight pulleys for the crevasse rescue (preferably take a class if you are not going with a guide and read a book: "Glacier Mountaineering: An Illustrated Guide to Glacier Travel and Crevasse rescue" by A. Tyson and M. Clelland, 3rd edition) - Light backpack ~ 50 liters (made of Cordura or alike, if not, then also bring a pack cover) Drink LOTS of water and electrolytes (not beer) and eat well (Freeze-dry food, protein bars and chocolate) one day before the summit. On the summit day - high performance food like Clif Shot blocks, energy gels and supplements. To Buckaroo: why not a Gatorade? Works well for me. Another thing to remember is to pack light. Cut down on every single ounce you possibly can, so choose the gear/food/clothing accordingly.
