  1. What size boots? (older SMC and Salewa 'poons come in multiple sizes)
  2. You might want to post a photo of it - I don't think many folks remember them. I personally thing they are a great screw; they are the easiest screw for me to place with my non-dominant arm.
  3. Be advised the SMCs, while adjustable, came in at least 4 different sizes. They actually climb pretty well on a rigid boot.
  4. yes, jest only. I have no problem with who's pokin' who, as long as they make the world a better place. sickie Humor or not, that use of the word "gay" has become the epitome of low-level gay-bashing. It is seriously demeaning to the gay population. Please be more considerate. (Can you tell I'm fresh out of Diversity Training Class at work?)
  5. A professional guide has to have some kind of credentials, AMGA is just the most common system. If you're in the game long-term, you'll be expected to progress through the cert. ranks, and if you're paying for the training/exams/dues/recerts/first aid cert/etc yourself, it can get quite expensive (five figures). The pay isn't good, as others have mentioned. It can pay the bills for a single in their 20's, but it simply will not cover a mortgage and living expenses for a family of 4, with a bit to set aside for the kids' college and your eventual retirement. Finally, guiding is about sharing your love and enthusiasm for what you do with others, more than it is about actual climbing. If you think your head would explode if you had to spend 3-5 days a week watching Boy Scouts badly belay each other (while you explain how to do it for the upteenth time), then guiding isn't for you. Fortunately, it's not that hard to break into and try it for a couple years, assuming you have a suitable climbing background and a cordial personality.
  6. Check these out. Size 44, but he says they were tight, so maybe they run a touch small? NEice ad
  7. Check out PeterZ's ad for the Salomons. IME upsizing by half a size is just right for cold weather boots (I have 2 pair of these same boots - great for ice and steep snow) $75 is a great price too.
  8. I have a couple U stem cams. Trango #5 (purple see below) size looks in the 1 to 1.5inch range. Also a similarly built Rock Empire (grey) in the 3/4 to 1 inch range. Both are lightly used with perfect action. I have lots of odd & ends of nuts - Tricams, hexes, Rocks, Stoppers, Metolius Curve Nuts, micros, even a single alloy offset HB. PM me if you have specifics in mind.
  9. IIRC Mythos are sized in Euro sizes, printed inside the shoe under your foot. Can you see what's there?
  10. $10 plus $3 for shipping. OK?
  11. Um...size??
  12. size on harness and gloves?
  13. Similar bindings use nylon webbing up there instead of a plastic piece. Webbing is easy to sew. Is there a chance you could use that instead? I'm handy with a sewing machine and have lots of webbing scraps of various weights. PM me if I can help.
  14. I've caught some pretty high factor leader falls on my belay device (that I picked up on the ground under a popular gumbie-thon multipitch route). Not disasters so far.
  15. So is anyone actually interested in these? Or are you all just prattling about what he's trying to do?
  16. Check out this ad: MP classified I can use the orange cam. You get the yellow and we dicker on the red.
  17. In the 1990's, the slings were solid color nylon. Photos to come...
  18. I have an old yellow Metolius TCU. $20. But it's got the original sling - the one without the black stripe - so I'd recommend getting it reslung. On the hardware side, this unit has the smooth cam lobes and the center lobe is the same width as the outer ones. Like I said, old. But never held more than toprope loads in all that time. For $25 I have the same vintage Metolius 4 cam unit. Very, very little use. Like new really, notwithstanding its age.
  19. I have a blue (#5) WC Zero Cam for $30 shipped. Photos available if you're interested. It's in really nice condition. About the same size as a yellow Metolius TCU or maybe a green Alien. SOLD
  20. Try slipping a Dr Sholls insole under the footbed. It'll add underfoot insulation and reduce the extra volume. Worked for me.
  21. Put a pair of Dr Sholls insoles UNDER the stock insole to take up some room. Worked like a charm for me in those boots.
  22. Sold
  23. I have a couple large wiregate Wild Country biners on my harness. A rubber band from the broccoli and some lashing with thick nylon cord and they've been great. Large enough to hang my Quarks off even with a screw or two in there. I've seen too many broken BD clippers to trust them for much.
