  1. Mark, I completely understand what you are saying. I must admit I am guilty of this at times, however I would not do this on a busy weekend/popular climb. If I bring new people with me, its on an off weekend or weekday and on a not so popular area. Here is one thing I'd like to point out: not all young people are the "cell phone generation" or "gym climbers" etc. Obviously I fall in this age group and would like to think those names do no represent me. Secondly, young people are not the only ones with somewhat poor climbing ethics...
  2. Well I'm going to be in the Seattle area, from thursday to sunday and have all day friday free. I would like to get some climbing in either at index or exit 32/38 (which ever has more trad climbs) or snoqualmie pass - like guye peak or the tooth or something. Just want to get out and climb. Send me a pm, I'll check pretty regularly while at work over the next couple days. -Kevin

Van Epps Jeep Trail (#4W302) from its junction with Fortune Creek Jeep Trail (#4W301) to its end at Van Epps Mine.
  9. fuck'em. I climb what I want!
  10. Seems as if that disaster could have be avoided by a little parenting? But I don't want to be to much a armchair QB since i'm not a parent. I have a question, perhaps a dumb one...so these hikers that got stuck on a ledge - how did they get there? One has to imagine if their gear slide away from them they'd be like oh shit, well time to turn around, unless they were rapelling? Ah who knows, it seems, as it was said before, these situations usually have bizarre stories that led these people to trouble.
  11. I'm going to second what OlympicMtnBoy said. When I was talking to a ranger earlier this week, she said all the now closed TH would remain closed until the fire is completely out, which last time I checked was late sept/early oct. So be sure to call a ranger station.
  12. 5K; I stole this from I think Rock and Ice and have used it on two trips, works well. At your house: cook up a pack of brats or sausages, sautee bell peppers onions, etc. Mix with some cheese. Wrap up a couple ( I make 4, and wrap 2 together so I have two ready to go on 1st and second day) burritos and put in tin foil. ThenI put in the extra into a pot with a locking lid and stuff some more tortillas in a bag. Reheat that night. Even my vegetarian climbing partner was jealous.
  13. What a fun day. Zoroastr, looks like you had good timing on the day. As for that slab pitch, I climbed it in my approach shoes and it was just fine. Oh yeah, and props to David for his first gear lead on Prusik!
  14. if only that stupid fire didn't close the TH earlier this week! good getting out.
  15. So I want to get one trip into this area before school begins in late september, and 3 days is pretty much the max time I can take off my job. With that being said, if you had 3 days to spend in the pickets, what route/mtn would you choose? ABout 5.8ish. And yes, those days include approach and getting back. Just looking to find the route with the best views for the limited time and build more stoke for the next time I go back. Thanks for the input. YEA!
  16. mcuh better now. thank you cc mod's.
  17. I was out there once with the sasquatch group - pretty enertaining. Quite a few of them climbed as well. My friend and I scrambled up that tower in the middle of the camping area to drink some beer and before we know it some group of guys from across the camp site wanted to smoke us out. Then later around the campfire we listed to everyone be paranoid about cops as they smoke their blunts or tripping on shrooms.
  18. and banks lake is less than that. same with canada.
  19. Just to follow up, I ordered the montrail ctc's. And I also got the Garmont Vetta Plus in response to my demands - so to speak. Anyway, looks like a great shoe, plus I got it for like $100 brand news. There 50% off plus another $20 from amazon.com. I'll be putting these to the test starting this weekend. I'll let everyone know how they turnout.
  20. haah, rob, thats my bivy sack covered with rain drops.
  21. Just saw this video the other day: MSR Skinny Too Looks pretty interesting. I saw on another site its due in early 2009. I know a lot of people have inside connections, anyone got details? Experiences?
  22. ...you were planning on climbing stuart or something in that area: Yesterday I checked and it wasn't listed in the closed area. But apparently later in the day it was added. The picture taken 6 pm on 6/19. But it did rain steadily through the night so hopefully that helped the fire fighting.

  24. with YOURSELF!!
  25. I swear the forecast worsened from this morning and thursday is my only free day...I'm probably going to try to do something easier incase of rain/wet rock.
