Please don't think that CC.com is the best example of culture out West. Really, its just yahoos getting in internet pissing contests. You have that back in NC?

The second photo of you folks staring at the lenticular is a great shot.

Next time. -
I dont (that isnt my hand) but I always thought "HELL 2PAY" would be a nice addition Do it. The ice looks sweet too. So which state was the ice in?

I have BD Cyborgs and Sabertooths along with size 47 boots (Nepal EVOs). Not a problem at all for me.

[TR] Mt. Hood - Leuthold Couloir - Sled Descent
WageSlave replied to rocky_joe's topic in Oregon Cascades
Nice sledding adventure! Next time haul them up Leuthold's and sled that instead. Did ya get any video of your descent? Fork it over. Hope you liked following my crab-walk across the Reid. I was only half as drunk as it looked. Plus it was the only way to get that crust to hold body weight. -
[TR] Mt. Hood - Leuthold's Couloir 4/18/2009

Yup, those were mine. I didn't see anyone else come my way in the early hours. Ivan, it was way more rewarding and mellow than having anyone else around. -
Trip: Mt. Hood - Leuthold's Couloir Date: 4/18/2009 Trip Report: I wanted to get up in the mountains alone, so up Leuthold's I went this morning. There's a fair bit of wallowing to get to Illumination Saddle and to get across the Reid. I recommend my strategy of less-than-glorious sideways crawling. It seemed like a good plan at the time. Crossed the 'schrund at 5:20 (it's hard to find, but there) and the snow decided to play nice with me. Recent avy debris made for faster cruising. Not much shit was being funneled down toward me. I guess climbing when it's still freezing is a prudent plan. Cruised up to the top of Queen's Chair and got there at 7:10. The ramp up to the summit ridge is covered in rime feathers that like to collapse when you try to step up on them. Crossing over to the summit is pretty mellow, only 100 ft or so of exposed traversing. Sat my ass down in the wind at 8:00 and watched the barbarian hordes come up the south side. I'd feed y'all photos but none of them turned out. Gear Notes: 2 tools (kinda overkill) 'pons Cypress Hill on the headphones Approach Notes: Follow the pack and then confuse them by not going the right way.

Lift up to Timberline Fri night/Sat early AM?
WageSlave replied to WageSlave's topic in Oregon Cascades
Thanks y'all. I got a lift figured. -
My lift fell through and I was wondering if anyone here is driving up to Timberline Fri night or super early Sat am? Got room in your car for one more? I'll hook ya up with some gas money for sure. PM me or gimme a ring a (360) 823-7344

you can climb the reid and top out further left near the queens chair, so don't have to mess w/ the w crater rim - there's plenty of opportunity to get slid going down the back of illuminiation and back up the reid though of course Or on the SS while descending in the sun...

"Probably won't" means slightly less than 50% chance of death. A week ago the report was at considerable above 6k and I saw a ton of natural slides that had triggered in the last 24 hr. The lower 1/2 of the Old Chute and the traverse from the Hogsback, both had avalanched, along with the entire slope of the West Crater Rim. The slides looked to be wind-deposited snow and were all on S or E slopes. Just my 2 cents. I'm not going up there for a reason, but I also have the flu.

Sent you a PM on those.

I'm looking for a pair of liners that aren't beat to shit yet, so I can do the beating. Anyone got a pair or know where I can find some cheap? Intuition liners are far too much for my budget, though I know they're the smarter choice.

Book - Holding Fast: The Untold Story of the Mount

Heavy on the God, light on the reality. BTW: The photos of them approaching the NF have them in full daylight before even descending off the Spur. Bad news. -
South Side and I-Rock Conditions (w/ photos!)
WageSlave replied to WageSlave's topic in Oregon Cascades
We just went up to the hogsback, so no info for you on the PG. I haven't heard anything this year on the conditions of it. -
Went up to the Hogsback for some fun father-son bonding and got a good look at conditions up there. Those 45 mph winds earlier in the week wind-scoured everything and its fast travel now. Some larger and sketchier windslabs are on south and east facing slopes. 1/2 of the old chute ripped in the last day or two. High res versions are in the gallery. Got a good look-see at Illumination Rock and March Madness looks to be in. The bottom pillar is much fatter and not freehanging like it was a month ago. April Insanity looks to be in too, but I didn't get up close and personal with it. Go and get 'em.

Did any of you folks get up on Hood? How shitty are the snow conditions?

It probably classifies your photos as the pr0n that it is so you can't fantasize about climbing and get off on the clock. -
US Outdoor has the Mammut Comets on sale right now too. http://www.usoutdoorstore.com/outlet/mammut-comet-soft-shell-gloves.html

If you search around the left-hand variations you might find a couple of pickets left by yours truly.

Any recommendations for a thinner/less bulky glove for ice? Preferably something that I can still handle gear effectively in. I'm using a pair of last year's BD Ice gloves, which are nice and warm, but I have to pop em off to do much at all. The BD Punishers seem like they might work, anyone have experience with them?
