  1. I wouldn't trust one to hold very much. Body weight maybe or maybe a short fall. You can hammer them into pretty much anything though. Word on the street is that they're one of the few things that works in super iced up cracks. I'd take a couple and fuck around at ground level to see what holds and what doesn't.
  2. I have a pair of the Charmoz too and love them. The only time I've gotten cold in them was going up Mt Hood two weeks ago. Then again they're only 3 season boots. You can climb vertical ice pretty decently in them, and alpine ice is a breeze. I'd recommend them for pretty much any alpine climbing that isn't high altitude or in winter.
  3. So, jlag, those were your skin tracks we saw up there. 4 of us went up two days ago. Got up over the berg on the Hogsback but the gully had a bunch of powder (foot-plus) on top of weak ice and faceted snow. Didn't like it, so we bailed back down. Once the snow consolidates some, I'd say give it shot. Or maybe if you have bigger balls. It was a long snow slog up to there though. If the winds haven't blow our tracks away, there should be a good path up over the hogsback.
  4. I'm heading down to J-Tree from Eugene, OR on Monday the 22nd. If anyone in the area wants a ride down, I'm game. If anyone from this boards is gonna be down there and wants a partner get in touch. I'm heading down there to learn to lead trad properly. Gots me a rack, a rope, some climbing skillz, and more than half a brain. Mmm...warm weather... I know you Northwesterners want to get out of the rain already...
  5. I'm guessing that it would take a giant of a person. I'm 6'3" and 195 and the jacket is big on me. Maybe someone around 6'6" and 220 pounds?
  6. bump
  7. The parka is 2 years old. It has a slight discoloration on the left sleeve (maybe 1/2 an inch across and 1.5 inches long). Other than that its relatively good smelling (for stored gear) and is rip and tear free. I'm selling it cause I lost 40 pounds and now it just doesn't quite fit me. The last time I wore it, I managed to zip both my girlfriend and myself into at the same time. Yeah. Kinda too huge. I love the parka; its warm as hell.
  8. I got an XL Wild Things Belay Parka. I haven't used it much, maybe 10 days or so. Its neon orange, so you don't have to worry about getting separated from your friends when wearing it. I'm asking $100 for it. It retails for $295, so that's a damn good deal.
  9. The tools are long gone.
  10. There is always the Elwa Wall if you want some slightly overhanging bolted sport routes. Some 8 or so routes there.
  11. So I have this bright neon orange super warm belay jacket from Wild Things thats huge on me. After losing 35 pounds, I managed to zip both my girlfriend and myself into it at once, so I need to sell it. It doesn't have any stains on it and doesn't have any funky smells. I have used it on 5 or 6 trips, mostly one day affairs. I'm asking 100 bucks plus shipping for it. I'm located in Valdez, AK, so unless you want to drive up the Al-Can for it or you happen to be in the neighborhood, it'll have to be shipped.
  12. bump!
  13. I've got this week off, if you're still game. Hit me up.
  14. With short axes you tend to bend over a lot and it compresses your diaphragm making it harder to get air into you. Bad news. I use a 75 cm and its short on me. Size 'em out, borrow one from a friend, or rent a few different sizes and see what you like.
  15. If you're in Seattle, I'd hit up Second Ascents and Feathered Friends. The folks that work there are rad and know a lot about boots. They helped me get set up for my last pair of them. If you want plastics, you can usually get REI ex-rentals for $50 bucks. Its a good deal for an average boot.
  16. Wow. Thats gorgeous.
  17. I've got this Quasar Compact sitting around not being used. I'm not going to be doing enough (maybe any) sketch ice leads, so time to get rid of the 3rd tool. I'd like $80 bucks for it, but argue with me if you don't like the price. I bought it from an ex-SAR guy who hadn't ever used it, and I haven't used it either. I sharpened it up some, but thats it.
  18. Email sent too.
  19. I'll buy your Audi when you go through a mid-life crisis and have to own old school muscle cars to feel young again. The wife and house only helps with the muscle cars.
  20. Man, I hear you on that. At least Arc'Terxy jackets fit my long arms without making me look like an inflated whale.
  21. So I'm on the hunt for a pair of soft shell pants for myself, but I'm 6'3" and the whole long leg thing is a pain in the ass. A large tends to be a 35" inseam which is just too short for me. Anyone know of company(s) that have pants that run long or just make them for tall folk?
  22. Hello there folks, I'm searching for some folks to do some ice climbing and various winter mountaineering with. I've just started ice climbing, only doing some top roped stuff, but I'm hoping to get comfortable leading on ice this season. I've done some mountaineering and am comfortable on steep snow and moderate ice. I live in Seattle, but alas, have no vehicle. I have tools, crampons, helmet, more than 1/2 a brain, etc, so hit me up and we can go on some sort of strange and cold adventure this winter. -Colin
  23. We were all like, damn thats some sweet ice they're climbing. And you were probably like, damn thats some hideous orange crap those people are wearing. That route looked beautiful from the ground, and it sounds like it rocked the socks.
  24. Wait, were you there on Sat or Sun, cause someone was climbing the same route as you folks Sunday if it wasn't you. I was across the way top-roping some 30 ft stuff and a couple of us were watching you folks.
  25. I'm with this. You can't drop a munter hitch! Well. Maybe you could, but you'd be so screwed...
