  1. meh. Stock valuation aside, you're pretty quick to declare dead a profitable company -- even the most pessimistic forecasts call for 40-45% growth this year alone, which admittedly is down from last year's 50%. In light of their ridiculous stock price, these numbers are quite modest and obviously highlight the company's ridiculous market valuation -- but 40% growth by itself is nothing to sneeze at, especially when the company has a 50% operating margin. Of course facebook won't last forever, but it is still really premature to start planning their funeral. An overvalued stock does not mean the underlying company is unhealthy, and even assuming the most pessimistic near-term forecasts, it will take FB *years* to become unprofitable. Comparisons of FB to myspace or washington mutual are pretty irrelevant, as are statements that FB is "limping along." Amazon is actually a much better comparison btw -- their market valuation is nearly as retarded, and their profit margin has become PAPER THIN.
  2. At least they didn't have the audacity to climb in tennis shoes. That would be totally unacceptable!

Awesome, sort of like the "final thought" Jerry Springer used to do
  7. that guy on the right is way too fat to be a hipster. And look, he has a brake, too. Pussy. You just know he has a cascade bike club membership card in his back pocket

    locked down spray

Hey, shit gets closed down in spray from time to time. It's not a big deal; even in the old west the sheriff had to clean up from time to time, or black Bart would take over and scare the womenfolk. And can you blame him? We're all a bunch of fucking jackals. That carcass was clean anyway, boys.
  9. I think you guys are really overestimating things if you think facebook will quickly disappear. They aren't losing users, after all, nor are they unprofitable. Stagnant stock will not destroy a company -- just look at Microsoft. Of course eventually Facebook will fade away, replaced by something else -- nothing lasts forever. But I think it's too simplistic to think it's just going to suddenly go away overnight. Especially if they figure out local search and local mobile ads, which is definitely the next big frontier for search in general. God knows they have the data, if they could figure out how to index and use it right. Just because their stock is over-valued doesn't mean that facebook itself is now suddenly doomed. Given that Zuckerberg still has a majority share of stock, actually the stock price doesn't even really matter. Who cares if the shareholders get pissed off, it's not like they can outvote the chief. And FB already took their billions and ran.
  10. who knows. I ask the same thing about AMZN every day, but at least amazon actually has sales growth. If you think FB's P/E to bad, check out their P/S. Ouch! Facebook would have to trade at around $9 to meet the nasdaq average of 20 P/E for tech companies
  11. it seems to me whenever congress investigates something, usually there is a lot of hot air and nothing actually ends up actually happening, especially if it's anybody from wall street involved. Just lots of token admonishments.
  12. Just wanted to get your illustrious prediction on record so I can make fun of you later. Sure thing, I was wrong before. However any time Congress starts to investigate usually outcome is not so good. Yeah, but when has congress EVER really punished an investment firm? And it will take more than this to get rid of FB. Although the situation is obviously FUBAR

  16. I'm not sure how different harnesses are, but my experience has been that ladies outerwear isn't really all that different than mens -- I've bought ladies outdoor clothing because it's often on sale and it seems to fit me just fine, though I usually have to go a size up. On the other hand, I think my body dimensions must be the exact average used by clothing manufacturers, because I can also wear most of my girlfriend's jeans just fine, too. Which seems to really piss her off
  17. I knew a guy in SAR who would roll himself up in a rain fly and crawl under a log with all of his layers on
  18. it also depends where you're going, and what the weather will be like. I've slept on the ground with just a jacket a few times. If it's warm out (and dry), it's not that bad. And if you're just going to be out one night, then you don't really need to that comfortable. A half-sleeping bag and a bivvy sack will get you through just about anything at lower elevations, especially if you only need one night. If you're leaning towards a tent because it's going to be rainy, but your comfort requirements aren't high, think about floorless tents. I've been pretty happy with my BD beta-light tent, even in heavy rain it works pretty well. Pretty lightweight. It's good for longer trips where it's more important to keep things from getting (too) wet. I probably wouldn't bring it on a one-night trip, though, unless i was expecting a lot of weather exposure. But I almost always just bring a bivvy sack and a lightweight sleeping bag. Especially if it's just going to be one night and the weather is expected to be mild. I love opening my eyes every few hours throughout the night and seeing the stars in a different position each time
  19. Good question. I'm kind of surprised Canada hasn't tried to censor offensive websites. For a country that has confiscated foreign newspapers at the border, you'd think net censorship would be par for the course.
  20. True that. But, we've got way better 1st amendment protections. Like, WAY better. So I guess everyone is embarrassing Yeah, Canada now allows everyone to suffer the institution of marriage. Yay, Canada! In Canada, you're probably not allowed to make fun of marriage. Hate speech, you know
