  1. That looks perfect for the bedroom of my rental suite.
  2. Lets see the linoleum pattern
  3. Yes Canadian politics is very boring. We talk about really boring stuff like public policy and important issues.
  4. My underwear is secret too. Except to those in the club. My fitness club, that is.
  5. I think the underwear is "Sacred", not secret.
  6. When I was a boy, I was taught a simple formula for converting imperial to metric: double it, then add 30. So for example 10 degrees celcius is 50F (10*2+30). A case of Molson Canadian beer would be equalivalent to 54 PBRs (12*2+30). So to convert imperial to metric, you would just do the opposite - subtract 30 and divide by two. That puts your fair lass at about 67" tall and 10 pounds, A bit thin for me, but YMMV.
  7. I see "Garmin". Apparently, personalization software is choosing the banner to display... Will deleting my cookies help? That seems to fix everything but the kitchen sink these days.
  8. Next sell your mutual funds and invest in hotdog stands in your local community. STICK IT TO THE MAN WOOOOT!
  9. Anyone still have their money in the big banks? That'll fix 'em
  10. On a side note...the ad banner on this page right now is "Thai Love dot com". WTF OLY?!!
  11. 1. In a credit union, you are the owner, along with all of the other shareholders. Once you make a deposit and open an account, you have all the rights and privileges of any other shareholder, regardless of the amount in your account. Five dollars or $5 million, it doesn't matter. 2. In a CU, the shareholders elect the Board of Directors in a one-for-one arrangement. Every member gets only one vote. Again, the amount of money you hold in your account does not entitle you to extra votes or other privileges. Very different from a bank... 3. In a CU, the Board of Directors sets the interest rate. People that you elected and that you can go in to see at the CU are the ones setting the rates of your loan and on your dividend. I know my CU's BoD pretty well, and they know me. I've been at my current CU since 1989. Opened accounts, bought several vehicles, a couple homes, have taken out a HELOC loan, have credit and debit cards, etc. 4. Credit unions in the USA are not-for-profit (not the same as non-profit). They aren't for-profit like banks are. That means that a CU must still turn a small profit, but that surplus is then immediately returned to the shareholders (you) in the form of dividends, lower interest loans, higher interest on savings, free checking, no minimum balances in your accounts, free bill-paying, etc. At a bank, you are charged for many of these services that are free at a CU. At the bank, the profits go into the pockets of its directors... 5. Your deposits are insured up to $250,000 through the NCUSIF, which is backed by "the full faith and credit of the US governement" through the NCUA. This is a mechanism for CU deposit insurance roughly equivalent to the FDIC that insures deposits at banks. Both the NCUSIF/NCUA and the FDIC have the same upper limit of deposit insurance ($250,000). Why any Average Joe in America would put their rainy day account/savings and daily operating cash in any financial institution other than a CU is beyond my level of comprehension. Of course, if you've got more than $250,000 lying around, then a CU is not the place for your scratch, and you ain't an Average Joe. But that ain't me, Brotha... bstach- In Canada, it's a bit different. Your CUs are for-profit, so I imagine that it's not much different than having your money in a bank there. YMMV, since I'm not Canadian. Mebbe you should look into CUs in your neck o' the woods a little bit, eh? Jebus Sobo, this sounds like socialism...how does something like this happen in America?
  12. Whats the difference between a bank and a credit union? Is my money safe in a credit union?
  13. Sure beats spraying about the "war on terror"
  14. The post to the Beal site by Chriss is the most interesting because it has actual experimental data. However, lets put this data in perspective. The difference in max fall force is 1-3KN on a 7-14KN fall (using the autolock data). To put that in perspective, for a 200lb man, 1KN is approximately 1G (the Beal data doesn't include the weight they tested with). A fall force of about 50-75KN is what it takes to kill a man. So, the question is, is this significant? Regardless, its an interesting question to think about while waiting for the crags to dry out.
  15. Thats what she said.
  16. Here is a more technical answer from the Definition of Fall factor. Quote from the end of the first section: It references This paper if you want the full scientific analysis
  17. The difference in fall force felt by the climber would be negligible. For anything but a tiny fall, the friction forces are be small compared to the other forces in the system. The rope would still stretch over its entire length, the friction will not "shorten" the length of rope. I am an engineer, so I would know. You could test this with a weight, fish scale and a bungee cord. Let us know what you find.
  18. The summit of Paul Ridge is only 1660m. So sounds like we will be tramping through a small bit of fresh snow for almost half the way. Thx for the info.
  19. Thanks for the suggestion. Not worried about prowlers...its more my low-rider won't make it up the road.
  20. I am planning on taking the family on an over night hike to Elfin Lakes. Wondering about trail conditions...any snow up there yet? Planning to stay in the hut- i understand there is a propane stove there, is this true? Also, wondering where a good place is to leave a car overnight in Squamish? Thanks for the info.

    Martini Thread

That may be true, but do you have a wife or girlfriend? This was supposed to be the girlie martini thread, not the selfish man thread. Though you're right, one would never guess that amidst all the dickwaving going on. Changing the title.

    Martini Thread

Wondering if you all have any favorite martini recepies to share. I don't mean James Bond gin and vermouth martinis (I have the recepie for that anyway) but the more contemporary martinis that are fruity and such. Yes, I know they are not "real martinis". Whatever. Post 'em up.
  24. OMG...Project Grizzly is one of the funniest movies ever. Go rent this movie. True story about a crazy Canuck's attempt to build a bear proof suit.
  25. You will find an entire winter of adventure right in the city... [video:youtube]
