  6. Ya see how this "my side, your side" thing works? All right, I see. Pals now? Lets get the weekend started right, then. Have a good one FW!
  7. Really? 'Cause I haven't heard. Eliminate the government option and maybe they'll get a bill passed. A simple bill preventing insurance companies from dropping the insured who become ill ex post facto will suffice. At least we agree on this specific point, but I think much more than this is needed. In any case, I expect a compromise will happen and its going to come from Obama himself at thr behest of some of the more radical elements of his own party. While as kimmo points out a compromise may well result in missing the whole point of need for reform (that is, its going to be a big payoff for the pharma and insurance industries and little in the way of cost reduction and increased affordability), it also undermines the painting of Obama as a dangerous unreasonable ideologue. you're missing my point: I think congress not only has the votes to pass it, but they have majority public support- and conservatives know it. Therefore the screaming and threats of "voting them out", none of which changes the fact that the loudest screamers are in the minority. If the public genuinely as a majority concludes that this is bad policy and it gets voted down, then so be it, but if it goes down because of viral distortions, rumours, and out and out lies perpetrated by a desperate minority- not acceptable. Nor if congress caves out of fear rather than genuine lack of majority support. Hate? I am quoting directly from a MAINSTREAM conservative media personality who carries a daily listening and watching audience in the tens of millions. He was speaking directly to his own audience- conservatives- to not do something that any decent and rational person takes as a given and not needed to be said. So to whom exactly is he speaking? And, as (I hope) one of those rational and moral persons, don't you find that in the least bit patronizing or even outright insulting? One of two things is going on: either he's acknowledging that a significant part of this so called populist backlash consists of trigger happy reactionaries just itching for a reason and he is trying to cover his ass for the violence that he fears is coming; or, he is making a deliberate attempt to incite seething anger, perhaps even violence, by making otherwise decent and rational people feel as though this issue might be important enough to kill people. And once again, you've avoided any real attempt at answering my question by invoking the "your side did way worse things!" distraction. I don't have to have seen that W movie (and didn't) to know it was in poor taste at best and at worst was a low grade opportunity for fading revolutionaries to indulge in their violent ideological fantasies. And while not to diminish its potential consequences, it was coming from decidedly fringe sources, not a mainstream anointed spokesman for "my side"; which by the way, FOAD for trying to put me in the same room with that crap.
  8. Huh. I heard that we have by far the best system in the world and that if you get sick in Europe you will definitely die. I hear they even make lampshades out of the elderly. So, if we implement Obamacare as specified in the 1000 page document where will our ranking be. Still 37/37, 30 fucking 7th, right? Wish I could give you a definitive answer. I do suspect that if both public and private plans combined with cost reductions can be forged from the mess we have now, that the number will improve. If we choose to stay the course, I'm going to guess 30 fucking 7th.
  9. Huh. I heard that we have by far the best system in the world and that if you get sick in Europe you will definitely die. I hear they even make lampshades out of the elderly.
  10. Funny that raindawg often deridingly refers to "Tommy and Beth" when those two have both led 5.14 trad. Somewhere theres this implication that "that stuff was being done back in my day by humble and anonymous hardmen". At the least, the assertion that sport climbing and working routes had nothing to do with the development of the trad .13 and .14 grades...
  11. Wow, a bunch of clips of Obama for the last few years proposing single payer, in public. Now theres a big uproar because he appears to be moving on it as promised. If anything, it appears he, if not Frank/Pelosi et.al., have for the time being scaled back ambitions due to the conservative objections while pushing ahead so that some reforms can be accomplished. The man was ELECTED while promising the system that you claim there is overwhelming opposition to; the only thing thats happened is that relative minority has gotten louder and angrier in order to intimidate and give the appearance of a "populist backlash". The only reason reform may not pass this time is if congress caves in to fears of being voted out- not the first time that would happen. Meanwhile Glenn Beck this AM felt compelled once again to implore his audience to not "shoot anyone or blow anything up" while otherwise "following your heart's instincts towards saving the republic". FW, any reason your spokespeople would have to remind your fellow conservatives not to go kill senators, the President, or fellow citizens? If this reform passes into law through our timeworn democratic process, is there a civil war backup plan in the works? Because i cant imagine guys like Beck would say shit like this if he didnt think a cross section of his audience didnt include violent extremist nutjobs. Care to comment on the "real America"?
  12. The hairpin is great if you like listening to big rig trucks, jake brakes cranking, bearing down seemingly right on top of you all night long- sketch. Dont know the status of Blue Lake but my thoughts are that it is day use only. Avoid the Blue Lake Trailhead unless you want to be awakened at 4:30 AM by some guy asking "you with the Seattle Basic Scrambles Group?"
  13. Great. I wasn't aware that what you got going here was under any threat by the current proposals. The fear is that what is being tabled is a "trojan horse"- that first we have both public and private options, but next thing you know, Obama's in the operating room taking the scalpel away from the surgeon and putting HCL in your IV. ::
  14. Just heard another gem. This one was from Michael Medved. At least now we're getting at the real value system in place here and which is being foisted daily on the masses of mouth breathers: Caller: Medved: Caller: Medved: Right. So you can just switch plans if you don't like it! That is, unless you are: -old -sick -have a family history of illness -have ever been sick before etc. Better to have some insurance industry goon bending me over than a government bogeyman The second point he makes is even more obvious. I definitely feel better knowing that if my insurance sucks, I have the option of just paying for, say, heart bypass surgery out of my own pocket! Thank god I have the option of shelling out that extra 150,000 I had laying around for a rainy day, I mean that's why you save money, right? Just in case? Yep, the best product they can afford, beautiful system- to each according to his wallet. Just like, you don't get to buy that BMW until you make enough money, in this case, you don't get the good treatment until you work for it. If you make less than $40K a year, at least you have the freedom to buy a plan that will help delay your bankruptcy for a year or two in the event you get sick or have multiple injuries. That is, if they decide to cover it. And just bask in the freedom to switch to an equally expensive plan of a competitor that will offer equally incomplete coverage for you, AND your family! Best of all, you don't HAVE to support these insurance companies if you don't WANT to! If that doesn't sound good, then maybe you just need to work harder!
  15. Yeah, well, Al Qaida's even less accountable, so no big deal!
  16. I dig this one from the comment section:
  17. We're not quite as bad as them If it was kinda like hazing at college fraternities, i assume they all laughed it off over a kegger that night as soon as they unhooked the electrodes from the guy in the hood and cleaned up the puddle of piss. Except for the guy they beat to death. Sometimes hazing just goes awry, its just meant to be fun, ya know?
  18. 1000 pages of obfuscated legalise babble. Nobody but a herd of lawyers can (or will) even attempt to read that POS. yes but its a Republican plan therefore like any good partisan he hasn't read it either, he just knows it has to be good. On that note, i got a good laugh listening to Hannity along with Ann Coulter and Dick Morris "analyze" each line of Obama's plan yesterday. Like you said, those bills are pretty complicated but thank goodness we had such impartial legal 'experts' on the case to decipher it for us laymen. Hey you'll never guess what their findings were!?
  19. That was followed by this academic explanation for global warming: "the earth is like an ice cream cone and, oh, you don't think the earth is melting because, well, we're next to the sun, which is this, like, this orb right next to us that is about 2 million degrees...:OH NO ITS BECAUSE OF CO2!!!!" Even a child can understand that, right? So what's with all these libtards and their worship of science?
  20. Well, tuned by Glenn Beck this morning, in time to hear this gem: "Obama is in bed with huge pharmaceutical companies and in bed with massive insurance conglomerates, and together they are plotting to take away your private coverage..." huh? So he's plotting with the private sector to take away private coverage? He then launched into yet another hypothethical "don't use a gun at these rallies! If you know anyone planning violence, turn them in! If it DID get violent- and god forbid it ever did-..." covering his ass for when some nutjob decides to cap a senator.
  21. Like members of Congress, I don't have time to read a 1000 page bill; since I'm sure you have read it, can you summarize it? Probably I can guess what it encompasses though. The same thing that whatever Obama ends up passing will do: extend the status quo to the insurance companies and a continued increase in prices? And how come we aren't hearing this being promoted by Republicans? You'd think there would be some counter-point being emphasized rather than simple obstruction.
  22. Whatever the system used, I think one key to longterm cost reduction is increased access to (i.e. Cheaper) preventative care that will help people live healthier lives in their older years. High deductables and spendy office visits discourage people from regular checkups for seemingly minor problems. Moreover, often, the best health insurance that someone with a $30K salary can reasonably afford yields a 5-10k out of pocket for something as simple as a broken leg. Given bad luck and a second accident in the ensuing calendar year, that person's life savings are gone- despite having insurance. The debate certainly needs to focus on reduction of costs and less about which cabal should be monopolizing the system (gov't or insurance). What that involves is at a minimum some form of insurance reform and yes, some level of regulation. This talk of "rationing" is valueless when insured people are already being denied coverage and an accident or illness might still bankrupt them.
  23. oh so Obama's in on it too?
  24. Exactly !!!!!!!! ok, so what are you two moonbeams planning to do about it? Keep your answer in code because the government agents might be listening!
  25. Trolling for Richard or Care Bears, OW?
