Nice! Thanks for posting! -
Shameless plug for my Kalymnos TR. http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=843303

Winter, when you were there? We did not see a single person on Agealis, so I am assuming it was wet. Trella was soo fun!!

yes Ivan, I would!! While the place gets dissed, Jim, Kay and I put up some routes we like; and its a nice change of pace from the crowds of Smith. (OK perhaps climbing there is an aquired taste...)

Keeping with the sub-theme of Jim Anglin climbing in Oregon.

And thanks to Tony Homes, the regional access fund rep who attended the climber/USFS meeting last summer. It was Tony's offer of $$ from the Access Fund towards parking and a bathroom that tipped the decision to keeping the road open. Kay and I will continue to work with the USFS, and Tony/Access Fund to get the parking/bathrooms established. Paul C.

Beacon and OZ have same wind forecast saturday, from the west gusting to 21 mph. Better than from the east for certain!

Few folks climbing at Area51 anymore either. I think the ozone took care of that. Still pleny of folks at Buhlo though! And the route looks killer, nice work Elmo and Reed. How about some bouldering up at the house this winter Elmo?

Hi all you fellow climbers - Public input is needed (once again) on a road decommissioning project on Mt. Hood. Briefly, some roads will be decommissioned to enhance aquatic restoration. The main access road to Bulo Point involved in this project. Even if you have never climbed there and never will, it is important to maintain access to this east side crag! This is a family-friendly, entry level crag. Please take the time to send in your comments IN FAVOR of OPTION 3. This option would leave the 2730240 road open from the north (from Highway 44) to the crag and include a turn around with parking. The road would be converted to a trail from the crag south. For the full story, go to the Forest website at www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood in the Projects and Plans section. Click on 'Preliminary Assessment'. Of particular interest are pages 11 (significant issues - they listened to us!) and page 17 (Alternative 3). Comments should be addressed to Michelle Lombardo. Snail mail: 16400 Champion Way, Sandy, OR 97055. Or e-mail: comments-pacificnorthwest-mthood@fs.fed.us Comments are due by November 17. Michelle Lombardo 16400 Champion Way Sandy, OR 97055 Michelle- I am commenting on the road decommissioning for aquatic restoration. Thank you for considering the needs of the rock climbing community when the preliminary assessment was developed. I strongly support Alternative 3 which will allow continued access to Bulo Point from the north on the 2730240 road. Continued ease of access to this family – friendly climbing area, additional parking, and access in case of emergency are important to the local climbers. The conversion of the southern half of 2730240 to trail is an additional benefit to both snowmobilers and mountain bikers. Thank you for including us in the development of these alternatives.

I was just logging in to bump this thread. My wife and I have enjoyed many climbs put up by Jim, hopefully many more will do so also. RIP Jim, Paul & Kay

cold springs th closed due to forest fire!
area51 replied to godskid5's topic in Southern WA Cascades
Notice how much the fire has grown in size east to west compared to the pic in the 2nd post! -
You can get there via Friend. Snow line last weekend was 50' west of the parking, so probably another month until there is access via Hwy 35. And top of crag is 4,000'

Wasn't John Sherman's famous sling found to have been cut by a knife, and that the cut was hidden in the knot???

The CRGNSA folks in hood river have been putting together a mgt plan for the land between Bingen and Lyle WA. Apparently a similar effort is happening for the cape horn holdings. Stan Hitsau (sp??) is the recreation manager and is climber friendly, basically b/c (I think) climbers in this area have such a low impact. Mtn bikers downhillers/free riders are the issue here. But he did have the ecologist and wildlife guys check out each of the cliffs out here (see an old portland guide for reference) and found no concerns. I don't think the OZ would present concerns either, (maybe the trail sliding down the hill????). Stan is aware of the OZ, but has no info on it other than its existance. So perhaps a climbing mgt plan for the OZ to present to Stan???? I don't know. IMO it may be better to be proactive rather than waiting for the hikers that wander down there to make a stink...

Now that's a rockin photo JH!! What route did you climb to get up there?

When I write the guide for the chossy crap I frequent, I always include the developer, AND the 1st acensionist. IMO, my ego says the developer is the more important of the two. Nobodies ever poached a route from me or my buddies, mostly b/c we want everyone to have fun, so all our projects are open. And we even offer out FAs to folks for various reasons, like bringing extra beer to the campfire! Afterall, if you come over from Bend or Portland to check the place out, I'm not gonna then tell ya to stay the frack away. (Although, if you put up a squeeze job, or rip acres of moss off some shitty 5.4, you will be asked to leave....) Cheers!!!

Hey everybody, Jim was our neighbor, our climbing partner, and a great friend and mentor to me and my wife. Jim passed the new route bug to both my wife and I. He started out by bolting lines for Kay to clean and redpoint, then taught us the ins and outs of bolting, and lent us his drill when ever we wanted! Jim was tons of fun to climb with, always providing a great vibe and never complaining about the moss and choss. We will miss you Jim. Paul & Kay

Here's a shot from yesterday morning, albeit from my back porch....

steep basalt/choss cliffs around Hood River? I assume you know Elmo, seeing you are from Spokane. He has developed the bypass. http://www.mountainproject.com/v/washington/the_bypass/105882219 He also mentions some harder stuff here: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/pacific_northwest_partners/looking_for_portlandhood_river_climbers_who_want_to_train_hard/105853983 But I have not talked to him about it. Maybe he will add something here... I have rapped some stuff on Broughton Lumber's land. It was a steep wall of balanced blocks (like 100's of em) above some moderately steep stuff. To much work/danger/private land for me to pursue.

44 is NOT closed. Closure is at the turn off of 44 to the climbing and camping at 15 mile campground. So could probably get to the meadows. Ball Point Fire http://www.nwccweb.us/information/fire_info.asp
