Was climbing at the Seattle VW last night having a great time. So it's time to leave and I was washing my hands and wouldn't you know it some guys walks out of the bathroom stall stinking up the place and straight out to the top rope area and starts climbing. Gross gross gross :noway:

Is it the heel, arch or top of your foot. makes a big difference. The first time in 25 years I'm not able to run because of Plantar Faceitis (sp). Sucks and hurts like a mutha fuqua.

That is an awesome story! We did the same route, the first try I was up about 20' with no pro when a snow chunck comes down and plasters me in the face. I was dangling by my tools, my partner was standing there just looking. I came to, blood streaming down my face, we retreated. The next day we headed back over and sent the mother with no problems. Incredible climb and fantastic area.

Hell NO - if you are in great condition and want a fantastic experience then look for a "private" guide. You'll learn more, have a better experience and will likely only be turned back or summit by your own merit. I've guided many MANY folks up Rainier and there is something very magical about someone's first climb being Mt Rainier. As many others will probably chime in...Train seriously, expect to fail, and never give up!

Great topic. Isn't it hilarious when someone asks you the perverbial "why". Why do you do it? What about it do you like? Is it the Summit that drives you? Isn't rappelling scary? Please Now I'm a HUGE football fan but when the commentator says things like that player has so much courage, or that is a "classy" player I just want to barf. The general public worships mainstream anything whether it's sports, religion or politics because they themselves have to do nothing. Just like the parents pushing their children to do well in sports to fullfil their own unfinished dreams. When climbers are hanging by threads the world stops to watch with amazement (ever been to Yosemite after a climb when the tourists stop you for a picture or a trip report? How about the walk down from Camp Muir after a climb? It's like you're a rock star) The moment we get into any danger - just like life (at least at my work) the back stabbing, the second guessing armchair quarterbacks come out of the freaking closet. An old saying - "If you haven't lost any friends climbing, you probably haven't been climbing very long" - is so so true. I've lost many many aquantices, good friends and very close commrades. I've been second guessed. I say to myself - "Self it just comes with the territory" Even with a 3 year old daughter and another on the way. I'm not going to stop climbing, I'm trying to figure out how to climb more.

Now days dudes are gunning for "How to climb 5.13" instead of the 5.12 standard of being elite. It's funny how you can work your ass off to send a 12c and the kids these days casually say "oh it has a cruzin 5.12 finish". I'm getting so old

Yes we all go to the gym, however you dont have to be a disgusting pig. How many times have climbers gone to the bathroom and NOT washed their hands? I see every time I go. Gross. Stop touching your stinky feet. The gym is a training facility not your living room.
