Maybe the problem be a misinformed landlubber making the title of this thread to have the wrong month. -
19AUG06 - InterGalactic Talk Like A Pirate Day
ClimbingPanther replied to Dechristo's topic in Spray
Aaarrrg, if today be the day, then why be the Pirates Only Forum so far down the list of Active topics? I'll keel-haul you all with my 8mm rope! -
I met a couple of Norwegians coming down Aasgard a few weeks ago and they said many old Norse names have been changed. Is this true / are the Starks' names the new or old ones? Anyway, to him for his love of the outdoors, and peace be with his family

Does it look like mine? <----- Mike's already expressed interest in one just like this

minx, I have had a gateway for 6 years, and apart from the fact that Windows XP takes up half the hard drive and it weighs a ton, it hasn't give me any real trouble. I still use it.

[TR] Prusik Peak- West Ridge 9/10/2006
ClimbingPanther replied to scheissami's topic in Alpine Lakes
I know you don't hate, oly, but my ego can't suffer you to scorn my ideas without a solid rebuttal, no matter how weak my position. It's kinda like when people criticize me for my decision to trash Iraq with only the shakiest threads of evidence.... OH CRAP!!! I just blew my cover! My SS thugs (that's Secret Service in case you were wondering) will be coming by your house with a little gift package of LEAD if you are reading this. I was a little hasty. Yes, I admit it doesn't make sense car-to-car if you're going in and out the same way. Essentially we did bring a pack in most of the way, but left them at camp a mile and a half back, rather than the base of the climb. You're right, I'm wrong. Wait, that was out of character! Get lost, foo! -
Dude, kevbone just said something coherent AND likely true! Way to go man, keep it up! I'm a little apprehensious (sp?), but as someone who's lost confidence in our current president, I guess she couldn't be THAT much worse, right?

Laugh, jerks, laugh. Seriously though, we did the west ridge [edit: packless] last year from the mouth of Viviane, which is about 3 miles round trip. I would not blink an eye before doing it again [packless]. It was pure pleasure the whole way. Maybe 3 to ~20 is a bit of a jump, but I'd be curious to hear if anyone's done long distances [packless]. Packless rules. Go eat sausage, haters -
Dude, I have one of those books. Just thought everyone would want to know.

It may be more difficult to pull this off car-to-car, but I imagine it could work... I find it better when I have a harness with me to actually wear the harness while hiking, then hang stuff off of it (water bottle, small food sack, rock shoes, etc.) than to have an actual pack of any size. The rack & the rope backpack (if you're not familiar with this masterpiece of someone else's genius, let me know) may not be so comfortable for 20 miles, but who knows until you've tried it?! Man, I love the enchantments. Nice TR! -

Spray is always free! I think they should have a separate grading system for every factor imagineable. Last week, I sent a VIx19a-3.4uiFF06+++ with a 0fa1189.4'- approach

Hey Mike, Did you know that Pilsner Urquell is actually a macro import from the Czech Republic? Cheers!

Good advice as long as the glacier is not down to pure ice in the really late season. Then it's downright scary! Although you wouldn't need an ice axe since there's no WAY you'll ever self arrest on that stuff

I thought it would be funny if everyone could vote for other cc.com-ers in a bunch of different categories, kinda like a HS yearbook, except better (exactly how, I don't know, but I'm sure it would be). Things such as... Best sprayer, Most likely to SUCK AT climbing, If I could ban one person, it would be ________, whatever, etc. Maybe this is unnecessary given you can probably figure it out by reading a lot, but it would still be fun. Someone else should set it up. And I predict that in a few minutes, catbirdseat will respond to my post with a reply that doesn't make any sense. Why are you trying to twist my words, cbs?

[TR] Torment-Forbidden Traverse- Torment-Forbidden
ClimbingPanther replied to SmilingWhiteKnuckles's topic in North Cascades
The thing is that it's down to bare ice at the top of the accumulation zone. This means that at one time, there used to be more snow on average per year than what melted, creating the ice in the first place. Now that more snow is melting than falling, the ice will shrink. The other possibility is that an unusual amount of snow avalanched off the mountain, leaving it more bare in spite of the high amount of snow. This could be considering some places down lower appear to have quite a bit of clean snow. -
You and the rest of the extremist liberal left will never convince me of global warming! But seriously,

where is that picture taken?

Not going climbing is stupid.

Point taken, archenemy, and you're right. I am too comfortable with the ever changing nature of forum threads. But I got my opinion out before the rebuke! Yeah! But in all seriousness, I'm sure everyone on this board agrees with the sentiment that this is a terrible tragedy and we all stand with the family and friends and to a lesser extent feel their pain and loss of innocence.

I'm all about guns really. I own several and I'm sympathetic towards carrying and using them (not for bad people though). However, I just can't justify it on the trail. They weigh a ton and are just not worth it. No matter what, it's useless in your pack, so the only way it will do you any good in a quick-thinking situation is if it's on you somewhere accessible such as a chest or hip holster. That said, how often is someone attacked by wild game? It's way rare. Maybe in grizzly country I might carry a 44 mag, but that's it. Cougars usually don't give you any time to react. Then we think about the wild murderer out there... So you got your gun prominently displayed on you. So he knows you have a gun and are willing to use it. Think he's going to watch you take it out and point it at him? Over his dead body! Wait, no, yours. Now maybe he'd leave you alone because you're a threat, but only maybe. Not worth the weight for me.

This is pretty scary... I'm carrying two tools for all hikes and climbs from now on! http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/6420AP_WA_Trail_Bodies.html?source=mypi

Seriously! Crampons should come from the factory with a huge disclaimer/warning on them about this because clearly the 10384752 gazillion people that have done this before with astonishingly identical results did not provide enough of a history lesson.
