Graffiti at The Feathers
ClimbingPanther replied to catbirdseat's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
Acetone's not all that cheap either, when bought as a "chemical" for "research." That adds about 100+% to the price of something common though, so I'm sure you could find it cheaper. It ought to work. The tricky part would be to actually remove the paint instead of dissolving it while the acetone runs down the rock 3 inches then evaporates leaving the paint 3 inches lower and much, much uglier I'm sure it could be done. Does anybody know how to get a hold of acetone [or another relatively environmentally and people-friendly chemical that will remove said paint] cheaply and legally? I will possibly be at Vantage this weekend, weather permitting, and wouldn't mind helping out if I have the tools. Maybe I'll bring a little acetone and a couple other chemicals to test out our theories before anybody spends bucks on something that won't work. -
then you have to think up a good title and live up to it. like minx just did. although I think you went a little soft on the scorn.

aagh, is the site having issues being slow or did I just get banananinated?

I tried to get in to UWSOM for this year but got rejected. Are you in bed with any of the admissions staff?

cool man, so I guess some post I read a while back about being unemployed isn't true anymore. I do research more in biochemistry/physics, and we're working on developmental studies in (rat) brains.
-
hey fox, be fair now, she at least said "might." that's status quo for research, seriously. the more applicable you claim your results to be, the more likely you are to get more funding and keep your job. and the jump from mouse to human isn't that astounding, really. certainly there are differences genetically, but mouse and rat studies are the beginning of a vast number of useful studies. they mature fast, have extremely similar [to us] immune systems, and they sound kinda like popcorn when you break their neck.

I think that one IS the deadly one, when consumed in sufficient quantities

So from what I've read, I think you need to chop that thing up, eat half of it, then spread the other half around your yard. In a couple months... hook me up!

arch, I can personally assure you that is not the Panther Cap mushroom, if it's what I'm thinking of

Yeah, that's true. On a completely unrelated topic, sometimes people ask me why I waited until 23 to be circumcised. I just tell them "It was about time."

I believe you are wrong on both counts there, Catbird. Those who have been given the silver chalice have neither been acquaintances of nor necessarily liked by those who grant the moderator status. but still, olyclimber's suggestion applies, right? and Dru, quit giving him false hope about not posting for a month. It's 10 years. If you knew anything about history, you'd know that this website started in 1990, but all the original moderater-wanna-be's had to wait until 2000 before anybody posted.

hey dechristo, a venerable sage like weekendclimberz is not vulnerable to your remarks. venereal disease, maybe, but not your remarks.

Graffiti at The Feathers
ClimbingPanther replied to catbirdseat's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
I don't know how much graffiti is there, but using a solvent to remove it is the best as far as its effects on the rock and its looks, but you probably wouldn't want to use methylene chloride. It sounds like that was special because it removed the graffiti but not the paint underneath. It's a potential carcinogen and probably 10x more expensive than something you could just buy at a hardware store. It will be a substantial cost no matter what method you use, 'cause paint, solvents, and sandblasters are all expensive in large scale. -
Wait, you mean he wasn't wearing football pads either?!?!

Is it just me or did someone else notice how much more grown-up the discussion was today than yesterday? After a little research, this happens to be the first Friday in kevbone's viewable post history which he hasn't made a single post. Twilight zone? *music* ... or banninationism?

It's been a while and I can't remember the exact scenario, but I know all my draws have the gates facing the same way, and I think this particular draw was a half-dog-bone, though I don't remember which end had the fixed 'biner (probably the bolt-end, which I think is incorrect, but they don't come with manuals)? This link shows exactly what happened, though I'm still not sure how the draw rotated to get into this position and how to prevent it in the future: http://www.climerware.com/unclip.shtml

Yeah, it's easy to MAKE it happen by moving the draw around with your hand, but how can the rope pull the draw up above the bolt? That's where I'm not sure what happened. I'd love to know so it only happens to me once as well.
