  1. Holy crap this is dumb. Their stuff didn't stop selling because the ads were too hot; it was because they started marketing to the 12-year old crowd that can't afford $40 bras. Who likes burnt orange with fluorescent green polka dots and "pink" stamped on the butt anyway? Not that I'm irritated anything. To the other girly climber chicks out there: isn't it annoying when you finally find a brand that fits well, and then their styles go to crayola? Now if I could only find a good brand of jeans. Of course once I did they'd probably cover them with sequins or something.
  2. Anyone have experience with cortisone shots for chronic low back pain? Side effects? Most of the studies I've found were on knee and arthritic problems. Also, the lit seems to suggest that cortisone treats symptoms, not causes, and will resurface eventually. This is for a friend: he's been seeing a PT for about 6 months with some improvement, but not much. His MD is recommending cortisone and possibly surgery. He did try chiropractic but the DC thought that a different modality would work better. Has anyone tried acupuncture? Thank you for your thoughts.
  3. you might investigate your bf's closet to see if he has a shirt saying "if you can read this the bitch fell off" Correction: "If you can read this the bitch FLEW off" This made me laugh! I was serious about the question but I also knew it had a troll factor of plus 10 . . . Thanks guys . . .
  4. Quick question for you all: I ride on the back of a Honda Blackbird (CBRXX). Loads of fun, but when we hit over 105 my head gets forced back from the wind. I know other people that have had this experience. This bike was definitely designed for a single rider. I last about 1-2 minutes before my neck and shoulder starts aching. Any advice to reduce this? Besides getting my own?

    yummy recipes

Since you've got chantrelles and potatoes, all amounts are approximate: Chantrelle-potato salad with pancetta, shallots, and thyme 12 oz. chantrelle mushrooms 6 oz. slab pancetta, diced 3 lbs. baby Yukon potatoes halved into bite size pieces 4 medium cloves fresh garlic minced 2 tsp. fresh thyme 1 1/2 tsp. sea salt 1/3 c. Chardonnay 2 tbs. chopped fresh tarragon 1 tbs. chopped chives 1/2 c. white wine vinaigrette 1. Preheat oven to 375. Tear cleaned chantrelles into 1 in. pieces. 2. Cook pancetta in a large frying pan until crisp and browned. Transfer to paper towel, reserve drippings. 3. Toss potatoes with 3 tbs. reserved drippings, garlic, thyme, 1 tsp. salt, and 1/2 tsp. pepper. Divide potatoes into two 9x13 glass baking pans. Bake, stirring every 10 min. or so, until tender, browned, and crispy, about 25-35 min. Remove from oven and keep warm. 4. While the potatoes are baking, cook shallots in butter in large frying pan until soft, about 1 min. Add chantrelles, and cook until browned about 5-6 min stirring as needed. Add Chardonnay, remaining salt and pepper. Scrape up browned bits and cook until liquid evaporates. 5. In a large bowl, combine potatoes, mushrooms, pancetta, tarragon, and chives. Drizzle with vinaigarette. 6.Eat.
  7. Heard that the road to Harts pass was closed earlier this month. Checked the USFS website and didn't see anymore info. Anybody know if it's reopened, or when it will? Thx, Alicia
  8. Actually I think it's for the taxes. A lot of people that make bank also have business licenses, or their spouses do, so they can take advantage of the tax breaks. One of the tricks is to purchase a brand spankin' new vehicle every year, and you get a bigger break when it's in a heavier weight category. At least I think that's how it works or did work in '04 when I was buying a truck for my biz. If somebody knows more I'm open to a little ehjukatin'.
  9. The 3-D dino movie at the IMAX is pretty sweet. Too many PhD's, not enough dinos though.
  10. My family is doing one of those cruise ship tours of the Alaskan coast in June; not the way I would have picked to be introduced to Alaska but a good way to get to know the aunts and uncles. The cruise line offers some rock tours, but they're way too short, only 3 hours. We're going to be in port on the 25th. I thought I'd see if by some slim chance I could connect with a partner. I'd pack my gear if I thought there was a chance of getting some climbing in. I'm consistent in the 9/10 range, and can usually make it up hard 10 slab TR. Send a pm if you're interested, or know someone who might be.

    the queens of spray

I was thinking proceeds go to either the Access Fund or check in with AlpineK re: hospital bills. There's a lot of folks in the calendar that don't make it to the events, and personally I'd rather see the $$ go to making climbing more accessible to everyone (Skaha anybody?). But Tvash has done a bomber job with the calendar, looks great! And I'm sure wherever the cash goes it's just fun to be in it!

Awwww, shucks. Thanks for the nomination roboboy! If you all do a cc.com calendar photo shoot I nominate Gary Yngve for photographer.
  17. How often should a harness be replaced? Is there a time when even if it still looks okay it should be replaced, like an older rope? This one's 5 years old, and while the seams still look bomber it's pretty faded and getting a little worn around the edges looking. It's been kept clean and stored dark'n'dry.
  18. Trip: Tieton - Mark's Wall Date: 3/18/2007 Trip Report: Out at Tieton this weekend. SAW ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. A nice alternative to the crowds at Vantage this time of year! Weather was gorgeous: upper 60's and sunny. Night temps were probably right around 30. Campgrounds are still closed but there's lots of spots off on some of the dirt roads. Gear Notes: Draws and rope. Maybe some bug goop for the ticks. Found a few on the dog. Approach Notes: The road to Honeycomb is still snowy/slushy.
  19. In that pic of her I thought it looked like she was eating a blue bag for a second. Made me laugh! I'm guessing it's just her collar.

  21. Are you serious? Wow. I just have to know who gave it to you? I have to admit, I was wondering the same thing . . .
  22. Gift cards sold. Bags and tent still for sale. Also, custom bmx bike for sale. Light Schwinn frame, S&M bars, shimano DX brakes, 2 pegs, tires for dirt. It's in pretty decent shape, but needs some TLC. Make an offer, I haven't ridden much the last couple of years, and vet bills are killing me.
  23. Two sleeping bags for sale, mummy style. One is a Sierra Designs Dreamweaver, rated to 15 degrees, the other is a Slumberjack rated to 20 degrees. Both bags are clean, in good condition, and have been stored loose. New the Dreamweaver was $200, I'm asking $125. It's about 4 years old. The Slumberjack is about 7 years old, and I'm asking $50 for it. Feel free to make an offer. The tent is a 2 person kelty backpacking tent with poles and fly. It weighs about 6 pounds. I've had it 9 years and used it twice. Again, make an offer. Also, $20 gift card to Starbucks, $20 gift card to Tully's, and $50 gift card to REI. We can meet somewhere with wifi and confirm amounts if you want before purchasing. I'd rather meet in the Seattle/Eastside area and exchange cash for goods, than ship.
  24. Not for me though, for the man. He keeps trying to turn me into some trad loving mistress, and quite frankly, I'm happier wearing prana tops and clipping bolts. He leads hard 10's trad, 11's sport. Email him at scottydogdavis@comcast.net if you can keep up with him. I'm out of town the next two weeks so I figure this is a good time to post this; that way he has time to get over being pissed off at me for posting this before I get home. Good luck and happy climbing!

    Caption time!

I was thinking he was pissed off because it didn't match his hat. But the real question is if it matches his shoes . . .
