  1. I'm happy to report successful transplant of my devil's club plants (Echinopanax horridum, or Oplopanax horridus, or Alaskan ginseng), 9 weeks after planting them. Practical uses for Echinopanax horridum: The leaf shoots are edible in early spring, but only for the first few days of appearance, when soft. They can be eaten raw or added to other foods like a spice. The roots are also edible in Spring. The roots can be used to make a tonic tea, like Oriental ginseng, which belongs to the same botanical family as devil’s club. There are a multitude of medical uses for devil’s club, particularly used by Alaskan and Northwest native groups, but effectiveness is mostly not scientifically documented. Of course it is a great landscape shrub to have around (ha ha - just so you know I might be joking). This one is named "EW" 2/11 4/15 This one is named "ML" 2/11 4/15
  2. Required reading around these parts, son. Keep a copy handy at Starbucks, pub club, sausagefest or your evening yoga session. Note the chapter entitled "How to Spray With Sensitivity on an Internet Forum". Real life example:
  3. you could look for Somebody To Love.
  4. thanks anyway, but Kenny G has never touched my heart like this guy could
  5. thanks Doxey, mine are doing well also, but lagging yours (maybe because of transplant shock or planted in a slightly cooler location). I was planning on an update soon.

  10. I heard the forecast is for rain on July 16. You may have to rethink your calendar.
  11. This year Ulrich's couloir on Mt Stuart may still have plenty of snow midseason and I think that you would find it to be a bit more than a walk up.
  12. who are you ? Fred Beckey ?
  13. maybe something to do with bedroom activities
  14. so true (ha ha)
  15. Where can I sign up for one of these ?
  16. There's so many that this is hard to answer. For easier non-technical scrambles that could still be called a climb I would recommend: Snoqualmie Mt - south side Red Mt (mostly snow now) Mt Baring (mostly snow) Mt Pilchuck Hidden Lake Pk (wait for access road to open) Search nwhikers and wta and you may find some reports on these.
  17. Climb: Vantage - Running with Sage Date of Climb: 3/26/2006 Trip Report: ams and I went to Vantage to do some moderate sport routes. We started out at the Feathers. Here is ams leading Shake It Dont Break It: We moved on to Mandatory Suicide and then Jesus Saves, both also in the Feathers. Mandatory Suicide: Jesus Saves: At this point ams's dog named Sage became unimpressed with human tricks and showed us what she can do - run away and go swimming in freezing water: We left the Feathers and hiked to a different area and climbed Little Red Rooster: Pigeons in love at Vantage: We finished our tour of moderates with Sisterly Love, a sustained 5.7 that ams did a great job of leading. robo at the top anchors: After this we went to find MCash, catbirdseat and bwr who we had planned on meeting. MCash, ams and bwr: catbirdseat was busy leading Go Cat Go: ams and MCash top-roped: We got the extra exercise we needed chasing Sage around all day and ams finally made a leash for her out of runners. It was a great day at Vantage, a great day anywhere:

  21. At least provide his contact info so we can keep in touch.
  22. Volcano routes or Mt Shuksan routes. Mt Stuart north side glaciers, snow/ice routes on Dragontail & Colchuck. Eldorado, maybe Forbidden. Depends on highly variable snow conditions/weather. Since it is in lieu of an "AK" trip he should be able to handle any of these.
  23. Since you can only drive a mile or two of the Depot creek road anyway, it's more a question of how much of a slog it will be up to Redoubt in May depending on snow conditions.
