Suggestions for alpine harness....
TheOldHouseMan replied to aLx_JustcliMbing's topic in The Gear Critic
I have a Black Diamond Blizzard harness for sale in the "Yard Sale" New, never been used. Aaron -
"Good" is a relative term. Depends on what you are doing. Climbing conditions should stay "good" but skiing conditions can suck big time up high.

There is a pretty good gear review article about skins in the latest edition of Couloir magazine. The article is more focused toward the novice skiers. But after reading the article I learned a few things.

What are we going to do this summer?
TheOldHouseMan replied to TheOldHouseMan's topic in the *freshiezone*
I know the hill your talking about. What do you think the vert is? It's been a while since I have been over there. -
At this point it doesn't look like we are going to get any snow in the PNW to make it good through the summer. Im still optimistic though. So...I was thinking of a deal I saw on Oregon Field Guide about Sand Boarding. Is this limited to the knuckle draggers or can you do parrell turns and telle turns in the sand? Aaron

They are all rock skis

They also can carry Parvo. I don't think it will do anything to people but it does kill your dog.

I can think of only one other way of glacier travel that is sketchier than traveling without being roped up and that would be on a two man rope. You better trust the guy on the other end of the rope that he can self arrest, stop the fall and rig up some kind of anchor while he is holding you from falling into the abyss. We tried all this in my crevase rescue class and it was very difficult.

Yoga Classes in Portland
TheOldHouseMan replied to TheOldHouseMan's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
A few of the teacers at "Yoga in the Pearl" look pretty good. The prices are a little to much though but it's almost worth it to go down there. http://www.yogapearl.com/teachers.asp -
"rain reports" from local resorts
TheOldHouseMan replied to thelawgoddess's topic in the *freshiezone*
I believe ack in the old days the resorts had more rocks, stumps and trees in the runs. After those thin years a lot of the resorts removed the obstacles and now can open with less snow. i was also wondering how can the resorts afford to stay closed. -
What is your opinion on a sleeping bag wth a center zipper over the chest? It doesn't look to bad but I have not used one.

If there is one Brand that compares to FF and Western Mountaineering it would be Nunatak. Another custom bag manufacturer.

Most useful/useless items on remote climb
TheOldHouseMan replied to luwayo's topic in Climber's Board
On snow climbs I rarely bring T.P. anymore. Just use snow. It actually works really good and is very refreshing. On the other hand, ice doesn't work all that well and kind of hurts. -
I've been thinking of getting into the yoga thing. Anyone have any experience with some classes in Portland. Preferably close in NE/NW.
