The 2007 Zack Martin Breaking Barriers Grant (ZMBB) has been awarded to
Fabrizio Zangrilli and Billy Pierson. Congratulations guys...!!
The Humanitarian Objective will implement the first phase of Girls
Educational International, the Khane Village Girls School Renovation.
Fabrizio and Billy will purchase , deliver and install materials that will
renovate the school. In addition, they will provide various school
supplies and provide a half year of salary for the local teacher. These
Muslim women will benefit from this effort in many ways including a better
school facility, a better general education, a greater understanding of
world politics, introduction to understanding women's rights, enhanced
health training and religious tolerance training. This is a grass roots
effort that will be continued by Girls Educational International that can
change the hearts and minds of Muslim women in Pakistan.
The Alpine Objective will attempt a new, 2900m, direct route up the south
face of K2 through mixed terrain for 2000', intersect with the Magic Line
and continue to the summit. Alpine style climbing without oxygen will be
the team tactics.....light and fast.
IF YOU HAVE A HEART, ALL DONATIONS TO THE ZMBB GRANT FUND ARE MOST WELCOME
AN APPRECIATED.

The Grant Fund Specifics The "Breaking Barriers" grant will be awarded to
young, promising climbers and mountaineers to support the exploration of
the unknown. This grant is different from others because their is a
humanitarian aspect. Each recipient must "tackle" a worthy alpine
objective but also perform a humanitarian service for the local people.
Zack received several grants from the AAC, Anatoli Boukreev and others but
he was never satisfied with only physical exploration. He wanted to
explore the people, their customs and their hearts in an attempt to "give
something back"......to...... "break barriers". This makes the grant
unique and a most honorable cause. To date, we have collected around
$35,000 and my target is $100,000 to we can offer $5,000 a year in
perpetuity
