  1. Okay...time to make some plans...rock or snow...rock or snow...checkin the weather report...lesseee here....stay tuned...
  2. did he hurt his little backy whacky? awwww
  3. what about the mighty Lane?
  4. MOST monkeys have opposable thumbs on their feet as well as their hands. If he's one of these....does he wear climbing shoes or go shoeless? Oh...and I climb for drugs, sex, and rock n roll...yeah...thats it. tee hee
  5. Thanks Guys! We've got room for a couple more in our car if anybody is interested...I'll call them tomorrow morning and post on whether its a go or not. Its so nice to live here in the PNW....theres so much to do
  6. T'was a beautiful (well, cool anyways) sight from the Plateau as well. We watched the whole thing.
  7. This applies to the sissy easy downhill 'stay in the lodge and be warm' part of Hood...Timberline. Has anyone been up there this time of year? How is the snow? Is it worth it? The weather report lists showers...does it rain that high up or does that mean snow for them? I am thinking of taking my 10 year old up and neither of us are great skiiers and have never done any backcountry. So, this applies to the groomed runs etc... We're itching to go and were wondering if its worth the drive. Any beta would be helpful....and rude comments too, Dru We KNOW we're not REAL skiiers...we just wanna have fun and get the f*&^ outta dodge this weekend.
  8. ummm no... kinda but not realy. to me all things have a life cycle rotation. i buy a new rope and it is my lead rope...when it starts to get al mangy and i begin to wonder about it... it then becomes my top rope opnly rope, and i have to buy a new lead rope. if i feel i can't top rope on a rope any more then i will use it for non climbing things what sorts of non climbing things?
  9. Skis, boots, poles. Skins if you don't like to boot up 5000' of vert. Ice ax for the final push, maybe crampons. drC - The helpful answer guy Thanks Dear. See thread in Freshiez....
  10. Heh heh...I can lead up to 5.6 bolted depending on the route....but I doubt that would be of much use for my climbing partners...unless they're under 10 years old and total newbies
  11. I could do either...I need ot be back Sunday afternooon though. I'm flexible...the only problem is...I can't lead So if I go...I have to follow and clean.....Ahhh...the issues with being a damned newbie sometimes. (SIGH)
  12. I'm interested....
  13. this really will be your best bet to save bucks and the skis really don't matter because you will learn to ski whatever you have. (really!) i use "downhill" skis in both my AT and tele setups because those are the skis i wanted. sometimes i wish i had lighter skis on my AT setup but i just ended up with some beefy fat skis whereas i could have just bought lighter (downhill or "other") skis. still beats carrying my alpine gear around! I love shaped skiis...I used them this past year for the first time (took a couple of years off because of a blown acl) and they made all the difference. I've been skiing for 11 years (i didn't know it had been that long) and have never progressed to black diamonds. Those skiis and the control I had made me realize that I could totally do that now. Thanks for all the advice everyone...
  14. "Boy! Pants! Now!" "Look at the size of his heed! Its like an Orange on a Toothpick!" (said in a fake Scottish accent)
  15. That really sucks. We're heading out to Vantage on Sunday a.m. if you'd like to catch a ride with us. Ive never been to Vantage but Ive heard good and bad things about it. Have fun at the gym! That SO sucks about Smiff
  16. stalker! don't flatter yourself...if'n i was "stalking" you, i'd go to the gym! u LIVE at that gym and everyone knows it....I asked about u once and the guy at the front desk said "Oh, you mean the little short guy who...." actually, i'm taking the sprogs there tomorrow so I'll come up and introduce myself....meet the MAN himself finally
  17. got one....and she's WAY cuter than YOU
  18. stalker!

  20. I noticed but didn't want to start a new thread.....this one seemed just fine
  21. whoo hoo! I got em all...plus a Rafael We won't be down until early Sunday mernin though Oh well....
  22. its a toss off.... "Be advised. I'm mean, nasty and tired. I eat constatina wire and spit napalm and I can put a round through a flea's ass at 200 meters." "My name is Gunnery sgt Tom Highway and I've drank more beer, pissed more blood banged more quim and busted more heads than all of you put together" "So ya wanna be a marine?"
  23. Subies are awesome...I've got a 2000 Forester....its cheap to own and gets great gas mileage...easy to maintain...all wheel drive is awesome if you already know how to drive in the ice and snow....its as high off the ground as the CRV or RAV4 but has more cargo space...I'm little so sleeping in the back isn't a problem but if you're under 6' you're still good....I get about 28 mpg in town and 32 on the freeway....just my humble opinion.
  24. things ARE getting a little sleepy around here....where are all the naughty people? I'm just too thin skinned and sweet and naive to cause trouble Cavey? Greg_W? Lambone? Where are ya? Even Dru's been a good boy these past few days.....and Harpell is quiet as well! Sumthin's gonna blow soon....and it innit a gonna be St. Helens
  25. Its (almost) time to go and buy a new pair of skiis. The last pair I bought are about 8 years old...pre shaped ski era for sure. I doubt the boots or bindings are worht anything anyways so I'm thinking 'send em to goodwill or the dumpster'. I'm a beginning/intermediate downhill (as in groomed runs and chairlifts) skiier but I have a feeling that I will be expanding my horizons this year whether I like it or not. I'm not really sure what ski mountaineering is all about and since I've never set foot on anything that didn't already have a name, should I look for the usual 'average priced downhill package' or is there something that will perform as well as a downhill package that might have a little more versatility? I'd like to actually be able to afford my lift tickets as well as my other adventures....so gear junkies, please keep that in mind when making recommendations. Thanks!
