  1. Me and the crew pulled into Winthrop on Friday for the weekend-long wedding celebration of a good friend. Spent the weekend causing a ruckus with the Winthrop locals, playin' cards, running around in the swamp, and moongazing ... all with plenty of Fosters fat cans in hand. Winthrop Winnie says "Howdy cc.com Pardners."
  2. I'd like to get this thread back on track ... I am looking for partners that would be interested in climbing with someone at my level (see first post in thread). PM me if interested.
  3. Wow Layton ... you must be pullin' em' down with lines like those.
  4. Tough call ... strong arguments for both. Maybe I just need to "sack up" (can a chick do that?) and get to both of em like MisterE suggested.
  5. Thaks ya'll for the advice and offers to climb! B
  6. I might only be able to attend one of these events in October and I need help deciding which one. 'Twas wondering if those of you who have attended one or both could chime in. How do they differ with respect to climbing, attendance, and general vibe? Thanks in advance for your opinions ... I know you all have one.
  7. I was advised that it is best to perfect sport before fully taking the step into trad ... so I guess I am interested more in multipitch sport, HOWEVER, I'll take what I can get.
  8. I am looking to step my climbing up a notch and test my mettle on some multipitch sport climbing. I am looking for someone who is perfectly happy teaching someone inexperienced and leading every pitch while I get familiar with the mechanics of multipitch climbing. Now for the "resume" (if you can call it that). I just started rock climbing this summer. All of the climbing I have done has been top roped sport (aside from cleaning two short trad routes), and have only led one 5.7 route so my experience is really limited. I am pretty strong, a quick learner, not a quitter, and pretty enthusiastic about climbing in general. If you think you might be up for it ... PM me. Brianna No spray please.
  9. I'd be there in a flash if I wasn't heading out of town. Keep me posted on any other trips you put together! B
  10. Aron Ralston Completes 100-mile Race In Mountains The Associated Press Updated: 3:44 p.m. ET Aug. 24, 2004 LEADVILLE, Colo. - A little over a year after cutting of his arm to save his life during a solo hike in Utah, Aspen adventurer Aron Ralston has completed a grueling 100-mile race at over 10,000 feet elevation. More than 400 runners began the Leadville Trail race before dawn on Saturday, racing through hail and lightning at times, but fewer than half officially completed the race. Some dropped out because of nausea and cramps and others weren't able to cross the finish line within the 30-hour time limit. Ralston, an official finisher with a time of 29:43, said he got sick after eating an onion sandwich but continued running despite feeling nauseated. Paul DeWitt of Colorado Springs won the men's race for the second straight year with a time of 17:16:19. Anthea Schmid of Crested Butte was the first woman to finish, with a time of 23:30:43. Volunteers at aid stations peeled bananas for Ralston, who previously had only run in 5K races. "I felt in good balance," he said. "I helped one gentleman who took a spill." His mother Donna Ralston was waiting at the finish line to give him a hug. Last April Ralston was hiking alone, negotiating a canyon in southeastern Utah when his right arm became pinned beneath an 800-pound boulder. After other failed attempts, he freed himself on the fifth day by snapping his bones and using a knife to cut through his arm. He applied a tourniquet and clambered out of the canyon. After a six-mile hike, he found tourists who flagged down a helicopter. Since then he has learned to play the piano one-handed, climbed 14,000-foot-tall Colorado mountains alone and returned to skiing and mountain biking.
  11. After 5 years on the job ... Crushed? Not yet. Dented? Yes. (Call them battle scars.) Cracking in freezing conditions? Not yet.
  12. Jens - Sigg ... love em'. I picked up my first ones when I was in Munich in '99 and they are still in great shape. They can withstand me throwing them around, don't freeze (although they do stay nice and cold), and don't leech a taste into the water. All of my bottles have the standard screw top, but would imagine that you can replace the sport top with the screw top if they have that narrow (inch and a half?) opening. One trick ... pick up some of the Bottle Clean tablets if you haven't already. If you are filling with anything other than water, your bottle can take on a funk after a while that is tough to get rid of. I clean mine with the tablets once every few months. Below is a link to a retailer that carries Sigg and most accessories. Haven't found one stateside yet. Hope this was helpful, Brianna http://www.adventureshop.co.uk/sigg/accessories.htm
  13. Everyone has their opinions ... here's mine: I bought the Pocket Rocket this year for use primarily on Baker and Rainier trips and have been pleasantly suprised by its performance. It outperformed both the Simmerlite and the Giga Power on both trips and was very stable despite the hurkin capacity pot that I use for melting. It's super light to boot .... Brianna P.S. - Here is the link to my thread asking for the same opinions - hope it helps! http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/366034/page/1/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1
  14. $50!!! My ticket at Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead (because my crazy Dad forgot to stick the pass in the windshield) was only $5. Has the penalty gone up?
  15. Willy Strikla ... Confirmed that Feathered Friends carries both. B
  16. Happy Birthday Snugtop! Here's hoping your day is as fabulous as you. Your beer's on me the next time we rub shoulders at Pub Club. Celebrate big today! Cheers! Brianna

  18. Get in line boys ... every guy wants to meet our hot little Nina. B
  19. To be honest, we went with the theory that if one of us went in ... the other would hold. The person in the hole would be responsible for hauling their own sorry butt out. Mmm ... prusiks. Secondarily, we made sure to have a couple of parties ahead of us that would punch through first.
  20. I'd definitely show up if we go to an area where inexperienced noobs like me can get some climbing in along side the rest of you all stars. Just my two cents.
  21. Sounds a lot like my second attempt at Rainier. Took me three times to finally get to the summit, but I have to say, each time was just as great a memory because I remembered to enjoy the journey. Wishing you success on your second attempt! Brianna
