The Pasayten Wilderness has a very remote feeling once off the beaten path, and has some great rarely summitted peaks. The weather is great in the fall also!
Yup, we almost got sunburned today at Snag Buttress. Mid 60s, dry rock, no crowds, and not a tick in sight. We even met a couple of guys who bailed from Liberty Bell because it was pouring there this morning...
Thanks for the weather report, JST. We are going to be optimists and head over there anyway (we are already in Laconner). Hey, if it rains we will just practice our aid skills!
I am interested in checking out some of the new climbs on the Black Wall..... easy to mid 5.10...I can lead, or whatever...
Erie is often dry when other parts of the West Slope are drenched, and Sunday looks to be the best weather day.
We did the NE Ridge of Black Peak in the mist on Saturday....13 hours car-to-car, and we never did see the whole mountain....even got some snow on the summit. Awesome exposure, "interesting" rock quality....
Back on topic....Sounds like Stefans idea of attacking while the snow is around may be the best approach....the other options sound slightly adventurous for a day trip.
Yes, unfortunately my weekend starts Friday after work, and then I turn into a Pumpkin Saturday at Midnight. As a result, I am constrained to a day trip, although it could be a very long one.....
My partner for Saturday just bailed on me, so I am looking for someone for a long day on the rock. Ideas are West Ridge of Forbidden, Exfoliation Dome, Black Peak, or something long and trad at Lworth. Or.....?
My experience with Fossil Rock is that it is worth the visit to climb once, just to say you have been there, but the rock quality and aesthetics of the area are moderate at best.
