  1. two points.... first you want to decrease birth rates? Educate the women and give them access to birth control. As memory serves this has been pretty effectively established. Make them literate, give them the tools to thing rationally, and the backbone to stand up and they stop having oodles of midgets. as for "Economism" (the believe that free markets can be truly self regulating.) There's two fundamental flaws in it. It assumes that either the entire population is cognizant enough of the long term effects of purchasing power and current decisions to self regulate, and to regulate problems sufficiently early before they have consequences that are too dire. Or it assumes that companies are ethical and forthinking about something other than their own profit. Maybe Patagonia, kind of, or Whole Foods, kind of. Business are in it to make a profit and to grow, if they can't do that they fail and have no effect at all, and those goals seems to be almost directly opposed to altruistic ends. Some of the businesses moderate their impact a bit but that's about all you can hope for in the way of self regulation. As for the first it's been my experience that very few people have the will, desire, or forthought to do this, and even the ones who do give it thought do it inconsistantly (I know i'm guilty of this). The vast majority of people tend to do what's in their immediate best interests, or act on immediate desires. (what's cheapest, most abudant, most desirable.) and we get the rise of Walmart in small towns, Oil conglomerates, etc etc. Individuals acting independatnly can think and act intelligently, but the larger the group of people, the lower the collective intelligence, until you end up where we are now.

  3. Then don't climb it silly boy.
  4. OMG! Why didn't we think of this before? It appears California is now offering free vasectomy's to obese men. Please discuss... Free Vasectomy's to large boned people! It would be really interesting to see the results of an overall cost analysis to making vasectomy's free of charge or very highly subsidized. Drop in unwanted pregnancies, fewer deadbeat dads leaving kids in their wake. Why stop with obesity, how about the criminal population, anyone with more than 2 kids, anyone with over 25000 posts to a climbing website... the list goes on!

    Subaru sells out

How many mpg do the Prius or Civic hybrid's actually get? Are they actually better than something like the Jetta TDI's?
  7. Also seems like the pills are just asking to hold water so they don't shed rain as well. I've thought about breaking out a beard trimmer but haven't tried it yet.
  8. Most of the new cams with cam stops can be placed passively as well, but not all (DMM's, Rock Empire, Metolius), though anything lacking beefy cam stops can't be (i.e. Aliens, Trango Max Cams) Though i've never placed on passively so what the hell do I know?
  9. Bump! Any more current news on road/snow conditions?
  10. bump Any new word? Does stuff usually open up by Mid-April?

  14. Minnesota article all you gun nuts sure are right. It's definitely people that kill other people. But guns sure do make it a hell of a lot easier to kill lots of them all at once.
  15. Maybe Geo Metro's and the old VW bugs should be the off road standard. With a big winch welded to the frame it could climb vertical rock Not to mention, 2 people could just carry it over the ditch.
  16. Because we all know climbers are surrounded by lots of hot . How's that been workin out for ya?
  17. Has anyone gotten the new Patagucci catalog? I can't afford their stuff, but.... Had a very interesting article on the residents of Easter Island. I never realized it was a relatively well populated heavily forested island til we showed up, and stripped it bare.... When the English(?) arrived the island was just barely capable of sustaining it's then small population, and there wasn't a tree or shrub over 10ft tall. Any way you cut it our global society is woefully out of balance and there will come a reckoning. I'm not a believer in the end of the world hocus pocus... but unless we make some drastic changes in the next century, to bring ourselves more in balance, things are going to get really ugly for our childrens, childrens, children. Just like the deer populations..... unluckily were a race of addicts, and addicts rarely change until they hit rock bottom.

If we convince more of them that Gym climbing is the only true form of climbing maybe it'll clear out the crags?

Hey, just because your beaver skin murkin itches is no reason to blame it on us.
  22. That's a stupid question. The issue is primarily economic, and bean counters and policy wonks know more about the big picture than grunts in the field. Will's a sharp cookie, and you're..... what, exactly? Bald? or was that rhetorical?
  23. Does anyone have any of their music? I've got "Blowin My Mind" and would love to track down the rest of their stuff. Great music ! But tough to find. Thanks in advance!
