Tape on fingertips sux monkey though, your tips get sweaty and then the tape just slides around or comes off, only works for about 10 minutes while your warming up. As for best thing.... well besides not popping off of sharp edged crimpers? if Know!

Come on, lets here the stories and see the pictures.... not all of us were lucky enough to go climbing last weekend! -
I never said I was for the war in Kosovo, nor for our actions there. I just said it's a poor comparison. In general I'm against most wars. However, if it is decided that military action is necessary I think we should at least be honest about it and about why. In Kosovo I felt the country had a better understanding of the reasons we went. While in Iraq, it was clear 8 months in advance that Bush and Saddam were in a pissing match and Bush was just itching for justification to go in. The decision had been made, but it just couldn't be "sold" to the country in a palatable manner. While I may disagree with the actions an administration takes if they're honest and forthright the actions are at least respectable. As soon as GW started clearly fishing for reasons to sell to the public instead of coming out and stating, were going to war, and this is why, he lost my respect. And after that every decision he's made is questionable. Kosovo may have been multilateral in name only, but the consequences were insignificant compared to Iraq. Even if we did foot most of the bill and field most of the troops. What was the total loss of life both for the US and overall? Also, even if we didn't have Russian and Chinese and hence UN, approval it didn't signifcantly sour our relations with Europe. Also, I don't see our actions in Kosovo sifnificantly decreasing the safety of Americans around the world. While it seems our action in Iraq have given Islamic militants more recruiting power than ever. I really don't think that the world is safer thanks to our invading Iraq. This has nothing to do whatsoever with the difference in who was president, or "living my life" based on what others think is right. Please don't insult me. Our decisions should be based on what we feel is both best for US interests domestically and abroad, and what is morally and ethically justified or needed.

Would you prefer to live in Boise or Salt Lake?
selkirk replied to Thinker's topic in Climber's Board
Of course they're hot, they're all trying to bag husbands by the time they're 18. And the mormons are pretty bad in Boise too to tell you the truth. My wife grew up there and during college returned for the summers. At one point her coworkers dubbed her an old maid at the ripe old age of 22. -
poor example, Kosovo wasn't a unilateral action that pissed off the rest of the world. Granted Sadam was a bad guy. He killed his own people. Iraq is better off without him... and in the end is that enough justification for the war? That's the way it's being spun now but it's not why we went to war. If genocided and asshole dictators were enough to prompt unilateral invasion and nation building by the US than we've got a lot of countries to take over.

There actually is a physiological adjustment to both cold and hot temperatures. With cold though you end up increased blood flow to the extremeties so they become more resistant to a certain level of cold, as memory serves there were some medical studies done looking at people who work in fish canneries? and hav their hands immersed in cold water for long periods of time. Probably the best thing to do is just go skinny dipping in Lake Washington all winter. Should be well prepared for alpine next year Definitely don't want to do permanent damage. Slightly related but avoid doing anything with vibrating equipment in real cold weather. Theres some goofy condition that ends up causing nerve damage. (i.e. Running a jack hammer in the dead of winter in Nebraska) Forgot what it's called though.

Does anyone know when the Pro-Mountain Sports October Sale is supposed to start?

With only two people practice being able to set up the whole crevasse rescue system yourself, as well as figuring out both how to arrest a fall, and how to get an anchor in while your in the arrest position... I imagine it could be a bit tricky. Good luck and have fun!

Spilled milk? Spilled blood, lots and lots of it. And are you saying we would have been worse off with Sadam in Power? He was such a threat to us with his utter lack of WMD and deteriorating nuclear power.

sounds like the beginnings of an aid rack!

Reminds me of a Monty Python skit. Reminds of CC.com..... do we really want these jokers running the country? A least Clinton was a smooth -hound.

I don't know about anyone else but i'm a little dissapointed that Edwards did just start screaming Haliburton when Cheney walked in the room, and that I never got to see the big vein in Cheney's forehead! I feel utterly gyped!

A couple people asked why you would only be disconnected from a daisy 50% of the time in stead of 100% if the pockets blow. Depending on how you clip you either clip just stitiching which can blow out, or if your lucky you get a twist in the sling, and it ends up with an extra rap around the carabiner. makes more sense if you try it yourself though.
-
Slings all the way! Though if your slinging your own with tech-chord or spectra aren't you supposed to use a tripple fishermans? Something about those materials being extra slippery.

Two much whining not enough

It's a different type of reentry. It is heat shielded but since it's coming from a lower orbit it has less energy and hence isn't going nearly as fast. And Rutan can produce, he's just never wanted to. Unlike Boeing and Lockheed, Scaled Composites is a little less driven by the bottom line. I think in the final analysis Rutan's in it because it's a hell of a lot fun for him. And who wants to build jet liners? There's no fun in that at all! From everything I've seen he deserves the ego he has. In fact he already has a deal with Virgin to begin doing space tourism and peanuts (1 or 2 hundred thousand a ride) and I think the White Knight is actually going to be doing some of the test drops for the shuttle replacement that's being developed by DARPA. (Does anyone have a clue why it was just moved from NASA to DARPA by the way?) Kudos to him and the rest of the X-prize competitors.
-
50/50 aren't very good odds. Can change that though if you through and overhand in the last loop on the daisy where your biner is, or girth hitch the daisy to the biner. Then even if all the pockets rip your still tied in due to the knot. Either that or just get one of the metolius jobbies.

It seems the routes down there are more sustained that they are around Leavenworth, fewer ledges and easy rests, so they seem harder, even though the moves are all at the right grade. Of course there are some that stiff and and some that are soft... but isn't that why we climb? -
OMG! There are assholes on both sides? The Horror! The HORROR!!

BD nuts = stoppers, and no real need for multiple types unless your looking to double up, which can come in handy on occasion.
-
I placed one a few times on glacial ice earlier this year, and they're not quite as quick and easy as the BD Turbo-Express's. Agree with Ice climber, the bracket doesn't work that well as a crank handle to drive it in. On the upside I like the hanger design better for clipping and it will take 2 biners instead of just one.

Well, i've backpacked with my parents pooch, and honestly is a nice dog. Good with kids, I think the only thing she's ever bitten was her own tail. But she's big, hairy, loud, and friendly so I know whenever we see someone we grab her but it's to keep her from tackling you and licking you into submission. They're not all bad, but the ones that are ! Owners need to be shot.

I think the bandwidth is probably gone on the second link. It worked about 2 minutes ago but I can't get it to come up again.
