I think we need evaluate our military role and goals in general. We should think about cutting out bases, reducing our strength, etc. It's not just Iraq and Afghanistan. I am still wondering what Obama and Putin were brewing up - you know the "flexibility" after the election. I certainly don't favor pissing off Russia or attacking Iran. The question is who would Romney bring in to his cabinet. We knew who W would bring in.

Jon - we've had lower taxes before and a larger military, and Barry still manages to have a larger deficit than his predecessors. The fact is that if you raise taxes, no matter how much, the Democrats will always find a way to spend them all and then some. I'm all for cutting the budget across the board, including military. I'd support some higher taxes, but only with concomitant spending reductions. And I will not favor new taxes to fund NEW huge, costly gov't programs.
