Michael Moore I'd be surprised to hear if he weren't willing to pay his fair share to the country that's treated him so well. How much has has the French film board benefited Depardieu over the years, I wonder. Raise MM's taxes to 75% on ALL income and that fat ass would sing a different tune
-
Exactly. Which is why this whole business about 39.6% being somehow some huge victory for "fairness" is BS.

Larry Ellison, one of the richest men in America, and a card-carrying democrat has recently earned the following, according to Wikipedia: In 2005, Oracle paid Ellison a $975,000 salary, a $6,500,000 bonus, and other compensation of $955,100.[19] In 2007, Ellison earned a total compensation of $61,180,524, which included a base salary of $1,000,000, a cash bonus of $8,369,000, and options granted of $50,087,100.[20] In 2008, he earned a total compensation of $84,598,700, which included a base salary of $1,000,000, a cash bonus of $10,779,000, no stocks granted, and options granted of $71,372,700.[21] In the year ending May 31, 2009 he made $56.8 million.[22] So of 50, 60, or 70 million compensation, 1 million is in salary, and 600K of that million is now taxed at 39.6% instead of 35. LOL

Ha, right! So who exactly makes >$400K in salary anyways? I bet it's a very small chunk of folks indeed (compared to other comp) Loopholes and tax breaks. Just like the rich have -and use. And the bigger you are, the more you can (and will) afford to pay for clever people to minimize your taxes by leveraging said loopholes. It's a BIPARTISAN plan, buddy, and the Dems and Barry just signed off on it.
-
But did they? How many people making 400K a year make that all in salary, now taxable at 39.6 %? I'd bet you it is more likely they make $150K salary and 250K elsewhere, so that 4.6% increase applies to about a third of this salary, and is an increase of a whopping 1.5+%.

He has already moved to Belgium. Belgium has reasonable tax rates on the rich.

Again. Apparently, the American people loved him so much, they've reelected him to a 4th term.

enough, and see what could happen

A race you and your 5-year-plan could surely win if only more than 1% of the population would follow you!

1. Glacier Peak. Nontechnical, but fun, memorable as hell and gorgeous. 2. SEWS / Bear Hug Cracks route. I've been trying to do this climb for years but it never worked out. Took my first alpine leader fall on the 5.8 hand crack 3. Cashmere with my 11-year-old 4. Hood/Reid Headwall. Despite losing a crampon on a 55 degree traverse. 5. Dorado Needle - epic fail but good times and memories with good friends.

We watch the same movies in Canada, we watch the same TV shows in Canada, we play the same video games in Canada. Hell, a sizeable proportion of those movies and TV shows and video games are written and/or produced by Canadians, in Canada. And yet, despite spending our entire lives wallowing in exactly the same "culture" as our American brethren, we're no-where near as likely to kill one another. Guns, knives, baseball bats, hockey sticks, you name it, we just don't take up weapons against one another with anything approaching the enthusiasm of Americans. If the popular culture is responsible for the mayhem, then why isn't the mayhem rate just as high on this side of the border as on your side? Clearly there's something else going on: the "guns don't kill people - video games kill people" argument is BS. I call BS on this argument. BTW I never said video games cause people to commit these acts, however, but maintain that they certainly contribute to a GUN CULTURE, which, in its totality does seem to contribute to these mass killings. And look at the PARTICULAR game I posted a link too. I'm not talking about Space Invaders here.
-
Maybe you should rethink it you know, just for a few fucking minutes instead of your typical "I've decided everything" knee-jerk response? This is not Beowulf, it's a game designed to further gun culture and the "fun" in discharging a weapon. Then there are games that further the "fun" of shooting and killing things. (aside: there is nothing "fun" about Beowulf - probably why about 0.01% of American kids have read it compared to 99.9% who play shooter games) Nah, no effect on a person whatsoever.
-
And our culture, including video games has NOTHING to do with the problem [video:youtube]3CtNizllWfk Bet some of you have kids with this app and you don't even know it

Just about every dem harped on the Bush tax cuts ONLY affecting the wealthy in any substantive way. Now everyone is saying, woah, hold on... let's rethink reverting them all back to Clinton levels. And you damn well know it. You asked what I was saying back then - and I told you. But - if your point is that Congress went along - yep, they are to blame as well - but more so the Repubs since they were in charge. In the 2001 cuts in the Senate vote 12 Dems crossed over. The 2003 cuts were more controversial since both wars had started. It was passed by reconciliation and the Senate vote was 50-51, with VP Darth Vader breaking the tie. Only 2 Dems crossed over for that vote. I'm not going to go searching all your posts, but I bet you did the oversimplified "tax cuts for the rich" schtick plenty. The fact is, Bush's tax cuts were across the board, and they were substantive for the middle class. Now that they may be reverted, all dem rhetoric on the subject gets a bright light shone right on it. Yes I know that is painful - the truth often is. I say drive over the fiscal cliff - at least the tax increases also are bound to severe budgetary cuts across the board - and that's the most important thing right now.

e. Yeah, and what were you "saying" in 2001-2003?
-
I hope they revert to the Clinton tax levels and that they impact you personally more than you anticipate, and I hope it hurts badly.
-
You should be jumping for joy - the cliff gives you Clinton-era tax rates for ALL! You know the era of massive growth and prosperity! I actually DO think all the Bush era tax cuts should be eliminated - above and below $250k. Do the $250k now and phase in the others late given the weak economy. It was irresponsible to cut taxes and go to war at the same time. And yea, cut the military 10% - that minor trim is way overdue. Phase what in? Bush only cut taxes for the rich, remember? That's what you people were humming as your mantra for years.

Well, it is the holidays...

You and TTK were finally successful in driving him away. Fairweather still lurks here. I think he recently posted in the Austin Post thread. One post in over 10 months barely qualifies as "occasionally"
