  1. No shit. More than a few thousand of our soldiers learned that.
  2. Or not. Maybe he clearly never was a person that should own. Not much details about him in that link.

  5. so: sean penn < dennis rodman < jane fonda? I guess... I actually don't care that much. :-)
  6. Speaking of d-bags, Dennis "the Worm" sure has outdone himself... he's even outdone Sean Penn

  14. Great weather for biking to work today :-)
  15. A great trip to travel light on. We took summer bags with bivy sacks. Puffy and gloves essential though. That approach is a GRUNT - 4k of up that starts around 8.5. But it's highly varied (pine forest, mega-boulder fields, exposed ledges, water washed slabs, etc.) and nearly brush free. Can't be worse than the approach to The Mole was. :-)
  16. 10 permits a day: 6 by reservation online up to 6 months in advance; 4 as walk-ins I talked to the ranger yesterday by phone.
  17. I believe you need the lottery permit for a day climb but a different permit for the overnight. The overnight zone there allows 10 people a day. People, not parties.
  18. ah, then I can leave ice axe and pons home though! can't imagine anything could be worse than the crapcadian couloir
  19. Especially Kevbone
  20. I'm contemplating a trip down to Whitney in Sep. Is the weather typically stable and warm enough for this route in the 1st two weeks of Sept?
  21. NOAA is a great resource and the detail link will show wind speed forecasts hour by hour.
  22. With stable weather and a high freezing level a bivy sack can also work just fine in that time frame.
  23. Perhaps he feels it's wasted effort. I don't blame him. That's a shame. But I suppose that's how life would feel if you insisted everyone else was "wrong" and felt disappointment at your failure to convert them. Personally, I figure we all have our heads up our asses, so I don't let it bother me, comrade the kind of shit we all come on here and pontificate about? all you do is snipe and mock Jay is a pretty reasonable guy and the last one to just dismiss others' opinions out of hand. But hey, demonize all you want - it's easier.
  24. Perhaps he feels it's wasted effort. I don't blame him.
