  1. When I lived in Snohomish, I used to take the bus to Redmond. Cost me $7.00 a day, and that's WITH a free metro pass. Without the pass, it would have been closer to $10.00 a day. That sucks. My fair is $4.50 RT (peak) and $3.00 even RT (non-peak). Driving is $4.00 worth of gas alone.
  2. Exit 38 is better than nothing. :-) There's easy stuff at Headlight Point (or whatever it's called - on the Far Side). From left to right 5.6 through 5.8.
  3. The more I climb, the less I want to work. The more I climb the more I need to work to pay for my gear and gasoline.
  4. I took my 10 year old up Si last year. We went up to the base of the haystack and he looked up and said "please, don't make me do that". I of course said he didn't have to. Maybe next time. Good job!
  5. 4-year-olds that nap??? How do you get them to do that??? I need to know! We have a 3-year-old daughter who won't go to bed before 9:30/10:00 pm, wakes up not later than 6:30 every day, and won't take a nap. Goddamned if we know how she does it. Just be thankful your child sleeps through the night. I have a 19 month old and he still wakes up 2-6 times a night. Sometimes he wakes up every hour......ahhhhhhh! Been there, done that, 'bone. Through two of them, so that is so old hat for me. Suck it up and get on with it, Dad... How can a climber complain about an abbreviated night's sleep?
  6. No flotation needed on the approach. There were some skiers enjoying themselves - both in the basin and at Alpental (it's apparently still open). The route was snow free. There was one small snow patch on the summit, and another patch in the flat area in the trees and that was it (as far as I remember).
  7. Yes, you got it! Last year I attempted this route w/o adequately reading up on the route and didn't realize we were at the right spot at Pandora's box. We didn't think we'd need to downclimb a 60 degree cornice, so we backed down and went home empty handed. (We had a 30 m rope with us, so it would have been easy to do this section safely)
  8. Trip: The Tooth - S. Face Date: 5/26/2008 Trip Report: Today Fairweather, Mountainguy01, BundledUpSurfer, and yours truly went up Das Toof. I will add that this was after a bunch of back and forth about destination. We had settled on Whitehorse, then thought the weather too iffy, so we went for a closer outing with an easy approach. A good choice, as it turns out... We got to Alpental around 8 am and headed up, making good time to the notch on the left of Pineapple Pass. the entire approach was snow covered, with slightly mushy, well-consolidated snow. It was dry and cool out, with overcast skies (fog). The only other bit worth noting was a sketchy snow-bridge right at the notch. First you had to make 2-3 staircase moves on the edge of the bridge (with a moat below on your right - don't fall), and then step down on a thin bridge over nothing. It will not last long. We got to pineapple pass to find like 10 people ahead of us. 8 were from a group and 2 other climbers. The group was almost all beginners, and they were lowering a rope to top-rope each of like 8 followers. The group of 2 and we asked to climb in between top-roped folks from this large group. By this time the sky was partly sunny with broken clouds. Here's FW and MG01 chilling: Mountainguy01 led FW up the first pitch, and alternated pitches with him (3). I led all the pitches for BundledUpSurfer. The first pitch was a full rope-length up to the dead tree. The second pitch was mostly scrambling up to just below the catwalk. I put in maybe 2-3 pieces near the end. Mountainguy01 led the final pitch straight up since the large group was on the catwalk at the time. When I arrived the catwalk was clear and I headed up that way. KK and BUS on the summit: Other shots/mountain pron: We hung out for 30 minutes, and rapped down via double ropes. We then endured a rappelling clusterfuck of around 90 minutes while the group of 8 (or more?) rappelled two single rope rappels. It was painful and interminable. At this point the clouds were moving in. FW and BUS waiting to rappel: We finally rappeled down and had issues with pulling the rope. Another clusterfuck. It proceeded to rain giving our ropes some extra weight. A new party helped us out with the snag. We then had had enough of rappelling and decided against a rap down pineapple pass, so we recrossed the sketchy snow bridge on foot and hauled ass out of there. We wrapped the day up with pizza and beer in North Bend. Gear Notes: Ice axe, trekking poles, small alpine rack. Approach Notes: Snow from car to pass. One sketchy snow bridge at the notch.
  9. Good job! Was the steep downclimbing at Pandora's box, by any chance?
  10. does this make any sense to you? Yes, it is in English. Unlike your posts.
  11. Eat a bag of dicks you clownpunching dog felcher.
  12. And Boner's in Uranus Shouldn't I be too old for dick and fart jokes? I keep asking myself the same thing. "Hope I die before I get old". :-)
  13. And Boner's in Uranus
  14. How difficult are the routes you've used these boots on? I own Scarps Mantas, and love them, so these Scarpas are definitely something I will look at, so thanks for the tip!
  15. Well, I got a large group up Pilchuck a couple years ago - ages 5-12 mostly. The parents had the hardest time, but they were stoked on the huckleberries and occasional wild mushroom (for eating, not for tripping)... :-)
  16. In my experience 4 year olds are fine hiking uphill as long as you feed them cheetos and caprisun, and bring a summit treat.
  17. Yeah, even more hardcore than a random anklebiter with 11 posts spraying anonymously. FOAD, you little bitch. You're such a nobody doing nothing, you make a post about going on a training hike. You're too stupid to have an opinion. I canceled a climb due to the forecast, and I joined in a good-natured thread about how the meteorologists fucked up, and commented that at least I did something. Training hike? No, I don't need to train, fuckhead, I'm in shape. It was a last minute outing doing something. You on the other hand are sniping someone you don't know for no good reason. And your cumulative contribution to this site? 11 posts in spray and one lame post in another thread "check your trunk". Wow. Fuck off.
  18. That's nothing... betcha there isn't a TR from Rattlesnake Ledge on this site yet. I summited there with the dogs late this afternoon, you pansy Late this afternoon??? I hope you brought your headlamp and emergency bivy...just in case.
  19. Yeah, even more hardcore than a random anklebiter with 11 posts spraying anonymously. FOAD, you little bitch.
  20. Porter was right. Glass half full. AND I concur on the sentiment: FUCK THE METEOROLOGISTS. I went up to mailbox today... i couldn't believe the weather and laughed at my stupid pessimism (through tears - I could've been somewhere better).
