I have never climbed there and would love to. I have some time off work this week and the weather looks great. If you want to get out PM me. I also live in North Bend, so local sport or alpine is also an option. Dave

R&D newbie close call, anchors needed?
ilookeddown replied to markwebster's topic in Climber's Board
RnD was my first trad and crack MP lead. It is a great place to learn and should not be altered. -
What route were you on? How far up?
-
I have not been there this year either but I can not think of a place where the road traffic noise could be any worse.

Just thought I would so a quick search and came up with this: http://frame.windermere.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Listing.ListingDetailPopup&ListingID=33602510 -
I doubt anyone serving who read it would accept you apology. I didn’t sign up for this war/occupation but I did for the first one in ‘91. Do you feel I was an idiot for doing that and if so why? You seem to say a lot of stupid things in an attempt to get your point across. I wonder if you would have said the same if you were face to face to one of them?

Wherever you were, go back there next weekend

I have 2 dogs I love very much and would never take them to the crag. It is not an activity that a dog and owner can participate in together. Go running or hiking so you are always there with your dog and can control their actions. Taking a dog to the crag is distracting to fellow climbers. Many people are scared of dogs and others allergic. So why prevent others from having a good time? -

[TR] Mt. Stuart- Ulrich's Couloir 4/27/2008
ilookeddown replied to ilookeddown's topic in Alpine Lakes
Thanks, We wanted to stay out of the lower part b/c it is a terrain trap and tried to play it as safe as possible. The upper ½ you have no choice but things were more solid. I guess the other side has seen a ton of traffic lately. Didn’t see any sign on the south side other than an old ski track following Ingalls Creek. I am sure that will change in the next few weeks. -
[TR] Mt. Stuart- Ulrich's Couloir 4/27/2008

I think it is about 12 miles but melting out quickly. -
Trip: Mt. Stuart - Ulrich's Couloir Date: 4/27/2008 Trip Report: Kendall Stever, Aaron Benevich and I skied Ulrich’s Couloir on Mt Stuart. We used snowmobiles from where the pavement ends to about ¼ mile past the summer trail head/parking lot. From there we toured up to Long’s Pass, removed our skins and skied down to Ingalls Creek at around 4800’. We put the skins back on and made it to around 6400’ before trading the skis for crampons. Thousands of kick steps later we arrived at the summit. We didn’t encounter any major navigation issues on the way up. We did have to do a short downward traverse at one point. Looking up as we climbed it sure felt as though it wouldn’t go because of the way the route zigzagged. I felt much better once we got a clean view of the summit. The ski off the summit was a bit icy and steep but manageable. Snow conditions were just about everything from icy off the top to glop near the bottom. We did manage to let loose a few wet slides on the way down but they were not very significant. In all we made it from car to car in just less than 12 hours and some cold beer waiting. Best one I have had in awhile! Anyway here are some pictures. Yea, I know they suck. My camera setting was set wrong. The other guys might post some better ones. The route (red is up and green is down) Just after changing over to crampons A little rock Kendall on the way up Kendall just below the summit Kendall at the summit Aaron going down off the summit Aaron and Kendall Aaron and Kendall

Your question is hard to answer. What are you looking to do? Are you lift or touring? What do you consider “decent conditions”? I suggest you go to a ski shop and demo some skis and decide what works for you. It is much better than taking suggestions from people who have no idea what type/style skier you are. Don’t forget about boots. They are can be more of a factor in performance than the skis. BTW I use skis from 76 to 102 underfoot depending on the conditions. Just one ski can’t do it all, but if I were to just have one, it would be around 88.

Are you looking for winter/spring route info or just conditions?

Weather looked great. Much better than the Snoqualmie Pass death fog at times over the weekend. Glad you got some good turns in. -
Went for a tour up to Alaska Peak with Adam and came across the massive Alta Peak slide from last month. I have never see an avalanche do this much damage. It crossed the valley, covered Gold Creek and took out trees up hill on the other side of the valley. I thought I would share because it is very impressive. Adam touring across valley west side trees got smoked up hill. Slide path east side. Slide path from the summit of Alaska Peak East side of slide path with the lone tree East side of slide path Where gold creek was

getting skins on rounded symetric skis
ilookeddown replied to genepires's topic in the *freshiezone*
Back to the problem... I have done many tours with twin tips. I have no problems if the tension is adjusted correctly. If a problem occurs with or with out twin tips just use a ski strap. I always bring a few just in case. The ski shop who fit these skins f**ked up and didn’t account for the big tips (loops were too small). Straps saved the tour. I know these are on the front but it works much better in the back. BTW I no longer tour with a twin tip. -
The answer to your question depends on how hard you want to work to get to it. My last ski of the year is usually in July down south near the other Vancouver. North side of Adams 2nd weekend in July

[TR] Alpental to Granite via Kaleetan - 2/23/2008

We used your boot track up the gully. Thanks for putting it in. -
Trip: Alpental to Granite via Kaleetan - Date: 2/23/2008 Trip Report: Today Monika and I skied Kaleetan Peak and Granite Mountain. We left one car at the Granite Mt. trail head and drove up to Alpental. We left the upper lot at 10am and toured up to the col between Bryant and Chair Peak. Skied down to Upper Melakwa Lake. Put the skins back on and toured up the drainage below Kaleetan before having to boot up the gully to the south face of Kaleetan. From there we were able to tour up most of the way before taking the skis off to make it to the summit. We skied the south face of Kaleetan down to My Lake and then down across Pratt River to about 3200ft. We put the skins back on and toured over a ridge to the south at about 3750ft until we crossed Tuscohatchie creek at the same elevation. We followed the creek up to Tuscohatchie Lake. We crossed the lake and made our way up to a saddle between Cad and Denny Lakes. From there we followed the ridge up the summit of Granite Mt. We skied the West face before traversing over to the lower section on the south side. We got to the trail head at 4:40pm. Overall the snow quality was firm corn snow except the lower south side of Granite where it was just sloppy. Conditions were very solid all day. The elevation gain was around 6700ft. Our descent elevation was about 8100ft. I haven’t figured out the distance. Below Great Scott Basin on our way up Monika making her way up the gully below Kaleetan Looking down at the ski line from the summit of Kaleetan Monika skiing down from the summit of Kaleetan Kaleetan with Tuscohatchie Lake below on our way up Granite Look Out Tower on Granite with some nice guy we met

Trip: Mt. Snoqualmie - Slot Couloir Date: 2/21/2008 Trip Report: I skied the Slot Couloir on Mt. Snoqualmie today. I left the car around 1pm. There were lots of tracks down the Phantom and a few skin tracks up. One I got to the entrance it looked like there had been a few people who have skied it in the past few days. The entrance was very icy for the 30ft. The rest of the couloir was a mix of what felt like wind packed snow in the center and ice on either side. I was a challenging and fun. On the way out someone was nice enough to put up a boot track up to the west ridge and I appreciated that. The ski down the Phantom was great corn and the waterfall was very safe due to all the snow. I did manage to lose my skins somewhere between the west ridge notch and the base of the waterfall. If anyone finds them I can exchange for beer. View on the way up Looking down after the icy start Looking back up The nice boot pack I used.

Thanks to those who looked. My skins fell of my pack somewhere between notch on the west ridge of Mt. Snoqualmie and the base of the waterfall on the phantom today. If anyone finds them please let me know and we can exchange of beer or something. They are BD with the tire tread. Thanks, Dave
