  1. I sure hope it does. Although we might have to get out tomorrow instead as more precipitation is "predicted" to move in on Wed.
  2. I guess either way would work, although to do it standing would require a bit of balance. If lying, tie the stretchy cord around a fixed object and lay on the ground with your feet towards where the cord is anchored. Loop the cord around your foot or ankle and bring your knee towards your chest.
  3. I second the stretchy rubber cord. Like cman said, start slow because it really works the area. For a good stretch, get on one knee with the other leg in front of you with foot on the ground and knee at about a 90 degree angle. Stretch forward so that front knee angle gets smaller and you start to feel the pull on the front of your quad and hip flexor of the leg with knee on the ground.(hope you can picture that).
  4. Are you getting any of this precipitation that's hitting Olympia down there in Tenino?
  5. Such quick mood swings Muffy.
  6. The trailhead isn't too obvious, but it's pretty easy to find. I assume you're approaching from the Jefferson Creek side. The description in the climbers guide is pretty right on at least to the trailhead. Follow road 2401 for about 2.5 miles past Jefferson Lakes and about .2 miles past the intersection with road 100 which will be on your left. Park at a little pullout on the left side of the road before you cross Jefferson Creek at the corner where the road cuts back to the right away from the north side of Mt. Washington. I believe that there is somewhat of a pond or standing water visible from where you park on the west side of the road. One trail starts out a little brushy on the south side of the creek. I think that there might be somewhat of another trail that starts from the north side of the creek also. Either way follow a trail up the valley staying at times in open forest to avoid brushy areas. I hope this gets you started. Good luck and have fun.
  7. If you're still looking, I'm pretty sure that I saw a few pairs at The Alpine Experience in Olympia today on sale for about $100.
  8. I've been around that area in the winter but haven't done either Bretherton or Lena. Lena looked like just a plain hike up, nothing too steep. Bretherton looked like it would require a bit of scrambling but nothing too technical. There's more route info in the Climbers Guide to the Olympic Mountains. Good luck and have fun!
  9. Beautiful night last night. Perfect temps for some nice friction. Thanks for shooting that rope up virgins. Nice picture PP.
  10. So Off, what are the chances of things drying up out there by tonight?
  11. I've been there a few times. Definitely bring bikes. Rock quality is good in spots and nasty in others. There are a few good moderate routes on the back wall in addition to some good tougher routes. If you're not a fan of crowds it's a good place to be.
  12. I would absolutely love to get in on this as a highly competent noob!
  13. Yes indeed, another good night. Glad you could make it out Arlen!
  14. What's the weather looking like down there Off? There's a bit of a drizzle here in Oly.

  16. Many times when there are chains, there is one set of chains coming off of each hangar or bolt for a total of two sets of chains. Thread your rope through the bottom link in both sets of chains. Therefore if one link breaks in one of the chains, you have your redundency in the other set of chains and bolt.
  17. Fair enough, unfortunately I believe there are many unaware individuals who travel into the backcountry. These people carrying guns are what makes me nervous. You're correct that I shouldn't label these people paranoid as I have not been "in their shoes", just as you should not necessarily include me in "you folks". It is too bad that not many people have the ability to deal with situations that arise in the manner that you stated, for these folks guns are a very valuable tool. I'm not saying that I definitely have these abilities. I do believe that if confronted with this situation that my physical abilities and quick thinking would allow me to escape with my life, just as yours did when the bear charged you. Cheers to you and hopefully we will all have many more days spent safely in the wild.
  18. That's quite the assumption you make there Bug. You do bring up a good point about awareness though. In my opinion there aren't many people who have that sense to tell when they are being stalked/followed/watched. This is probably a good thing too, otherwise we would have many paranoid people hiking with gun in hand because they "think" they are being "stalked". Not to say the feeling isn't always true, just that I don't think there are that many people who are really in tune with their surroundings.
  19. I had a feeling that someone was gonna throw that back at you Greg. Thanks for the link. Although it seems that many cougar attacks would happen far too quickly to have the time to open your backpack and retrieve a gun.
  20. Doesn't sound like the gun was necessary, unless the cougar could just sense the confidence felt by the man holding it.
  21. Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week!
  22. Yikes, sprayed by Ponch, it only goes up from here. Nice work Dru, 2 bonus points fer the clever foetoe.
