  1. ...that you're aware of. http://www.avalanchecourse.com/ I was aware of this course, and the other mentioned too, and I still stand by my opinion. And I HAVE taken some of the American Level 1 and 2 courses. The Canandians just did a better job IMO. I'm not saying the American courses are bad. On a practical note, it makes sense to take a course in your region, unless you intend to ski/board/snow-mobile in the American Rockies all winter. I like some of Arcteryx's clothing better too, but I'm sure someone else here will point you to the North Face, or REI, etc, etc...
  2. Only b/c you backed your Mr. Stephen Harper...
  3. That was my point, it's not out... but the site says it should be. I'm still looing forward to it; I hope they add a lot of images!
  4. Who are the Seahawks? Do they dope like the American bicyclists?
  5. Well, if these guys are the authors of the new guide, I'm a little concerned already... This web site is outdated? Regardless, the Olympics are wonderful range, and I'm eager to see the book. I hear it will be out this spring (via the Mountaineer's Books catalogue.)
  6. I've taken a fair number of course on this subject. If you're REALLY serious, take the extended Canadian Avalanche Association courses. They last about 7-9 days if I recall. FULL DAYS, professional better than what the Americans are doing. If you’re looking for a really kick ass, intensive, and comprehensive 2-3 course, Glenn Kessler's snow safety school through www.mountainsavvy.com is a superb. I would go so far as to say, one of the best in the NW market. He's based out of Mt. Hood/Portland. I know others will argue for various other NW favorites, but Glenn is a FABULOUS instructor! Really hands on with realistic scenarios and EXCELLENT lectures. From beacons, to snow science, to planning backcountry trips. He's wants you to learn, and will challenge you to do so. And no, I’m not getting any commission.
  7. Exactly, where is the Nodder? Maybe we'll find it on page 47? OMG
  8. You're referencing something called a "brain trust" and "predictable manner." What a Nodder... OMG!
  9. Definitely worthy of cc.com Graelin status!
  10. Once I find the Nodder, I'm going for the human/dog record. With or w/o the third party timers. OMG. SAN FRANCISCO — A 20-year-old California Institute of Technology student set a new world record for solving the popular Rubik's Cube puzzle, turning the tiled brain-twister from scrambled to solved in 11.13 seconds. Leyan Lo is part of Caltech's Rubik's Cube Club, a student group that hosted the competition at the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco. Lo's record-setting time came early Saturday, among his first five tries in the preliminary rounds. The record-setting solve caught competitors and Lo himself by surprise. "It's kind of scary now that I set it, because I have two more [attempts] to go," Lo said afterward. His time of 11.13 seconds broke the previous record of 11.75 seconds, set by Frenchman Jean Pons at the Dutch Open competition last year. Still, the world record alone didn't gain Lo the overall champion's title at the event, which was determined by averaging three of five solution times in the final round. For that title, Lo went up against the teenager widely considered the fastest Rubik's Cube solver on the planet — Shotaro "Macky" Makisumi, a 15-year-old from Pasadena. Makisumi prevailed, clocking in with an average time of 14.91 seconds in the final round to take first place. Besides blindingly fast fingers and a head for memorizing algorithms used by most top competitors to solve the cube, what is Makisumi's secret? "I don't know. Faster first two layers," he surmised, referring to solving the first two layers of the cube's colored tiles before moving on to the last. For his victory, Makisumi won a Rubik's Snake puzzle, one of several variations of the basic cube which has sold more than 100 million worldwide, according to the manufacturer.
  11. Hey Gary Maybe you could Mark's thesis for him too...
  12. A combination of two undated handout photographs shows Mischief the cat before (L) and after losing weight. Mischief lost 5kg (11 lb) in nine months and won Britain's pet slimmer of the year competition in 2005. A survey of British vets and owners showed that one in three pets, or 33 percent, were considered overweight and 38 percent of pet owners said their animals put on weight over Christmas.
  13. Chuck Norris is busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest, but he has not seen The Nodder. NEVER. OMG
  14. Man Pleads No Contest to Cattle Relations Dec 23, 5:49 PM (ET) NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (AP) - A 64-year-old man has pleaded no contest to charges in Clark County Circuit Court after telling police he regularly had been using calves for sexual gratification. Harold G. Hart was placed on two years probation Thursday and ordered to have psychological counseling and an alcohol and drug abuse assessment after pleading to charges of sexual gratification with an animal and disorderly conduct. According to the criminal complaint, the family living on the farm Hart visited, installed a motion sensor because they had seen suspicious footprints and vehicle tracks. When the sensor sounded, Hart was caught leaving the barn. He later told police the farm was a routine stop, usually after bar closing or on trips to strip clubs near Marshfield or Neillsville. Hart told police he had gone to the farm at least 50 times in the last year, sometimes two to four times in a week. ---
  15. that reminds me seattle sweetie... whatever happened to that copy of bukowski?
  16. I find this equally as disturbing. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/22/nyregion/22police.html Beyond collecting information, some of the undercover officers or their associates are seen on the tape having influence on events. At a demonstration last year during the Republican National Convention, the sham arrest of a man secretly working with the police led to a bruising confrontation between officers in riot gear and bystanders.
  17. You're in big trouble now Clint!! Clint would not earn his journalism merit badge. http://www.meritbadge.com/mb/066.htm
  18. I was denied at "Pulp and Paper." But I did get "Entrepreneurship." God bless the American way. I recall seeing a few NY'ers miss the scoop.
