  1. My handlers recommend I wear my helmet all the time. Cool pictures, looks like a nice time up there!
  2. Hey anyone interested in hiking the loop going Colchuck >Prusik Pass> Rat Creek >Toketie Lake>rejoin the Snow Lake trail and out this weekend? I've never been to those lakes. Would nice also to have someone to shuttle cars with if possible. Would be just a one day trip, though I would drive up the night before and be ready to go early.
  3. I'll third that. Enjoyed reading that book. I probably have it lying about if anyone is interested.

  10. nice UI update on the Waynes World blog! Looking good man.
  11. I'd say if possible get with your brother and just climb as much as possible. Not sure where you live, but if possible and job permits, move to somewhere with mountains to climb! Climb lesser peaks than your targets. By all means go with a guide to get some training, but also get Freedom of the Hills and go over all that stuff. You'll find that just by getting out you'll start to dial in your systems and gear, finding what make sense for you. That will also get you into shape. Depending on what routes you do you're either mainly just going to need to be in good cardio shape and know how to pull each other out of a crevasse...or if your goal is more technical, well, you'll have more to learn. Also, I would (especially for cold weather gear for Alaska, etc) check the used gear sales forum here. A lot of people dream big of climbing in Alaska (Denali, etc) and buy $$$ gear, only to use it only once or sometime not at all, and they unload it for pennies on the dollar. If you only use it once in your life time, sometimes doesn't make sense to have a -20 sleeping bag. If you need something custom, I bet Feathered Friends here in Seattle could sew something up for you. http://featheredfriends.com/ Can't help you on your huge feet! Oh, and make sure your baddass Ranger brother carries more of the gear
  12. How long do you find the battery to last on the watch Kurt?
  13. hahahaha...well it is a beautiful place to scramble around in! We definitely left to go up too early, you keep looking for the right creek and don't realize how far back up in there the Warrior peaks are. They really aren't far from Constance. I think the key is just to focus on getting into the cirque first, and from there finding the right coulior is easy... Sounds like a nice time out in the hills regardless.
  14. How many of you are using tracking software? I see from at least one TR that someone is using Strava with a GPS watch. I'm just looking at this stuff because: I tried Gaia for maps on my iPhone on a recent trip to the hills and it was awesome. I also used it to mark a few points, but not for tracking because battery life + I didn't have a waterproof case for my phone at the time. The other day I went for a road bike ride here in the city and I tried out Strava for the first time and it is pretty awesome too. I really liked the features like the KOH stuff, not that I'm any good, but it is motivational and I like keeping track of things. I'm not using this stuff for navigation, except for just using Gaia in that I was using it for the maps. My only major concern with that was that my phone battery would die and I would be left without a map, so I carried a paper map too. I haven't sat down and tried to compare Strava to Gaia feature by feature. So my questions for you are: 1. What software are you using? 2. What device are you using to provide the tracking? 3. What do you like/not like about it?
  15. hey no way...blast from the past!

    Remember?

Things almost always look better in the rear view mirror and when you're selective as to what you're looking at.
