    Damn Capitalist!

Through our government is how we have opted to provide clean water ourselves, and we do so with remarkable efficiency.
  3. FW, the aw-shucks, tough-guy father figure I alluded to is Bush. You know, the guy who is President, not the guy who is hooked up with the Women's Athletic Club or whatever. By the way, wasn't that Limbaugh talking about erection fraud on the radio today?

    Bomb North Korea?

So would the terrorists Terrorists with ICBM's? You're right - showing your enemies that your defenses don't work is a smart idea. It worked in Iraq, didn't it?
  5. FW presents a smarmy suck-up to Matt, and you call this open-mindedness? Come on, FW admits that Cheney and Rumsfeld ought to be investigated for treason and/or war crimes but says he still thinks Bush is a good man -- open-mindedness is mutually exclusive to this ongoing worship of the tough-guy aw-shucks father figure.
  6. To clarify: 1. Yes, the listed Senate Republicans did not defend a proposal next month on July 14 (can't fool you); they defended said proposal on the Senate floor this month, on June 14, OK? 2. Sorry kid, for whatever its worth, I don't smoke pot. 3. There is no such thing as an unbiased link or news story. Perhaps what you really are thinking of is a link to Rush Limbaugh or Bill OReilly. But you already have all that anyway. The fact is, the story is the story -- its history now. 4. The "proposal" to grant amnesty to insurgents who are killing Americans was made NOT by Senate Republicans, but by an aide to the Iraqi Prime Minsister. It was Republican Senators who defended the proposal as a good idea. 5. While the Senators endorsed the idea of amnesty for insurgents, the Iraq official who made the proposal was summarily compelled to resign by his superiors, who apologized for the transgression. BTW, you still have not answered the question.
  7. On the Senate floor, July 14, Senate Republicans Ted Stevens, Mitch McConnell, Lamar Alexandar, John Cornyn, and Saxby Chambliss defended a proposal to give amnesty to terrorists who have killed or wounded US troops in Iraq. Now, answer the question: How personally might you take it if such an open season were declared upon you?
  8. Today it was announced that 2500 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq. Also today, Republican Senators approved of amnesty for killers of American soldiers in Iraq. Now, dear coward, how personally might you take it if such an open season were declared upon you?

  10. Breaking broken news: Karl Rove NOT to be indicted. Salt. Pepper. Hat.
  11. Breaking story: With notification that he will be indicted by a Federal Jury next week for crimes committed against the United States, Karl Rove has submitted his resignation to his boss, the President of the United States. Now, about those poll numbers...

    Bike Commuting

For carrying stuff over a bicycle commute (15 miles) I use a med-large (2500+ cu. in.) rucksack with straps long enough to allow it to hang low when riding, so that even when I’m on the hoods or in the drops it carries well back where it is out of the way but secure. I go with the rucksack instead of a messenger bag because I'm not a messenger; that is, I don’t constantly require access to the pack while in transit. Over the course of a commute, the pack pretty much just stays put and seems to do so better with two shoulder straps instead of one. Regarding use of panniers or other bike-mounted luggage vs. shoulder-carried bags, I favor a backpack because it allows me to hop on and off the bike and go with minimal delay—there is no time consumed by the process of fastening or un-fastening luggage on the bike and no second thoughts about leaving anything on the bike. I just deal with the lock and be on my way. Also, by carrying take-alongs in a rucksack rather than in bike luggage, the payload is kept off the bike and the bike stays lighter and more responsive—it's easier to heft that weight around when its hoisted over my shoulders than when its on the bike—if I want to jump a curb or pothole, the bike sails. In regard to the sweat issue, I wear an absorbent shirt and change out after a brief cool-down when I've reached my destination. Can’t speak from experience about cycle jerseys; cotton polo does it for me. Deodorant if you please. Add a sweater in Winter, or whatever. Does the trick.

    Caption Time!

  17. 33% of the country is dumb enough to still think Bush is doing a good job--obviously, some people can be incredibly stupid.
  18. Because Novak - who was involved in the scheme - says so? There's some circular logic. No, not because Novak said so, but because the federal prosecutor is not prosecuting the person who turned over on Plame, it is presumed the President is that person because he is the only person who can unilaterally declassify and reveal the protected identities of Federal agents. As President, Bush may have been singularly free to do what was done without committing a crime, but because a backstabbing snitch of treasonous character still stinks just as bad, one might presume as well that special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has been compelled to hold his nose.
  19. So the President can stab anybody in the back he wants to? Ok then...
  20. Who knows? Who knows? I don't know... because it's not knowable. -D.Rumsfeld
