  2. Hey LG It's a 25 yr old technique as far as I go. Kinda sketchy but real fast. Please find the answer under "Advanced technique." Not sure that I would share the note

    StuPiD LaWS

Don't knock the rules sometimes there fun. It used to be in wenatchee that you had to have a police escort to operate a motor driven vehicle inside the city limits. One apple blossum weekend a certain group of dirt bags showed up at the city limits and insisted that the police escort us to our camp site on the other side of town. One car every 15 min. A bunch of tourist thought we were some kind of important folk. The po po made sure that we knew we could get ticketted for ANY infraction. Monday the law was gone but it was fun for the moment.

    Tax question

I understand that there is two approaches. I am not a tax man though so I don't know all the details. One appraoch is to file your tax forms and make a payment (thiis can be a reasonable estimate) then you can file an amended return later and they will refund the overage if owed . The other is to file an extension and make a payment with coupon as if you were self employed or witholding your own taxes. The extension allows you to not file until later. Either way if you are underpayed you owe interest, if you are overpaid they don't owe you any interest
  5. Well I did a dumb thing. I twisted an ankle a couple weeks ago. Then work required a bunch of trips up a ladder early this week. I climbed the ladder but was favoring the sore ankle. It really hurt that night, now the Dr. says I traumatized the plantar fascia by improper climbing technique. It's doing better with drugs, heat and cold, and elevation. It seems odd that I would develop this injury. I'm lookin for some exercises or stretches to help after the pain is gone. Any good words out there? Thanks
  6. I havn't used them but it would seem that they would overall be heavier. I seldom use one of each size on a pitch. I use a couple around the size that averages on whatever I'm climbin. I think that you'd have to carry more gear to have enough since two are getting used at a time. Either that or I just need to learn settin pro differant .

    Home Climbing Wall

Works well if you get prepared first. Definatley wear gloves but anyone with much epoxy experience will tell ya that it gets on you anyway. A cool trick from the marine industry is white vinegar. If you use a solvent for cleanup it will drive the epoxy amines into your skin as fast as it cleans them off. The vinegar will disolve uncured epoxy without driving it into your skin. Stinky hands are better than chemical reactions Works good on tools also and way cheaper.
  9. No such luck for me. A buddy and I were on a road trip, as we passed Jack Murphy stadium in San Diego we saw some weird party. It looked a lot like a cross between a tailgate party and a food fight. They had a whole truck load of vegies they were throwin and kickin and shit. We thought it looked like fun so parked the car and started in stompin on vegies and throwin with every one else. About 15 min. later we found out that was the finale scene from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. They left us in as extras
  10. When I was in High School I dated this girl for a bit. A few months later I was at a concert and this local band Heart came on stage. I right away reckognized Ann Wilson but she never did return any more of my calls.
  11. CBS, I tend to agree with your assumption. I have maladjusted my ankles by climbing and falling, and my back from having more muscle than brains when I was young. Now my experience is much like you said. If I dehydrate then the pain increases. Usually I don't notice it right away. But One week I can spend a couple hours on a rock with no problem, the next I am real sore the day after. Joint agravation seems to be the issue, I had not specificlly looked at hydration levels. I do tend to stay well hydrated on hot sweaty days, but slack off on days that are less hot sometimes too much. Thanks for the hint, I'll pay attention to that next time around.
  12. Go with ferns idea. Some cd players are multi-scan and can play whatever. Some are not but play a few variants. Other (like most car stereos) will only accept CD-A. Either change the burn or change the stereo.
  13. S.H. Chondroitin is the "other half" of many joint maintenance products. Glucosamine is part of the cartlidge building process and is supposed to help in maintaining healthy cartilage it is extracted from shellfish. Chondroitin is part of a protein that lends the springy quality to cartilage it is extracted from either cow trachea or shark cartilage. Most of the studies I have seen that show great results with chondroitin were using the injectable product. I used both for a while and believe they work very well. The tablet form of chondroitin is dificult to absorb as it is a very large molecule, I have other medical issues that make it not so viable and so I quit taking it. The best results are from maintaining 1500mg. of Glucosamine and 1200mg. Chondroitin per day. As already mentioned several manufactures were tested a while back and many did not do so well. None of the chondroitin only products contained what was listed on the label. There were several of the glucosamine only and combination tablets that passed. There was a pretty good write up in the Oct. 2000 Nutrition Action Healthletter. You may also find some good info about the function of the chemicals at: www.cspinet.org/nah/arthritis.html If you can't get hold of the healthletter PM me and I will get a list of the ones that passed the test. They can't list the ones that failed so it only lists the good ones. It may also have changed since 2000.
  14. RB, sweet shot, I don't see any instruments in the pic, what were you rigging. I am assuming from the name that you are working Mandaly Bay. Your right about climbers riggin. I don't do that much high steel anymore. But I do know a few riggers on cc.com.
  15. Biking doesn't have to be expensive. I competed in a "Huffy Toss" a few times during a time I lived in So. Cal. Plenty of fun for minimal investment.
  16. On the subject of drivers tests we did have one that was funny in retrospect only. My youngest was a pretty good driver. After a bit of a trip we stopped off to do his test on the way home. He was a little nervous and as he was supposed to pull out he put the truck in reverse instead of forward and promptly backed up without watching where he was going. The inspector stopped the test right there and said please come back again. He walked a short distance and then came back and tells my son " by the way your dads license tabs are expired wer'e going to have to write him a ticket." I was able to get a trip permit for us to make it home. We had a laugh and decided that the trip was longer than we thought. He did great on the second try.
  17. I have been taking Glucosamine for six years to help with osteoarthritus in lower back. For the first five of those it also had chondroitin. It helped noticabley. I recently quit the chondroitin as I understand it is difficult to absorb and I have a malabsorption problem already. I don't seem to notice any change. I badley broke a foot in a fall many years ago. The glucosamine seem to help with that also. I still have that ankle get quite sore when the barometer changes quickly. Over all I would give glucosamine
  18. I took drivers ed as a summer class. about the third week there started to be several accidents and near accidents in some of the cars. The following monday they made an announcment that the girls were to refrain from halter tops and short shorts. They said it was "too distracting for adequate instruction." The accidents went down as well the eye candy.
  19. Don't worry, you will be getting up at 5am a lot , and 3am and 2am and 1am. Here's my standard tip for expectant parents. A very valuable attribute of any baby-care device is the ability to operate it with one hand. You'll end up cookin, eatin, and cleanin all with one hand and baby layin out on the other arm. It ain't a perfect workout but holdin an 8 lb curl locked off for 30 plus minutes is good for somethin. Don't let em tell ya your goin get flabby just cause you have kids. The little ones they can keep a body in pretty good shape. Just not well rested.
  20. I have to agree with Pope on just given the kid the time they deserve. As well Rumr is right on about it being worth it. I found that the munchkins slowed my time on the rocks when they were little. Stick with em tho, my kids are out and about now and they call me wanting to go climb somethin and talk or whatever. It is so worth it.
  21. Hey VB, A buddy of mine worked at this high end girls camp a while back, a week before opening they found a serious rat problem in some of the cabins. Tim says "no problem I have a #110 rat trap." So he takes some extension cords clips one end and then bares the wires and spreads them apart just a little. He hung it from the ceiling so that the wires were about 5" above the ground. Then he took a big wad of cheese and peanut butter tied it on a string and hung it so that it was about 1" above the wires. Plug in the cord and leave. He came in the next morning and found six rats flung around the room. So, he caught a little flack for bein mean but no rat problems after a day and a half. I can't see it as mean the little buggers got toasted as soon as they sniffed at the bait.
  22. dude. i dint start the fire. i dint light it but i tried to fight it. that's part of my thought too. the thread wern't headed were you started. I think most of these new "climbers" are missing a lot of what climbing is about. We may be able to fight it. We may have to sit back and laugh. You still deserve a brew for tryin.
  23. to lummox for startin a great thread on new climbers. It got me goin in several thoughts. One of those that stuck was the startin to climb thing. When I was a kid thinkin about what I wanted I had a great experience. My Mom introduced me to a friend from school. I told her that I was interested in climbin and she told me to go for it. Turns out this lady was Anore Bucknell( I think that I spelled that right) she was one of the first women to summit Denali. We had a few chats about stuff like; I could do whatever I commited to, She liked Mt Mckinley more than Denali, climbers are just a little different, and you gotta respect the environment that your in. Havn't seen her in a long time but her impact sticks around. It seems to me that most of the hardcore climbers I've met had similar experiences. Somewhere the folks that have not interacted with these people miss the heart of the sport. Who ever it is, I mean Sharma has a great respect for the rock and passes it along, but ya miss that if your whole experience is seeing a picture in some rag. Discuss or flame on about face time helping us learn.
  24. Can't say from the picture. When I was a kid and didn't know better we used to make stuff like that. We would take a garbage bag or dry cleaners bag, to the open end we would suspend a metal can lid from a couple strings. After that a couple waves and it was full of air, add some spoons full of sterno and a match. They would sail off into the sunset. We always had visions of the UFO sightings that we were creating. On the other hand it just might be men from Mars.
  25. There's some stuff that can be charged that is easy. The fire department that I was with for a while never charged for emergency calls but the bill was hefty for stupid shit (we were always called to put out slash pile burns in the summer started without a permit. It costs plenty to roll two engines and a tanker). The same with boating I havn't seen any recent reports but the coasties always rescue boaters in need. If you went outside the bar and ran out of gas, you best belive it costs plenty to send out that cutter. I'm sure a cost for bullshit calls would save hassles. I don't know who should determine when it costs. I think now the coasties only come out for life threatning stuff, if your not in dire trouble they send you off to find a private salvage guy. Doesn't quite apply here but it could be a direction to go.
