  1. Need to get a beacon and don't know where to start. So what's your favorite and why?
  2. Alright just got out here this April and last year I was recovering from a knee injury and didn't get on the snow. With the snow starting to fly in the mountains I am dying to get out around here. So here is my question. Is there any good stuff to ride right now? Have you been getting out lately? Where? And is there any of you that I can hook up with to do some riding? I am free this Sunday and weekends this winter. Oh BTW I am split rider, I know some stick people can't be seen with someone on a board.
  3. There has been a couple of situations that I have been in that were somewhat scary. The scariest was climbing an alpine route over in the South Basin in Katahdin (Maine). We got to a scrambling section of the climb and I was on top of a big chunk of rock, station wagon size. Just as I was halfway across it the whole thing started sliding downhill. Adrenaline kicked in and I jump for blueberry bushes and grabbed a hold of them and was able to stay put. The scariest part was that my wife at the time was down slope from me when this happened, luckily off to the side, somewhat. The rock ended up sliding about 10 feet and stopped. This spring on Raineer I was getting a little worried when my buddy and I got caught in a whiteout up on Liberty Cap without a tent. All night long as I shivered, I just hoped we wouldn't have to spend any longer than 3 days out there in the storm. I had figured that I had 3 days of fight in me before I would start losing the battle. The next day I got up and argued for a while with my buddy about at least making some headway off the mountain, but he was worried about the crevasses, understandbly so since we couldn't see 5 feet in front of us. As we were arguing my pad flew off over the ridge and it was decided then that we need to make some progress. Couple hours later into hike off the storm started to break. I am glad I didn't have to test my 3 day theory.
  4. Well first off this may change seeing as the season is not over, though it is getting somewhat bleak. Alpinfox can attest to that seeing as we went to climb but took our gear for a hike instead and then went 4-wheeling for the remainder of the day. It's a tie. For overall quantity it is Alpinfox, we got on a ton of stuff all over. For overall difficulty it would be mister Bobbyperu, dat boy is a machine. And for overall quality a non-ccer Jenny, we got some outstanding routes in the Alpine Lakes area. It was a good first year out here in the NW and I looking forward to many more. cheers to all my partners this year, so far.

    Vacation is over

Well after being unemployed since April and living the climbing bum lifestyle for the last several months, I am now entering the world of the working slobs. Oh well my vacation was fun while it lasted. Will be looking for partners for Tuesday and Thurday evening for some after work climbing.
  8. Well well well, I am out the door in moments with three others on board. Bring two burner coleman, that be used for some group cooking. ETA I would guess would be around 8. Can't wait to partay width y'all.
  9. Unbelieveable, a legit(?) hackers service.
  10. you're not going to argue with me because you're losing. so somebody posts a story about how dangerous guns are and you say cars are just as dangerous. i point out that cars are regulated by police so why not regulate guns the same way and you say never mind that arguement. why bother argueing with morons. I gotta jump in here. First I really don't believe people really need hand guns or some of the other weapons that you can get out there, it is completely ridiculous. At the same time I believe everybody should have the right to own one if you want. Only thing I wish is, if people misuse them or are completely irresponsible, their rights should be taken away and in this particular case. The adult that owns this gun that the 4 y.o. used should be proscuted with at least manslaughter. The kid is not responsible for the death that occured, it is the idiot that created the atmosphere for this to happen in the first place. lI1|1! the last thing I think we need more regulation, sorry I am big boy and don't need anymore big brother watching over my shoulder. All more regulation is going to do is create more bullshit, more hoops to jump through, more forms to fill out, more things to registar for, all because we want big brother to watch over our neighbors shoulder to make us feel safe. Fuck that, I am not going to feel any safer. Where do we draw the line, it is not just guns that can kill, there are all kinds of other things out there that can be used, have been used and will continue to be used to kill people. Our problem is not with guns, it is our culture. Removing guns does not change who we are. We will still be able to blow up each other, stab each other, poison each other, ect. The real problem is how do we change who we are as a society?
  11. Well Oly, I just moved here this April and this website has helped with meeting people to climb with. I would only suggest that when planning to climb with some one new, tone it down to a way comfortable level so that you can size up the person you are climbing with. I tend to drop it down several grades no matter how I meet the person. Y'know see if I get a long with the person, see what their style is, see if they are what I consider safe, all that crap.
  12. I second what Dru said. After paying for membership and for a course with the Mounties, you could spend that money for a private lesson with a guide and taylor the course to what you need versus what is offered. The only advantage I see with taking a large course is that you get to meet a whole bunch of people who are at your same level that you can put into practice what you learned with out boring your partners to death.
  13. We are all losing whether we have a Dem, Lib, or Rep in office. I have seen it spelled out a couple times in here, they are all politician's who are only worried about taking care of the people that fills their pockets. So long as we allow that to continue we won't have a government that works for the people, but one that works for the corporations. It is such a shame, that that's how things work in this country and many others for that matter.
  14. Yeah like Dru said, buy my used pulsars.
  15. In the WA Driver Guide this is what is stated in the Right of Way section. "Right-Of-Way There will be many times when you will need to slow down or stop your vehicle to allow another vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist to continue safely. Even if there are no signs or signals to regulate traffic, there are laws governing who must yield the right-of-way. The law says who must yield the right-of-way; it does not give anyone the right-of-way. You must do everything you can to prevent striking a pedestrian, on foot or in a wheelchair, or another vehicle, regardless of the circumstances. For their own safety, pedestrians should walk toward oncoming traffic and off the roadway. You should be ready to yield to pedestrians in case they step into your path. The following right-of-way rules apply at intersections: Pedestrians and bicyclists have the right-of-way at crosswalks and intersections whether the crosswalk is marked or not. Drivers must yield where necessary to avoid striking pedestrians and bicyclists who are crossing the road. Vehicles must stop if a pedestrian or bicyclist is in their half of the roadway. Vehicles must stop if a pedestrian or bicyclist is within one lane of their half of the roadway. Once the pedestrian or bicyclist is beyond one lane of their half of the roadway, the vehicles may go. Drivers crossing a sidewalk while entering or exiting a driveway, alley or parking lot must stop and yield to pedestrians. It is illegal to drive on a sidewalk except to cross it. Pedestrians using a guide dog or carrying a white cane have absolute right-of-way. Do not use your horn as it could confuse or frighten the blind pedestrian. Drivers turning left must yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians and bicyclists. Drivers entering a roundabout must yield to drivers already in the circle. At an intersection where there is no stop sign, yield sign or traffic signal, drivers must yield to vehicles in the intersection and to those coming from the right. At a four-way stop, the driver reaching the intersection first, goes first (after coming to a complete stop). If more than one vehicle arrives at the same time, the vehicle on the right goes first. Drivers entering a road from a driveway, alley, parking lot or roadside must yield to vehicles already on the main road. Drivers must not enter an intersection unless they can get through it without having to stop. You should wait until traffic ahead clears so you are not blocking the intersection. Drivers passing a vehicle going in the same direction must be ready to yield in case the other driver suddenly turns, slows down or stops. You must yield the right-of-way to trains crossing the roadway. You must yield the right-of-way to a police vehicle, fire engine, ambulance or other emergency vehicle using a siren, air horn or a red or blue flashing light. Pull over to the right edge of the road, or as near to the right as possible, and stop when you see or hear an emergency vehicle approaching from any direction. If you are in an intersection, drive through the intersection before you pull over. If the light is red, stay where you are. Follow any instructions given over the emergency vehicle's loudspeaker. You must stop for a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing whether it is on your side of the road, the opposite side of the road, or at an intersection you are approaching. You are not required to stop for a school bus with red lights flashing when the stopped school bus is traveling in the opposite direction and the roadway: - has three or more marked traffic lanes, - is separated by a median, or - is separated by a physical barrier. After the school bus red lights have stopped flashing, watch for children along the side of the road and do not proceed until they have completely left the roadway. You must yield to any transit vehicle (bus) that has signaled and is pulling back onto the roadway. "

  17. wich one??? smiff or the 11worth? As far as I know the only real Rope-up is the Smiff one. I hope the REI family weekend isn't considered a rope-up.
  18. So are you saying were different than every other nation in this world and bikes and cars can't share the road?
  19. Please, man that is such bullshit, if you really believe there are a lot of cyclist are looking for trouble, you gotta be some stupid. As well as the other way around, I don't think drivers are out there looking to cause trouble to cyclist. Grated both side have there assholes, but I would say it is a minority of the population. As for cyclist speeding up that is crap too. It appears they are speeding up just because you are slowing down. The problem there is that most drivers don't realize all other people outside of cars that includes bicycles as well have the right of way. I don't necesarrily agree with that since in an urban environment I can usually move as fast as traffic on my bike, but it is the law that most people don't recognize. There is also the flip side where there are a few cyclist that don't realize they are suppose to follow the rules of the road, which can also cause problems.
  20. This one guy I knew was trying to use a static line pull out a stump in his yard. He dug down and around the stump and cut as many of the roots he could reach. Then anchored the rope to the stump and truck. The part of the stump that he attached the rope to gave way as he was pulling and hit the top of his cab and put a huge dent in it. 6 inches lower and that dent would have been in his skull.
  21. Last pub club I attended ( see photo above; Thanks anna ) I brought 63 kegs. We managed to not quite kill one single keg of triple. Seriously: whats the best estimate of number of climbers??? How many people are you bringing to Smith?Yerself only2345more than 5 TG let's see if this will help give you an idea.
  22. Erik you meant a pony keg per person per night right?
  23. My bed for the last several months has been my crash pad. Used a nut tool for as a spoon and as a dull knife camping. Biners to open beers. Ice axe as a hammer to hang picture, a chopper to split a power bar during the winter and to open beers. Static line to tow a car to my mechanic and to haul beams in a house my dad was working on. Rope, slings and biners have been handy in the bedroom, none of that autostranglation shit though. I don't think that ones for me. Cut and old rope and made some dog leashes.
  24. I also have a coleman white gas two burner that I will be bringing.
  25. Hmm, I don't recall ever needing a permit, but maybe that is just me. the FS and their rules. As long as you are good about taking care of the land you play in.
